    I was lucky enough to find an unopened and shrink-wrapped copy at Goodwill for $3! They clearly didn’t know what they had. Thanks for the video!!

    This is an elegant way to handle complex issues in war gaming when moving to the serious hex games. They did this as best as can be done to keep it simple! I wish they reprinted this game.

    Found this version at half price books for $25 today. I’m so happy right now. I thought I’d never get to play this version.

    Just found an excellent used edition of this game for $79.99! All pieces accounted for and a clean map. Thanks for your video on this one 👍

    Nice video(good job as always, I am a fan of your tutorials, nice graphics, good pacing and concise explanations).
    Just for clarification, here is
    a couple quick minor points:
    Rivers with no bridge(marked by hashmarks on a hexside), only block movement for tanks, and artillery. They could still attack across that hexside, as per example on page 14 of instruction book.
    Air combat initiative: the player who wins initiative decides which player places aircraft first.
    Air combat: Fighters are placed on the strip first, then bombers, and no hits are lost, the counting of hit numbers wraps around as in ground combat(an empty space on the aircraft strip is not counted as per Axis and Allies Battle of the Bulge FAQ, Dec 23rd, 2006).
    Hope this helps,
    Thanks Ben for your continued efforts and tutorial videos, much appreciated. Keep up the good work! Can't wait to see one for Guadalcanal(hope you didn't or don't have to pay too much for that one).

      Appreciate your feedback! I'll see if I can put notes in the video to clarify. I managed to get used copy of Guadalcanal a year or so back for $70. So there is a video in development to finish the series. Worked on it some last night as a matter of fact.

    My father never heard of the game before but loves history. So one day when we were in a cool shop with games and comics and stuff. He saw the game. He bought it for $50. I am learning how to play so I could play with him. But him and I didn't know it was this good.

    I love Axis and Allies. I was so excited for this new game (Battle of the Bulge). I've had this game for years. Based on the instruction manual, I could never could figure out how it was played.
    After this video, I give up. The printed game instructions don't line up with the ones from the video. While the video provides some insight, really it just adds more confusion.
    Selling on Ebay now.

    Good job once again man. I'd love to see you do something like triumph and tragedy OR GMT's US Civil war. You'd be doing GMT a service breaking those games down. They'd owe you a payday imo

      Thank you! Funny, that's not the first time I've heard about the complexity of GMT's US Civil War. I'll have to give it a look.

    Not a bad little game. Picked this up for a fiver at a board/rpg games show. Only 1 counter missing (which would probably never get used anyway, so no biggie).
    Demo played it and found it very hard for the allies to stop the Germans getting their victory total (probably because the Americans didn't have Guffy in this game).

    Who moves their units away from the enemy???

    • @boomtaylor8297
      @boomtaylor8297 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Many reasons:
      consolidate, example more units in a hex is stronger, such as more unit types stronger air defence.
      Make enemy move, using up his supplies so he has less to attack with.
      Moving to reinforce, losing units a few spaces away means moving to prevent enemy breakthrough or encircle as tanks can blitz two spaces.
      Rough terrain, units will want to retreat if the next move means enemy trapping them and unit that's not infantry will be destroyed with one dice instead of two.
      An attack on two fronts, enemy build up in two or three hexes and multiple attacks when strong can severely punish, so you may want to pull back where you have another friendly unit or rough terrain on flank to bottleneck enemy forces as per stacking limit in each hex.

    Hello, many thanks for your fantastic tutorial! One question about attacking mode: I launch 8 dice to hit 3 infantry. I obtain: 1,1,1,1,2,2,8,9. With my six hit, how I can associate the dice on the infantry strip? How many infantry I can remove or retire? Grazie from Italy!

    • @harsh-rules
      @harsh-rules  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it goes like this.
      1 - 6 is a hit. Your roll of 8 and 9 miss.
      You've got 6 hits.
      Assign the numbers to the units.
      4, 1 - Infantry A 1 = HIT 1 = HIT 1 = HIT 1 = HIT
      5, 2 - Infantry B 2 = HIT 2 = HIT
      6, 3 - Infantry C = NO HITS
      Infantry A receives 4 hits and is killed.
      Infantry B receives 2 hits and is killed.
      Infantry C receives no hits and lives.

      Many thanks, so I "lose" two good shots. For absurd, if I get 8 dice with the number 1, with 8 hit I destroy only 1 infantry. I do not understand why Havalon Hill used this combat method in this game.....

    Instead of this game would it make more sense for them to come out with a battle of Stalingrad a battle that actually could turn the tide of the war more men or use a more nations fight in this battle with any other battle but yet they didn’t make a game of it

    can you immediately move into a conquered hex after combat or do you have to wait until the movement phase and pay an extra supply token to move into the hex?

    • @harsh-rules
      @harsh-rules  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is clarified in the Games Online FAQ
      Q. After an attack that clears all enemy units from a hex, can the attacking units immediately
      move into the hex?
      A. No. The only movement that occurs during combat is retreating. All other movement happens during
      the Movement and Reinforcement phase.

    I have a Question? When ground combat is occurring on one hex let’s say I roll the dice and remove the dead units along with moving the retreating units, there is still enemy units I have hit on the first roll, so do I continue rolling or stop

    • @harsh-rules
      @harsh-rules  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe the answer is on page 16. After resolving the dead units and retreating units - "The initiative passes to the other player. That player now goes through steps 1-8. If that player decides not to make an
      attack, then initiative reverts back to the other player. When both players choose not to do any more attacks, ground combat is done for the turn.

    Hi, one question, in the phase of movement, if I pay one supply token and I have on infantry in a zone of control, can I move that infantry one adjacent hex but this adjacent hex is another zone of control, is that possible ?

    • @harsh-rules
      @harsh-rules  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, as long as the adjacent hex doesn't contain enemy units. "Ground units can’t move into a hex occupied by an enemy Infantry, Tank, or Artillery"
