  • I can guarantee you that one of these hacks will be of use to you. Most everyone has electrical tape and it is dare I say the "duct tape" of the fly fishing world. I have several uses for it but these are the most useful. Full cage reels are super expensive and the first hack will keep your pocket book in check! Leave a comment below and be sure to checkout my other videos if you have some free time.

    I can see right now until I get some wading boots and socks I need to wrap my shoes and laces with electrical tape. I hate the shoelace magnet!
    Yes, I’ll be the biggest geek on the water but hey, the fish won’t care. Right now I use the black caps designed to go on the bottom of chair legs on both ends of my cork grip. Drill a hole a little smaller than the shaft, cut a slit for the hook keeper, and slide it on. This changes the shape of your grip from a 1/2 to a full well and protects your cork from shreading. Another cap goes on the butt end. This protects your reel from mud, asphalt etc.
    Thanks for posting,
    Wes

    For the reel gap. Grab your spool schmear around the spool with some light grease anything really like chapstick even. Then grab your UV resin from the tying bench. Put a drop or 2 at both sides of the gap. Use gravity to keep it from running off and then zap it with resin. Add a couple drops and cure them. Then pop the spool they'll be perfect.

    • @greenhornflyhorn
      @greenhornflyhorn  ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting. Not a fan of the grease. Sounds messy but then again, I have been known to have fumble hands at times. To each their own and thanks for sharing your way.

    • @bryceg5709
      @bryceg5709 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@greenhornflyhorn no the grease is so the UV cement doesn't stick to the reel. Call it a release agent. You grease the edge of the spool so the UV resin only sticks to the frame not the spool itself. Then once you zap the resin there is no gap

    Great video. Just found your channel and subscribed. Another use is a small piece of the tape will make it easier to find your tippet end in the reel after storage.

    Our joke around the house is any tool with electrical tape on it was my father-in-laws.
    I picked up some 300# mono yesterday. I'll try using it for tippets.. 6 inch brookies are monsters.

      Our local shop got a roll of 300# in. Jerry of Jerry's bait and tackle in Port Angeles Washington wanted me to make shrimp and crab eyes out of a foot of it. He also gave me a few feet of 80# to try. See how I worked in a plug for him internationally?

      Still holding up for me and yes I am crossing my fingers but it has dealt with a lot of steelhead, salmon, bass, pike, trout etc and still works. Maybe I got lucky, who knows but can’t complain about the clearwater thus far.
