Did you talk to any college graduates you disagree with who have media training and time to prepare before you talked to them? Oh that's right, you're never gonna do that. You're a coward.
Blue-hair guy very articulate, and surprisingly rational/balanced in his POV. Honestly I had judged him on his appearance, but was pleasantly disabused of this prejudice when he spoke. We may not agree on how to 'fix' the issues of inequity, but hearing thoughtful people speak and LISTEN to others respectfully is a huge first step!
He made some good points that are frequently on my mind. If we value the individual, we also need to take into account that children do not pick the circumstances of their birth. To be able to close the racial achievement gap in education and break the cycle of generational poverty would be the best way to address issues that derive from the racism of the past. Our efforts need to be focused on this matter. Yet, these critical pedagogies currently being implemented present no solutions in terms of improving literacy rates, performance in math, etc. The focus now is on politicizing education and rendering kids unable to think critically about complex matters. It truly frustrates me.
But he did talk about the 'paradox of tolerance' meaning being tolerant to all ideas can be intolerant and infringing on freedom of expression for others. Example would be handy But that is a paradox in itself. Intolerance to achive tolerance? For ideas? Expressed thoughts? That idea wouldn't make it passed his own rule. Claiming that there are two genders is endangering people according to some so maybe Mr. Greenhair or Mrs. Yellowhair would not allow us to say that if they were in power. I am all for him expressing that idea so he can get feedback on how dangerous this has proven to be. To overcome bad ideas it is vital we hear and speak abut them. The debat on free speech feels like one big repetition.
This is the first video I’ve seen where people are rational and respectful and actually learning from each other. This is how we progress and gives my heart so much hope. Thank you

Of course you're only going to get people/students who actually think about the issue, consider facts and have some empathy for different opinions. This would have gone completely differently if it was sponsored by TPUSA ANYWHERE on the East or West coast. In Portland (for example), they would have burned the venue to the ground before letting a reasoned opinion that differs from the group think be heard.
These students are more articulate and rational than our politicians in Congress. I watch hearings all the time and they could learn something from these young people.

He will never have a conversation with anyone over 25 who has had media training and disagrees with him. He's not even a man, much less a professor. He quit his professor job because people were incredulous to him. Then later we found out he was a jerk to other faculty, university staff, and was abusive to students as well. A man would never behave that way. And you're a loser. Only losers have heroes into adulthood.
Workshops like this are heresy. They must be quashed at all cost because disagreeing with their opinion can trigger, thus making it an assault. That's how you know they're right, by virtue of the fact that you're not allowed to challenge them.
The kids that get into Barkeley that major in the social sciences (the ones that were interviewed) are skilled in taking standardised tests and parroting their teachers lectures in the exams. The kids that major in Business or Engineering at UC Berkeley don't have the time to be SJW's. I used to live in the Bay Area and knew many people who went to UC Berkeley or had kids that went there. NAU looks like a pretty good place to go to school. It's in Flagstaff, AZ which is a beautiful place.
If he were a real man, he'd have a live discussion about these issues with someone over 25 who has had media training. But he's not a real man, he a punk.

Frankly I don't think my vote is worth anything for the presidency, I did vote but the two candidates you get to vote for are so vetted by the parties and so beholden to a few elite politicians that most of the time we don't get a choice worth making. I have voted libertarian a few times because if they get enough votes they get more respect and money for next time. But I don't agree with everything the libertarian party says either. I do spend much more time studying local elections and voting knowledgably in those races and issues.
@SCOTT MILLER I don't remember who but what I look for is smaller government, more emphasis on private voluntary transaction solutions. Personally I have a problem with almost anyone who wants public office because they can only want it because they want to use force to have things they way they think they should be. There is a conceit in nearly everyone to believe that "I have thought this or that through a lot and I believe I am the one who is right". Only mature people know that others say the same thing and are diametrically opposed to what you think. Only egotists believe they are so right they should be able to pass laws to make it so. So I try to find the few that at least sort of seem to believe in the foundation of this country which is STRICTLY limited government. All rights not specifically granted to government are left with the people. And "the people" doesn't mean elected officials on behalf (a pure hoax) of "the people". Sadly in most of the discussions of the constitution the primary goals are lost in stupid details.

