It's up to Germany to keep Italy viable and has to do more than just send 1 fighter. Imo opinion at minimum Germany has to kill the cruiser of Gibraltar, send 2 fighters to scramble Taranto, and strafe Yugoslavia
Italy does a great job of exposing issues with global 1940. One being the near useless player experiences playing italy and anzacs. the other is airfields. planes taking off in UK to be fighting in med in ww2?
a house rule i would add if you aren’t a fan of how far planes in this game can go is to make it so that any time you go over an enemy territory with and AAA gun, it gets to fire at your planes.
The strategy most effective against me (as the Axis player) lately, is an all allies' offensive throwing everything against Japan; while UK Europe build/builds middle east for Moscow / India support. I'm curious about your Kill Italy First. Few times in my games (and I'm not that experienced), when Italy starts to do ok, it siphons off valuable resources from Germany. In most games as Italy, I find myself trying to evacuate a tank from n. Africa, sending a small army to help G against R and building infantry to defend Europe. Perhaps by a fraction of a %, I value Norway more than S. Italy. You have a very nice game setup. I appreciate the videos!
Thanks Ichabod. I like to take out Italy first because they are the easiest to take out. While you are building up your forces to take them out you force them to turtle in Rome which effectively takes them out as compliment to Germany's offence. If they don't turtle then you take them out quicker. Now you have their money and a foothold in Europe. It works best when US takes Northern Italy and UK takes Rome on the same turn because they can stack their boats in the same zone to ward off the German air and because Italy can't take back Rome if they also lose N. Italy. If you set it up right as the UK, you attack from Cairo with a second wave of troops waiting in Libya for the following turn. I have found that the game tends to even up pretty quickly now that you only have 2 countries to fight against instead of 3.
Italy has many options and opportunities and that's all nice but in Europe you may as well roll dice to decide what Germany should have and what Italy should have. Either of them can have it but neither of them need it because the other can take it. Italy has a *job* though that Germany *cannot* do for them: 1. hold the Mediterranean at all costs. 2. If you want to expand, Cairo first unless you are *very* carefully coordinated and committed to a plan a few turns deep on the division of Europe. But any wavering or lack of confidence if Italy isn't prepared to meet London or Moscow in France or the Balkans could cost a flank and the war. The simple vision for Italy is if Cairo goes down sooner then an actual defense of the coast can be accomplished which directly contributes to Holding the Mediterranean. Every other bell and whistle is all well and good but if Allied fleets capture the Mediterranean Italy's relevance is done. Allies don't *need* big landing forces to get in Coastal Bombardment rounds off of a single transport. You absolutely must over every other imagined dream prevent any Allied Battleship, Aircraft Carrier, Submarine, and Transport from entering the Mediterranean. That is Italy's purpose. Everything else is second. Even actually taking Cairo is second if your concentrated defense can be regarded as more than a "soft underbelly"
In our house rules we rarely Taranto too make the game more fun and open up africa as a real front. The navy also gives the Raj a strong force that Anzac can boost and make Japan wary of attacking you and allowing you to seize spice Islands IPCs. We modify the NOs so Italy has to take more islands and we also included Vichy France so we modify the other NOs. We use a die roll to determine the French boats
I’ve been playing around with this strategy and I really like it: I think Germany should bring 3 fighters down to defend against the Taronto raid and preserve the Italian Air Force to do some damage in North Africa and the Mediterranean
my friend and i are struggling to learn this properly thank you for the strat but could you do so rule walk throughs like the netural civs and the scrambling planse and air bases
Regardless of what happens in the Med, Italy can be extremely helpful as a ‘can opener’ on the Russian front. An early purchase of a few mobile units plus a little aircraft can help to crush Russia. Since Italy then Germany in essence have a ‘double impulse’ every round against Russia, Italy can make small attacks against Russian blockers. They get the money, then Germany can either reinforce the territory, blitz through it, or both. It’s a devastating way to not only drive deep into Russia but also keep Italy economically viable even if they’ve been kicked out of Africa.
I also find Italy difficult to play and add value with. Maybe the idea of getting Africa should be abandoned from Taranto raid? One thing your video didn't mention is that you can pretty much always take Greece I1. There's two cases: 1. if you scrambled to Taranto, then you will attack SZ97. You can amphibiously assault Greece and also hold on to your transport for I2. Your single bomber will have better things to do though. 2. If you didn't scramble or Taranto wasn't attempted you can use your Albanian force and fly planes over SZ97 to back these land forces. It will usually be sufficient but there is always a 1 in 81 chance of 4 hits by the Grecians in the first round which will cost you a plane and you won't take the territory either. Usually this force would be backed by both fighters. Is buying bombers for SBR a worthwhile idea? I guess you also need some fighters.
I attack Greece quite often too with Italy. If there's a way of getting Gibraltar too then that's another N.O. with Southern France down. Let's face it, there's no real "Grand" strategies with Italy. With competent UK play, all you can do is be Germany's lap dog. As far as SBR goes, I think it's probably a better idea to purchase ground forces to either make it more difficult to assault Rome or play can opener for Germany. You don't have enough money to afford to lose your bomber to a lucky "1". A bomber to keep the Med clear for a couple of turns longer is a good idea though.
So am I understanding your strategy correctly when I say the UK has to basically not attack your navy on the first round? Every time I've played, Italy loses 60% of it's navy before it even gets to purchase units.
You can really extend the length of Italy's navy especially if you stack gibraltar with units and Germany sends some navy to the mediterranean or builds up submarines in southern france. Italy can really become a secret beast if they're allowed to most due to the med being perfecting positioning to attack basically anywhere on the board, which is why I do very much understand the Italy first strategy for the Allies.
I played a game where Italy invaded Russia via the Black Sea. He invaded Syria as well with one tank because I had moved the French soldier to Trans Jordan to move to Egypt. I then moved that French soldier back to Syria and defeated his tank. He actually made some ground in Russia, but swiftly lost Africa and then got kicked out of Russia. He held onto Southern France really well and it took several invasions to take it back.
I played a game where the US thought they were safe off a Gibraltar. Just transports and artillery guys. They were smart enough to unload them Gibraltar. USA didn’t count on Italy buying a airbase and giving German bomber a extra space sinking all 5 transports and protecting protecting Italy from attack.
unguarded transports are always a very funny concept to see people actually use. The AI in Triple A sometimes does it and forgets that advanced bombers tech advancement + airfields mean tactical bombers can strike anywhere on the map so you can have a field day taking out 200 IPC's worth of units when they inevitably send 10 unguarded transports out into the ocean for some reason.
I played as italy and britian braught their indian fleet and UK fleet down to form one supermassive fleet to take me down... how is that working out for them, you ask? Lets just say that with the lack of pressure on germany, Moscow is now a open tile to blitz into on the following turn, and the factory has 13 damage.
It also leaves both Australia and India perfectly undefended to take from the sea. Unless good preperations are made, rushing the Med isn't great for Allies since they ignore two other huge beast Axis nations lurking and striking while they're open.
A couple things that are helpful for Italy: One, if Germany sends one submarine turn 1 to attack the British cruiser in sz 91 and win, that is one less British ship to come into the Mediterranean. Two, if Germany takes Southern France turn one and builds an aircraft carrier, a destroyer or submarine, and transport turn two, that tends to give Italy a fighting chance. The downside is it takes some pressure off the Soviet Union.
Three fighters should be scrambled, but no Italian. Germany needs to park 3 fighters in southern Italy and scramble them. Italy can't afford to lose them, but Germany can sacrifice three for clearing the Med of British warships.
@@brycec1928 This gives Italy a fighting chance, may take a few rounds to pay off, but it makes so much difference for Italy and gives them a way better punch. Germany needs to build a massive fleet off of Normandy at all costs, spending very little money on any land units the entire game. This protects Italy and Germany's entire Western/Northern front. Germany starts with enough land units to advance on Russia and pin them back to Moscow. Japan played right will force Russia to commit to the back side, and Italy will provide a land army linked with Germany to starve Russia of money until Moscow falls. This strategy has done very well for me over and over again it's almost unbeatable.

