Ushoran going full Game of Thrones on the soulblights is... Surprisingly on brand for someone like Ushoran.
    Didn't expect it one bit

I love how ushoran is depicted as crazy, but not stiupid. People often forget that those two things aren't necessarily connected, especially if madness was caused by traumatic experience instead of some inborn disability.
It also shows that the delusion has a capacity to adapt to the situation at hand, and doesn't necessarily impede correct judgement in cases of self interest. Just changes the logic behind the actions

to add onto this, in the Dawnbringer Chronicles on warhammer community (specifically XVI- the summercourt & XXI- the red river), we also see Gormayne's perspective on the matter, at least partially.
Gormayne was aware of Sekhar's plot, and aided it because in his more lucid moments he's still faithful to Nagash (as he sees him as the "Ultimate Avatar of Unstinting Law". he'd been helping out sekhar up until the events of the book since doing so aided the other mortarchs, and thus by extension Nagash.
In the next article he's featured in we see him after the events covering up his actions (and it's pretty obvious that Ushoran is fully aware of Gormayne's involvement). It also shows how the delusion has affected the court- The dawnbringers were vile betrayers who struck while breaking bread, but were aided by the vile Nulahmians, who clearly were the co-conspirators... though Ushoran redirects the delusion by stating that the sigmarites were clearly not in their right minds, and that to cure them he must get them to sup from a healing spring (a nearby river that Ushoran taints with his blood, which then infected a nearby settlement called Naithwaite's Crossing)

The Plural Pronoun (probably) isn't madness (at least not wholly). When a person uses plural terms for themself, it's called "the Royal We" or "the Majestic Plural" and old fangled kings/queens would use it. I suspect it's use here is to indicate that Ushoran is very old and stuck in the past, like using an archaic dialect or words no one uses anymore.

pluralis rex - the king speaks for the entire kingdom

I really like this twist because he is, after all, the Mortarch of Delusion. But not just his own - it includes the delusion of those who think they can predict and control him. A delusion shattered when it’s all too late.

Just wanted to say it highly noted by gormane that the ushereon is quickly prone to sudden changes in his madness.
also i kinda love gormane charecter, the man is forever trap in a web of madness, yet he has a level of loyalty to his mortach and what more, he is intelligent enough to plan and form strategies, i guess that why usheroen keep him around due to the judge unique ability to be aware.
Also yeah dont underestimated the courts... a group of vampires thought they could use are noble knights as shock troops, until the noble knights develop a taste for soulblight blood.

I think Ushoran had total knowledge of the drawing of blood - he acknowledged being used in this way. It wasnt coincidence the fleet that took the blood to cities ports were accompanied under direction of Ushoran to have ghoul crew - Also he knows roughly where his blood went.
Also Goremayne is torn - he wants Ushoran to be the Regal Leader and champion of old, but the delusions and actions he sees arent helping this. which is why IMO he sides with Sekhra and his devotion to nagash.
I think his attitude may change as he was going to try to prevent Nagash from being shot with a callout to the Vargulf Courtier to attack shooter, but was stopped by Ushoran with a "carrion call" in his mind and a look from Ushoran. This i think is going to be the catalsyt going forward for a realisation by Gormayne that maybe Ushoran is going to be the courtly champion he desires, and hopefully IMO tears his main loyalty from NAgash to Ushoran.
I think Ushoran is effecting the delusion more so than the Delusion is affecting him.

To the surprise of no one, Manfred is a rat bastard, and somehow it damages everyone else more than himself.
Love your coverage of these books btw, it’s fun!

So Neferata is my Girl. One of my, if not my absolute, favorite characters in the setting. I'll admit though, the Mad King did some respectable work there.

It is fun to see that the Flesh-Eaters do have the capacity to make plays in the grander game of the setting. Before, their madness seemed to preclude them from interacting on that level and at best they would just go from place to place for random reasons causing problems and maybe here and there they would cause bigger problems by chance. But now, we know that the Courts can plot and scheme with the best of them.

The model for Ushorin looks awesome. If I were to pick something other than destruction to collect it would definitely be the death factions. Particularly the flesh eater courts. I would probably be a strigoi if I were a vampire in the warhammer universe.

That’s great. Crazy doesn’t mean stupid! And I’d love it if they elaborated upon what exactly happened to him at the realm’s edge when he initially went insane (Tzeentch? New outer godsesque figures?) because it almost sounds like he’s not merely suffering from dissociative identity disorder but a part of some sort of dark perversion of the same sort of soul hive that Alarielle and the Everqueens had going (if that’s still a thing) and you’ve gotta wonder if parts of him are warring against his own plots (again, Tzeentch? 🤭) or if there’s some dominate personality in charge of the others.
This idea of soul hives is my favorite concept in fiction (and essentially the premise of the main character’s family in Dune) so knowing that’s how it’s working just made my favorite Sigmar faction even better. This also has maddd beauty and the beast vibes with the rose themed monstrous prince and I’m here for it.

And actually the reason why this mind-shattered snd multi-consciousness body archetype intrigues me so much is because I’m also into Alan Watts lectures, mindfulness and meditation and eastern philosophy where they have you search for a “self” only to prove to you that there is none. Codified self identity is almost like this reinforced hypnotism we do to each other, when in reality there is nothing concrete at the basis of consciousness, but habit and repetition give the illusion of such. We can really be or do anything. Method actors kind of get this, but are also prone to losing themselves in their roles. And a mind-shattered Ushoran approaches this too, and it makes sense that he encountered this dark wisdom at the edge of reality.