Yes, I think critical thinking, epistemology, and logical reasoning should be compulsory in some form for all school kids everywhere at some point in their education.
I LOVE how these debates are respectful and about the processing of IDEAS, not the obliteration of their fellow Americans. It seems that the "main" sources of media are all-too-often overtly biased and or are about bashing those they deem "opponents". This is the "United" States of America, after all. It makes my heart blue when I see sensationalized ad hominem. We all should work together. Keep up the good work!
I just encountered this scholar for the first time and I enjoy his openness to facilitating a discussion on hot button topics. Progressing the human race in the right direction.

Thank You Peter! This was most inspirational to see these young people able to express themselves without going into a liberal meltdown. This video was refreshing, young adults, with differing options, able to clearly express themselves. The video you did in Portland was a painful thing to watch. You get Extra credit on that one.
You Sir are a genius....these kids need professors like you to fully blossom in the right way. This was one of the best and most respectful debates between students with different opinions that i‘ve seen in a long time. Maybe america has a chance to become great again.
Rational and respectful conversation - thank you for monitoring this students’ talk - one of the few logical ones I’ve witnessed from a university’s in a while. These are open-minded people.
I knew the best looking girl in the room was a conservative. In my state the state government gives more money to rural schools than to schools with a higher tax base. A very good discussion with students that are thinkers and not followers of progressive dogma. To bad their was not a larger group at the event.
Conservatives adhere to traditional norms on grooming, beauty, appearance, etc. We've gotten to the point, with women especially, where you can draw with some certainty a woman's political ideology based on her looks.
Couple of things that get left out of the property tax/bad schools/generational poverty argument: 1. "Bad" schools/low property tax areas are dominated by Democrats. Considerably more students are in "generational poverty" in blue voting areas than in red ones. There's a disconnect between voting Democrat and then seeing what that vote gets you. Mostly the result of voting Democrat for these areas is, as noted, "generational poverty". 2. In almost every case of an extremely articulate "conservative", they had to overcome the odds they were born with. The first person that comes to mind is Thomas Sowell. The guy is born into an extremely poor family, his father dies shortly after being born, his mother has to raise him and his 5 siblings, the house is off a dirt road with no running water or electricity in the mid-1930s. Moves to New York (knowing almost no one) to live with his aunt because his mother cannot care for 5 kids and only by virtue of his cousin getting him a library card, did Sowell gain an understanding of the need for education. These "generational poverty" areas have zero emphasis on the need for education. Abysmal test scores, high dropout rates, little parental involvement, etc. Gangs are more prevalent than book clubs. Easier to find drugs than a calculator, etc. Of the situations I am aware of (here in Atlanta), the City of Atlanta schools spend around $20,000 per student (the highest public school expenditure per student in GA) and are rewarded with mid-tier test results in the state. For reference, the national average of a generic school system is $12,500. So you have a school system spending 55% more than the national average and routinely place in the bottom 1/3 of school systems in a state, than in and of itself, places in the bottom 1/3rd in the country. The left cannot stand accountability for a myriad of reasons. For people who routinely claim to be the arbiters of "science", there's zero application of the scientific method and specifically the Analysis/Conclusion phase. Money has little to do with educational ability and upward mobility. Ideology is incredibly more effective at lifting someone out of poverty than taking money from others at the hands of a government who cares almost nothing for accountability.
As a former teacher in inner city schools, I can add on from experience that fatherless homes are what the majority of students with behavioral issues come from. I can also tell you that I have seen in schools that students are not held appropriately accountable for their behaviors. Just one chronically misbehaving student can stop the academic learning that needs to happen.
@@proudatheist2042 Anecdotally, that is my observation as well. I worked for about 5 months in a large project home development in Atlanta back in 2006/2007. That development was completely bulldozed shortly thereafter but what I saw there will probably last my lifetime. We would have events there paid by outside sources and it was rare to see a man at any of these things. 99% women in line for food & clothing, a mass of kids outside, and zero men. And this stuff wasn't during the week with a plausible excuse of the men being at work. We'd do these during the evenings and on weekends. Fatherhood establishes, if nothing else, a hierarchy of authority and accountability. It would be interesting to see the statistics of criminals and if they had a father who lived at home. Of what I've seen, the father is almost impossible to find for most of these guys (mass shooters, career criminals, etc)
60 years of welfare and the “war on poverty” that has spent trillions of dollars in the very areas that were spoken of has produced no results whatsoever and yet the same tired arguments are trotted out with the same predictable results. This is because the stated goals of equality are not the actual, achievable reality. Instead the policies are designed to suppress success and engender dependence which creates a permanent voting block. Similar with immigration policies. Solving these issues, to the extent that’s workable, harms the ruling class.
Thanks for sharing. People like you are helping to make this world a better place (even if sometimes we get a lot of hate from activists). We don't need more censorship, we don't need more anger and identities to hold on as barriers; we need to be able to speak openly. We need to look at humans as humans, not as mere identities, not as naʐis for saying something you don't agree with. Free speech is the basis for respect.
I graduated from NAU in December of 2019 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. I was hesitant to watch this video, as I’ve seen some pretty disastrous college-campus videos. However, I was fairly surprised by not only the content but the replies. This is the first time since graduating that I’ve had a sense of pride in the school. The discussion seen in this video is very similar to any other discussion that I had in my “liberal studies” classes (I hate that we called them that, they were really just classes that exposed us to varying world views). Students were encouraged to express differing opinions, and there was never any hostility between students, at least in my classes.
Wonderful discussion. Really interesting, thoughtful views on display. The exchanges are delivered slowly and calmly and with reason. It's so refreshing to see people saying what they honestly think, and being free to do so. :-)
Mr. Blue-hair might be a good candidate for a discussion in a more long form video. He is very articulate, and while obviously a card-carrying wokester, he seems flexible enough to be able to argue his case in a sensible manner. He also seems keen to do so, which is in itself unusual. I would like to see something like that, and I hope he's not getting too much grief from his 'friends' for taking part in this.