What if he skipped my fleet. Attacked the transport and destroyer off Africa, then moved everything to Gibraltar. I really need your help. I did take his cruiser because he didn’t bring up his aircraft carrier. I can send screen shots. I really need help. I feel like I’m being hated
The aircraft carrier being there off Egypt makes literal magic possible for UK in the med for A&A global. As long as the aircraft carrier survives without a hit, the fighter from london has a landing space there. I'd honestly rather house rule it into being a battleship instead, still a two hit monster but no magically appearing fighter squadrons. You can fly over AA in A&A global without having to go through an AA shot, as per the official rules. It's a very common house rule to have flyover AA still shoot even if you aren't battling in the flyover territory. It does kinda balance this issue out, but it's not an official rule.
@@queuedjar4578 It's funny cause I thought the movement was impossible and then I tested it immediately after this comment and was shocked, and now I use this route every game 😂 And yeah, me and my friends always thought you had to roll the anti air during combat moves when you fly over a space with an AA gun so when we learned that's not true, our minds were absolutely blown.

Now i was watching this video and it said you should have 4 battleships, 4 carriers and 5 subs. I am not sure and i cant seem to find an official Parts list so i would be extremely grateful if you could provide an answer to this or an official parts list.
Cheers. Your videos help a lot an i now understand carriers from your Naval Warfare video. 👍🏻😊

Hi, Where can I get the different colored dice you have that represent the hit value so I can roll everything at one?
How did you you get a one piece board??

Hey GHG, where did you get the board with the printed naval and airbases?

What if he skipped my fleet. Attacked the transport and destroyer off Africa, then moved everything to Gibraltar. I really need your help. I did take his cruiser because he didn’t bring up his aircraft carrier. I can send screen shots. I really need help. I feel like I’m being hated
This is supposed to be helpful. Taking England out of the game is how the Azis wins.
I deployed like 420!
6:20 how can that fighter can go to SZ 97 from UK with only 4 movement space?
There's an airbase on the UK territory so it's movement is increased to 5 spaces.
Italy Id very Hard and slow one to play but I swear usually if one of my freinds plays them the end up invading India or the us or some shit
My Italy has green Roundels
how the hell does that fighter from the UK reach that sea zone lmao there's no way it can. and if it does, it would have to fly over AA
I played my first G40 as Italy.
Willingly so,other players be
like why?I did a tremendous
job.The Duce would have be
proud!I was in Africa,slowly
planning to carry troops to
Stalingrad.Of course I had a
eye on those pesky Yankees.
I could'nt block Gibraltar at
that point but I had a good
counter strike.They had a
first wave of attack but not
much behind...They could
drop their GI in Italy only so
that I wipe both their Navy
and land unit off the map.
Only problem,I tought Rome,
my capital,was in the north,
with the industrial complex.
MAMA MIA !
I never played Italy 🇮🇹
Yo pg boy here not very good could you helpe out at all
