Golak is obviously a Star Wars counterpart for The Raj or somewhere in 19th-century South Asia such as India, Pakistan, or Iran. Heck, the way the Inquisitor shows a lot of contempt for Golak to the point of being in utter disbelief that a Jedi would ever be on the planet, even as he is dying by her hand, can be an allusion to how, in real life, the rest of the world sometimes treats places like India as unimportant.
The citizens have a very Hindu vibe, the Inquisitor with his peacock theme is far more Mughal/Islamic. Trains are by default British, the crew is Indian so its kind of a mix of 19th century India themes
Considering India's experience with an Empire, it makes sense that they would do a great job with a Star Wars story. I really loved the music and esthetic of this one. That Inquisitor was so well done!
This one could easily be incorporated the canon especially since the animation style is so similar and the older woman could be someone who is part of the path like Cere.
This is by far my favorite episode of this season. Like The Elder in the last season it felt more Star Wars than most while being absolutely beautiful and heart warming along with being absolutely badass.
I loved this short, the integration of the Indian cultural influences was so creative. I especially loved how that was incorporated into the clothing and environment designs. The music was a huge plus too
Holy cow, this animation is incredible. A lot of Indian characters in stories are depicted with those kinds of mustaches; the Pandavas, Kauravas, Ravan, etc.
Absolutely. I hope to see the planet of Golak and this small sect of Force-sensitives, Force-users, and/or Jedi Padawans show up in official SW content, esp. The Mandoverse (inc. The Bad Batch). Honestly, all 8 of these episodes are totally canon, in my head...they perfectly fit....and, both sadly and comfortingly, these vignettes are better written, imagined, and realized SW stories than TOO MUCH of what Disney/Lucasfilm Ltd. has been giving Us, over the last 10 years. It seems, when outside studios are playing within the SW sandbox, true magic happens.
@@jacktheflash8478 In the sense that We've been getting Star Wars content that seems overly concerned with things that have nothing much to do with The SWU, and seem more related to contemporary social politics on Earth, rather than the themes of a galaxy far, far away. When I watch both Seasons of SW: Visions, I see just the kind of essence of imaginative storytelling that George Lucas intended for his fictional universe. Kennedy & Co. seem to have hired creatives, and greenlit projects, to spend their time painting rather obvious reflections of 21st Century America.
I noticed the Clone Wars/Bad Batch art style as well. It made me wonder if they recreated the character models perfectly from scratch or if Lucasfilm Animation shared assets with 88 Pictures?
My favourite episode of the season. With the animation style, story, and general feel of it, it could basically have been a canon episode of post-Order 66 Clone Wars or Bad Batch. And I think the Inquisitor was supposed to be a Chiss, like Thrawn. He had the red eyes too.
With how shallow the throat slice was, it makes me wonder if the Old Master was a Jedi Shadow. That is some percision cutting, and i can see a Jedi spy/assassin making small cuts like that to kill their enemies to miniize their presence.
Im not super into this type of animation style in specific, But I love that this storie seems so grounded, so normal day life.... is great to have an ambient that feel like home jejej Cheers Mate!
My very first thought was “Firefly!” Then a recognition of the Indian connection. I’ve been waiting to see the guys review it. I’m enjoying this season much more than last season. I’m not really into animation (not my art form), and I didn’t really understand all the stories. While I completely appreciate the generosity in letting creators do their own thing with Star Wars lore, I guess I just don’t have the proper mindset to let go and enjoy stories that didn’t seem to get (my narrow prospective) important parts of Star Wars. This season seems to have more connection. And some are a punch in the gut. This was one of the ones that really got to me. The Inquisitor was one of the most terrifying I’ve seen. And the idea that there are Jedi and Force users in corners of the galaxy we’ve never seen was actually a hopeful message. Also, The Hole - which is not an animation style I really like - hit me more than most Star Wars with the casual cruelty of the Empire.
My favourite this season!😍 I cried at the ending as it was a beautiful story, made me proud to be Indian (in origin) too. 😭 The music super epic too… loved it all ♥️ So happy you both enjoyed it 🥰
You guys should watch the Making of features for these shorts, under the Extras tab. Interviews with each studio running 8-10 min each. Some even show location shots of their country for reference. This short shows some of their concept art, which you may have to pause on, for character and creature designs. Season 1 also has these too.
Again you two gave the best reaction viewing. This episode and Sith were my top favorite. The animation style, the strong Indian cultural stylization of this world and the importance of family made it a wonderful story set in the Star Wars universe. I have say the jinn inquisitor was awesome.
I agree with Bendu, a lot of these episodes have the same theme. At the end, the main character has to go alone with the Master as their new Apprentice. Being a Jedi/Sith sounds so lonely. But I think it's a great prompt, as well as getting some mom energy into these stories.
Idk if anyone noticed but that part right here 12:17-12:20 might have been inspired by the fight between ahsoka and maul in season 7 of clone wars. The shot looks insanely similar. th-cam.com/video/wwhjsKqJ-Uc/w-d-xo.html 2:28-2:31
I didn’t like the first part of the episode, but the last part was awesome, it even made me shed some tears because I have a boy and girl who are very close and around the same age. This season is very focused on family relationships and it is having very emotional moments. Greetings for you guys, you are awesome!!!
Haven’t seen anyone else catch it but the fight was literally taken exactly from Ahsoka vs Maul in Season 7 of Clone Wars. The exact same moves and camera shots, I’ve watched Ahsoka vs Maul so many times
Hi started watching this channel couple weeks ago love it watched Al vader comics am now trying see star wars series but can't find 1 to 6 number 7 will of tarkin first in the series a can find anyone know where first 6 is
Yeah this was a rough one for me. Beautifully acted and drawn with a great speculative narrative in an interesting setting. But precocious child endangering everyone around them despite knowing they are in danger is like my most hated trope. ESPECIALLY when paired with they were RIGHT to do so. So like 90% liked and 10% absolutely hated. It's why I also disliked the previous episode with the water.
You’re not. I find it very annoying when children characters make stupid decisions and don’t get any kind of pushback or criticism because they’re kids.
It has a great lightsaber duel but for me i didn't enjoyed it very much, the story takes me out of the Star Wars storytelling after several episodes that i could easily see them hapening in this universe.
There is a fine line between cute and annoying and they really passed it... I couldn't stand the girl acting like that, putting them in danger so much. They should have made her a lot younger for this to work. Also, Star Wars is all about burrowing from Earth cultures but you should combine stuff, not make it all India... even the villain? Anyway, this and the race one are my least favorite
@@Golfballtauchen Hmm, how exactly is the Republic "western"? You need to explain that a little more... The democratic aspect of it? Or what? That's not really "western" is it?? The whole world has a parliamentary system these days. And the Republic is more like a federation of states, you know like India today?... Anyway, my issue was that the world in this episode didn't feel alien to me, it was just like a folk tale with some lightsabers. So, what I'm saying is that it didn't bother me that it was a "different race/culture" as you put it, quite the opposite, it felt too familiar.
I love the Inquisitor in this episode. Such a great design. Love how the folklore and culture is mixed in so well. Love it.
Agreed!
The mix of Star Wars with the Indian aesthetic is such a natural fit I'm amazed it hasn't been done before.

