Catch Fish at Canvey Island: HOLEHAVEN CREEK

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 15 ธ.ค. 2024
- The first of a series on beach fishing at Canvey Island in Essex (UK). This video documents three daytime sessions in March, fishing flood tides, on different parts of Holehaven Creek (recorded on 04.03.21, 22.03.21 and 30.03.21). The 'scratching' techniques and rigs used are covered for each session, which turned out to be very difficult, but typical for this time of the year.

Happy days Michael keep them coming buddy
Thanks for that. Need to try and fish more locally soon.
Thanks for all the great videos you've made , all the best.
Nice of you to say so Brain.
Lovely location Rod, Great content as always. Kind regards Mike. Norfolk. 🎣🎣
Many thanks again Mike!
Well your perseverance paid off again...no blanks! Excellent video but that last session really kept me on the edge of my seat...felt sure you were going to end up getting wet! Glad you didn't. I see your next video is about fishing at Thorpe Bay. Can't wait for that. As a matter of interest I went trout fishing on 6 April to Chigboro Fisheries. Had 2 takes but didn't hook up, had 2 hook ups that threw the hook as I was close to landing them and caught, and returned, 8 to fight another day. A good day all round - even the weather was OK apart for a flurry of snow - although I did manage to lose 5 or 6 flies in the ruddy tree to my right! Cheers. Ken
Thanks Ken and well done at Chigboro - its years since I've fished there as well.
@@rodsangleuk6283 You should return and give it a go. Cheers.
Hi Rod lovely venue to fish from I should give it a try I enjoyed your video, thanks for that mate all, the best👍
You should have a go - it will get better and thanks for commenting again.
Nice video as always Rods, your perserverance to try to catch is unreal...you really do derserve some big specimen fish for all your hardwork...Well here's hoping.
Stay safe.
Many thanks again @gazellis1961. Hoping to be able to target some better fish once travel restrictions are lifted.
Hi, rods nice to see you back making us excellent content as always... Still bit slow at the mo, but still nice to get out there en have a bash.... Look forward to the next video... Stay safe mick en as always gets the thumbs up from me buddy 👍👍👍👌👌👌
Many thanks Andy - its slow in a lot of areas, but should pick up soon and hopefully I'll be off to find some plaice soon.
Another good video Rod you will be able to travel further afield
Thanks Mark - that's the plan; although I still have plenty of local marks to cover!
Nice video Rod
I'm sure the fishing will get better now summer is on the way look forward to your next trip, stay safe 😀👍
I hope so too - larger bass should turn up at Canvey marks soon. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Terrific. Nice one Rod. 😁👍🍀🐟
Thanks a lot 👍
You ever done east tilbury?.
You got the old bata sewers, coal House Fort bottle Beach, a little bit further past coal House the cow patch.
Keep the videos coming 👍
Yes Danny - I have fished the broken glass beach a few times in the past and had schoolies, flounders and eels. I need to go there soon, since I haven't fished Coalhouse Fort for some years. Its a very long walk to the 'cow patch' - I've done it a few times, but not with any gear yet! Thanks for watching and triggering ideas.
Very good as usual, and you have proved you can walk on water at last. Takes more skill to catch small fish ! Look forward to more action.
Haha - thanks Anthony.
I must be a expert then😂
Great video again Rod. You fish some interesting marks. Thanks.
Thanks Tony - I'm trying to cover all of the venues I've fished.
thanks rods fished it yesterday 2 small bass i flounder again thanks for coming to the island buddy tight lines buddy
Well done Michael - nice to see a few flounders showing.
Those two spots were just upmthe road from where i lived when i was at school, used to fish there in the summer with a bass rod. Had some great days on schoolies. Got to be careful on that groyne though, only takes a halfndecent sized ship to go past near high tide and you'll get washed stright off of it. Used to get hairy when the oil tankers were in and out of Coryton Oil Refinery 😂😂
Yes - a bit risky on a big tide and at high tide on that groyne.
The conscientious Angler.
Many thanks for that Bonnie.