I have a bias. NAU is such an incredibly beautiful place to attend school. Even when it's 5 degrees. All of what I saw and heard came from efforts of generosity in spirit. There were seemingly attempts for civility rather than narcissistic blather. I can sum it up for me easily under any circumstances with any topic. Good manners will never go out of style. People who are instilled with that belief have a leg up on those who were neglected.
The reason why this is great dialogue it brings people back to thinking. Not just thinking, but thinking hopefully independently thinking. No mob rules, no pressure, just pure open dialogue.
I'm very impressed with these young people's ability to rationalize the question. I did not interpret the question in the same way. I would have definitely had to move a line or two after hearing them speak on it. Bravo to these young minds. Very impressive.
This was impressive. Whether I agreed with each one of them or not is not the point. The ability to communicate without interrupting one another or without shouting out over one another, using logic rational respect and love as a baseline. First time in a long time I have watched a student body have a guest speaker where I wasn’t embarrassed for the youth of America.

Just found your channel and the questions and discussions in your videos are so refreshing. You are very good at keeping the topics unbiased and trying to get a discussion going between view points instead of the opposing views just trying to shut each other down. I’m usually not even one to enjoy getting into these kind of things because I do often find myself in the middle and in today’s age if you are in the middle you are considered the enemy to both views.
It’s nice to see younger people operating with critical thinking and still being respectful and level headed to accept and recognize other ideas. This is something that should be the absolute core of all conversation. It’s definitely gotten lost in the push for political and moral extremism… glad to see there’s still hope and some kids even though they may be different ideologically are still willing to listen to one another and attempt to find a common solution

The first student "I believe people should be able to live their lives WITHOUT any boundaries." That is precisely the issue that needs to be explained - that is not freedom that is license and they are completely different things
I'm liking this because of the thoughtful, open, and respectful sharing and exploration of thoughts that are occurring. I wish those we have in our governments could interact in such a fashion.

