Kudos to Museum Replicas for sending two swords knowing full well that one is just for destruction and that Shad and Tyranth will be giving a critical eye to it.
I liked Tyranth's descriptions of how the blade performed. And it was neat to see Shad's comments on his own performance about striking too far down on the blade, or edge alignment. The sword is lovely and it was wonderful to see it's performance. (Swords quake in existential dread when they see Shad and Tyranth in full protective gear)
the handle feels skinny because you're bare handed. But people wore thick gloves when doing things like riding horses and handling swords, the glove gives a lot of material mass in between your hand and the handle which makes up for the difference between that handle and for example a common hammer. You should get some thick gardening gloves or something and try it out.
@@saphyrepyre For a long time ,, most of my life, I never wore work gloves even when recommended or required. The sword that Tyranth prefers: in the Pauline Baynes illustrated version of Prince Caspian, the arming swords they duel with look exactly like that sword.
I appreciate the review. Two minor quibbles: First: Wear hand protection! It's not just a good idea for safety while testing swords to destruction, but is also good practice so you're always exercising with the sword while wearing the kind of gear you would generally wear while doing other combat activities. Secondly: You habitually rotate your torso too far, reaching forward past your off hand. That's a particularly bad habit when fighting sword and shield. It suggests that you're in the habit of reaching a bit too far with your attacks. You can get away with that when the style you practice uses lighter weapons, but with more substantial weapons, you need to train yourself to fight in a bit tighter with your opponent.
Goes to show you have good days, bad days, and days where you have something new. Just out of curiosity Shad and Tyranth would you be interested in making a top 10 best sword fights in cinema and maybe a top 10 battlefield tactics. You should compare the sword fights to Adorea Olomouc's Knight of Hope. Because it is cinematic fantasy it would be the Gold Standard with camera angles, gear, and fighting... Even if thugs aren't that brave.
I'd love to see you review the cold steel zweihander. It is in a similar price range to the hanshu claymore and around the same size. I'd love to see if those old marketing videos of it slicing open the pig carcass are accurate.

The sword isn’t meant to be used bare handed, or two handed, I imagine it’s a backup weapon for a warring knight, so most likely paired with a shield and armor(including the hands). The sword would sit better in ur hand with a layer or two being worn

Hey Shad, I got a question, which may be worthy of a video. In a situation, (history or fantasy) where one has used a sword in combat, perhaps getting dirt and/or blood on it. How long can one go before doing blade maintenance, without the blade decaying? Imagine for instance a scout, ended up in a battle, and has to flee back to his army while being chased, thereby having no time to clean and maintain the blade for an extended period of time. How long could his blade endure in such a situation?