Another vid from my local patch so this is essential viewing for me, I think you worked hard for the fish you caught in this video, I've fished Holehaven a few times in the past & found it hard to get through the crabs, so I feel your pain with this venue!! Nice to see you had a flounder out of there, it's worrying how scarce they are these days, I bet you can't wait to travel to some other areas!! Great work as usual & it shows persistence reaps rewards eventually!
P.S-I found a dead smoothound at the foot of the steps shown in this vid a couple of years ago, a precursor maybe to the fantastic run of smoothies along this coast in 2020, they're maybe a possibility at the end of the jetty later in the year?
Thanks Paul - I've recently had flounders from Thorpe Bay, which is encouraging. The lads fishing at Holehaven Point said that they caught smoothounds from there last year - so may be worth a go; however there seems to be a lot fewer crabs about at present, which I think are needed to draw the smoothies in, even if many were caught on ragworm.
Great video as always Rod, I last fished that mark on the 30/12/20, I had 3 flounder 2 of which were 30cm+ and the misses had her first fish which was a small schoolie
Good stuff - a few flounders seem to be showing now on our side of the river. Thanks for watching and your report Dan.
Caught my best Thames codling off that stone jetty, then a beer in the pub after. Top film.
Nice one Derek - the black jetty used to be a great go to mark for local codling and I used to do well there catching soles.
another good video. enjoyed it
Many thanks for that.
@@rodsangleuk6283 have you ever watched one of mine?
Once again 10/10 .
Many thanks Mike.
Nice video and I'm excited for the Woolwich video you said you will make at 1:12. I actually prefer the videos from these more less fished marks rather than the well-known beaches most anglers go to
Thanks @AndaBoss - might be sometime away!
Good work Rod. Will you be coming back to fish in the Southampton area after lockdown?
Hope to - still have marks I'd like to cover; but there are plenty of other areas I can't wait to get back to as well! Thanks for watching and commenting.
Another place a few hundred yards east is “ the drop”. You need to give it a go there
Yes, I need to get round to fishing Scar's Elbow sometime. Thanks for watching.
@@rodsangleuk6283 make sure it’s low tide though. I trust you know the drop
Fished there since the 1960s , used to be a lot more fish then, but it’s good to trot a float along there with the bait about a foot off the mud
Yes - thanks for that suggestion - I had that in mind for the warmer months.
The black jetty Jesus i used to night fish that place bloody dangerous
Yes was a great venue fished it for years before the stairwell got cut away 4 and 5 pound codling from there and very good size flounders what a great venue if you wanted to get away from the beaches!!!
It was probably the most reliable mark in my local area. I have chatted to anglers that got on and fished it last year and caught a good few decent rays.
@@rodsangleuk6283 you still can fish it but need to take your own ladder and take ladder where your fishing cause i know someone who took there own ladder and it wernt there when they went to come home and had to wait a few hours in the dark for someone to bring them one to get down!!!
@@rodsangleuk6283 hi rod where could i go weekend to have good chance of catching a plaice?
Just back from my first session for months, went to South Fambridge..........blank😳but it was so nice to be out, so didnt mind🎣
Good attempt - keep trying and you'll eventually get something decent. Thanks for watching and your report Chris.
Are those flounder edible ?
Some do eat them, but I find they don't have much taste when, say compared with plaice and soles. Thanks for watching Kenneth.
Is it legal,?
To fish there? Yes - no issues.
That schooly bass is worth a thousand whiting👍😁
Haha - personal choice I suppose. I'd rather catch flat fish!
Why is that it's only school bass that we catch in the Thames and Medway estuaries? The big ones must be somewhere. I gave up fishing in Rainham (Kent) as five or six inch bass is all we catch by the bucket full
Been fishing there for 57 years now.
Any really good sessions?
@@rodsangleuk6283 many. It’s not as good as it once was. However the bigger fish are where you least expect them.
Essex mud fishing
Indeed! Not done any of that for a while and have plenty of Canvey marks still to cover. Thanks for watching.