Wow! Thank you for everything you are doing! I love open communication! I wish every instructor at universities would apply this! In my mind you have hit a gold mine! I have a PhD and had to indure a few professors, professoring false hoods. My husband did as well! We have 3 children in college education now, we are very leary of how they approach any topic. Sadly, 1 out of 5 professors are teaching our children . To pass the class, they just have to go along with untruths. Expensive and sickening.

Distilling the conversation down beyond the specific issues and going deeper to the more fundamental issue of demonizing and categorizing those we disagree with as evil is a genius way to get us all out of this political hell.
Northern Arizona University has over 28,000 students yet it looked like there were probably less than 25 students attending this event. It just proves how uncomfortable the vast majority of college students feel about expressing their beliefs in public. Sad...
Arizona has so many amazing, diverse, and tolerant young folks. These kids views and tolerance isn't uncommon here we all get along Except it's 108 degrees today 😂
Everyone is praising them On their maturity and open mindedness. There are about a dozen people in the entire audience. These are the only 12 critical thinkers on the campus.
What's interesting about this discussion is that they all seem to be reacting to something that remains unaddressed and unspoken, and then at the end they mention political parties.

All rights not specifically granted to government are left with the people. And "the people" doesn't mean elected officials on behalf (a pure hoax) of "the people". Yes, I think critical thinking, epistemology, and logical reasoning should be compulsory in some form for all school kids everywhere at some point in their education.
The key ingredient for these conversations is the listening part. Every body paid attention to each other and there was no talking over.

I LOVE how these debates are respectful and about the processing of IDEAS, not the obliteration of their fellow Americans. It seems that the "main" sources of media are all-too-often overtly biased and or are about bashing those they deem "opponents". This is the "United" States of America, after all. It makes my heart blue when I see sensationalized ad hominem. We all should work together. Keep up the good work!

I’m always pleasantly relieved when I see discourse like this on university campus.
I knew the best looking girl in the room was a conservative. In my state the state government gives more money to rural schools than to schools with a higher tax base. A very good discussion with students that are thinkers and not followers of progressive dogma. To bad their was not a larger group at the event.
Conservatives adhere to traditional norms on grooming, beauty, appearance, etc. We've gotten to the point, with women especially, where you can draw with some certainty a woman's political ideology based on her looks.

Couple of things that get left out of the property tax/bad schools/generational poverty argument:
1. "Bad" schools/low property tax areas are dominated by Democrats. Considerably more students are in "generational poverty" in blue voting areas than in red ones. There's a disconnect between voting Democrat and then seeing what that vote gets you. Mostly the result of voting Democrat for these areas is, as noted, "generational poverty".
2. In almost every case of an extremely articulate "conservative", they had to overcome the odds they were born with. The first person that comes to mind is Thomas Sowell. The guy is born into an extremely poor family, his father dies shortly after being born, his mother has to raise him and his 5 siblings, the house is off a dirt road with no running water or electricity in the mid-1930s. Moves to New York (knowing almost no one) to live with his aunt because his mother cannot care for 5 kids and only by virtue of his cousin getting him a library card, did Sowell gain an understanding of the need for education.
These "generational poverty" areas have zero emphasis on the need for education. Abysmal test scores, high dropout rates, little parental involvement, etc. Gangs are more prevalent than book clubs. Easier to find drugs than a calculator, etc.
Of the situations I am aware of (here in Atlanta), the City of Atlanta schools spend around $20,000 per student (the highest public school expenditure per student in GA) and are rewarded with mid-tier test results in the state. For reference, the national average of a generic school system is $12,500. So you have a school system spending 55% more than the national average and routinely place in the bottom 1/3 of school systems in a state, than in and of itself, places in the bottom 1/3rd in the country.
The left cannot stand accountability for a myriad of reasons. For people who routinely claim to be the arbiters of "science", there's zero application of the scientific method and specifically the Analysis/Conclusion phase.
Money has little to do with educational ability and upward mobility. Ideology is incredibly more effective at lifting someone out of poverty than taking money from others at the hands of a government who cares almost nothing for accountability.
As a former teacher in inner city schools, I can add on from experience that fatherless homes are what the majority of students with behavioral issues come from. I can also tell you that I have seen in schools that students are not held appropriately accountable for their behaviors. Just one chronically misbehaving student can stop the academic learning that needs to happen.
@@proudatheist2042 Anecdotally, that is my observation as well. I worked for about 5 months in a large project home development in Atlanta back in 2006/2007. That development was completely bulldozed shortly thereafter but what I saw there will probably last my lifetime. We would have events there paid by outside sources and it was rare to see a man at any of these things. 99% women in line for food & clothing, a mass of kids outside, and zero men. And this stuff wasn't during the week with a plausible excuse of the men being at work. We'd do these during the evenings and on weekends. Fatherhood establishes, if nothing else, a hierarchy of authority and accountability. It would be interesting to see the statistics of criminals and if they had a father who lived at home. Of what I've seen, the father is almost impossible to find for most of these guys (mass shooters, career criminals, etc)
60 years of welfare and the “war on poverty” that has spent trillions of dollars in the very areas that were spoken of has produced no results whatsoever and yet the same tired arguments are trotted out with the same predictable results. This is because the stated goals of equality are not the actual, achievable reality. Instead the policies are designed to suppress success and engender dependence which creates a permanent voting block. Similar with immigration policies. Solving these issues, to the extent that’s workable, harms the ruling class.
Supportive family and network is more effective at lifting someone out of poverty - not ideology.

