Glad to have found this series. I'm doing the same thing with a 1970 CL350 but was planning on getting the frame powder coated. Care to comment on the trade-offs of going that direction?
@@KeepOnWrenching . Yeah; then you've got it on and i'd already commented. So it let it go. BTW what about aluminium foil, also white vinegar ? for the rust ??? :)
@@KeepOnWrenching you said you have a small air compressor. I have small tank that they use for nail guns, ect. Would that work? Where do you get the sand?
Using lacquer primer is totally the wrong thing to do. You have to use 2k urethane primer. You should go use the blaster and strip it again. That stuff you put all over the bike is soft and won't hold up at all. Especially to petroleum based stuff like gas and oil. A company called Spray Maxx makes 2k in a can if you dont have proper equipment.
@@KeepOnWrenching I have a 78 FXS Shovelhead frame that I’d like to paint strip and get as shiny as I can. Don’t know if it’s possible to get it chrome.
@@KeepOnWrenching thank you...i am 68 and it has been 10 years since i restored bikes. I just sandblasted and primered my 1979 cm400t frame. Worked out great. Thanks for the help.
Awesome, man!! That’s a huge step.
Thanks buddy restoring a 78 rm250 basket case.
Go get it!
Yo, that Wings hat is straight orange. Glad to see its been getting some use!
I became a fan when the north stars left MN. :)
@@KeepOnWrenching aren’t you Michigan based though?
I grew up in MN. Transplanted to MI.
@@KeepOnWrenching ahhh makes sense now. Hopefully they’re on the road to getting back to contender shape now that Stevie has the helm.
If they ever get to play again. Lol
I always wanted a CL. Very cool
Really enjoying it.

They didn’t come powder coated. But if you can afford it I do g hate the idea.
Respirator when spraying my friend ! :)
Sometimes I forget when I’m messing with the camera. Getting better about it. Thanks for the concern. :)

I just can’t stand that aluminum foil. It’s like nails on a chalkboard. I know it works but man it’s painful.
Nice job!
Got it done!
Great work,so amazing, but Sir you didn't give the list of materials you used,
Great video man! How many coat you put on
I poured it in pretty heavy. I think I did a mist, then 3 wet coats
@@KeepOnWrenching okay! Thanks for your feedback
Did you wipe the frame down between sandblasting and priming? I've heard small medium particles can stay on the frame and end up under the paint
For sure. I hosed it down good. It totally leaves residue.
Surely you would wipe it down anyway with a panel wipe before priming?
Dude your like shoenice with good habits lol
Not sure what you mean but thanks!
Is it possible to dry ice instead of sandblast?
Didn’t even know that was a thing!
Very cool! I'd like to give the outside sandblaster a try. 👍
do those sand blast tanks increase pressure ( as apose to going direct from compressor?)
Nope. Just more storage as far as I know.
@@KeepOnWrenching correct...
I dont know if you said, but what type of media did you use?
I’ve had the best result with fine blasting material. It’s a coal slag I believe.
@@KeepOnWrenching you said you have a small air compressor. I have small tank that they use for nail guns, ect. Would that work? Where do you get the sand?
air compressor litar 50 litar 100
you air compressor litar 50
It got the job done. Required a lot of patience.

2K for sure. I’m using it pretty much exclusively now.
What If you wanted to leave it raw and then chrome it?
I suppose you could. If you leave it bare you should clear coat it tho.

I’m sure some would do it for you. Can’t hurt to ask. Never seen that done before.
@@KeepOnWrenching yea me neither. Thanks for the info. 👍
What was the name of the website where you found the repro frame stickers?
Kz900.com
how much media did you use?
I’d say you can you probably do an entire bike with 2, 50 lbs bags.
what did you use for blast and how much needed??
Fine coal slag. I think it was about 2.5 bags. Got it at tractor supply store.