The fight choreography was phenomenal. This episode is probably in my top 3 but all of these episodes have been amazing.
The end makes me think of the Path from the Kenobi series. This is another episode where I can just believe that it exists in the main canon.

Probably acquired the tech from them lucasfilm but it does seem like it's unique character models.
Definitely reused from TCW and the stormtrooper speeder is from rebels
@@Darth_Nycta_13 how does it seem like that?
Definately shows the force is everywhere in every planet and culture.
This episode doesn't get the love it deserves. It's so great!
Love how any culture can insert itself into Star Wars so easily. Anything could be in this universe and never feel out of place.

This was my favorite one of all of the Visions BY FAAAAR! Everything was on point!
The Jedi slashing the Inquisitor across the throat was so bad ass.
SO many aliens, i love it. also, the animation style. glad you two appreciated this one as much as I did.
Nearly all of them were aliens

This may have edged it's way into my top five animated lightsaber fights.
It's literally a copy of maul vs ahsoka
This episode is the freshest SW from Disney era. And also so classic
I like how this episode resembles the Cline Wars art style
Season 2 has been amazing so far
I’m really loving this season of Visions ! Watching with you as a fan adds to the excitement

It was so trippy seeing the Clone Wars/Bad Batch art style recontextualized in this Bollywood-esque action short. Hats off to 88 Pictures.
Loved this episode. Such an emotional ending, having to say goodbye, let her go for a better life. Top 3 for the season.

That Inquisitor looked like a Jinn.