I graduated from NAU in December of 2019 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. I was hesitant to watch this video, as I’ve seen some pretty disastrous college-campus videos. However, I was fairly surprised by not only the content but the replies. This is the first time since graduating that I’ve had a sense of pride in the school. The discussion seen in this video is very similar to any other discussion that I had in my “liberal studies” classes (I hate that we called them that, they were really just classes that exposed us to varying world views). Students were encouraged to express differing opinions, and there was never any hostility between students, at least in my classes.

Mr. Blue-hair might be a good candidate for a discussion in a more long form video. He is very articulate, and while obviously a card-carrying wokester, he seems flexible enough to be able to argue his case in a sensible manner. He also seems keen to do so, which is in itself unusual. I would like to see something like that, and I hope he's not getting too much grief from his 'friends' for taking part in this.

I have a bias. NAU is such an incredibly beautiful place to attend school. Even when it's 5 degrees. All of what I saw and heard came from efforts of generosity in spirit. There were seemingly attempts for civility rather than narcissistic blather. I can sum it up for me easily under any circumstances with any topic. Good manners will never go out of style. People who are instilled with that belief have a leg up on those who were neglected.
The reason why this is great dialogue it brings people back to thinking. Not just thinking, but thinking hopefully independently thinking. No mob rules, no pressure, just pure open dialogue.
I'm very impressed with these young people's ability to rationalize the question. I did not interpret the question in the same way. I would have definitely had to move a line or two after hearing them speak on it. Bravo to these young minds. Very impressive.
This was impressive. Whether I agreed with each one of them or not is not the point. The ability to communicate without interrupting one another or without shouting out over one another, using logic rational respect and love as a baseline. First time in a long time I have watched a student body have a guest speaker where I wasn’t embarrassed for the youth of America.

Just found your channel and the questions and discussions in your videos are so refreshing. You are very good at keeping the topics unbiased and trying to get a discussion going between view points instead of the opposing views just trying to shut each other down. I’m usually not even one to enjoy getting into these kind of things because I do often find myself in the middle and in today’s age if you are in the middle you are considered the enemy to both views.
These kids were great. They had differences. They talked about them. They had the space to do so.
It’s nice to see younger people operating with critical thinking and still being respectful and level headed to accept and recognize other ideas.
This is something that should be the absolute core of all conversation. It’s definitely gotten lost in the push for political and moral extremism… glad to see there’s still hope and some kids even though they may be different ideologically are still willing to listen to one another and attempt to find a common solution

Wow! Thank you for everything you are doing! I love open communication! I wish every instructor at universities would apply this! In my mind you have hit a gold mine! I have a PhD and had to indure a few professors, professoring false hoods. My husband did as well! We have 3 children in college education now, we are very leary of how they approach any topic. Sadly, 1 out of 5 professors are teaching our children . To pass the class, they just have to go along with untruths. Expensive and sickening.
