Your video reminds me of my instructor telling us to practice slow turns balance like you and not to be ashamed to go on an empty parking lot and practice, you will drop your bike !!😂
Bret Tkacs has a couple nice videos on doing those tight lock to lock U-turns. There’s a way to get started and get a feel for it that he demonstrates really well and I’ve copied it exactly to mostly positive results lol
Solid advice, great presentation, good humour, more please. Learned similar concepts at Jimmy Lewis course, always good for a different take and a refresher. Balance is key.
One thing to note is that balancing a 1250 GS is much easier than balancing a 750 GS. The center of gravity of the boxer engine equipped bikes is much lower.
glad I found your page my friend!! I commute my Triumph Rally Pro into and out of seattle as well! Super glad to have found someone who's also loving the ADV bike. No better state for it!
I often set up a Gras track for my daughters (8/11) and while they are riding I like to practice things like full lock turns, balance skills and other basic slow speed stuff. Its a great opportunity.
Thanks, you are so right about just doing lock to lock figure eights, it's sad sometimes when I ride with friends and they have to make a sharp u-turn they need to do it in 3 point way. These skills relate to high speed riding too. Lots of trails riders became good road racers.
Good video, thanks for these drills. I’m a competitive mountain biker and can do trackstands on my mtn bike for basically as long as I want… but I’m really struggling with this on my Scrambler XE. Not sure if it’s just the weight difference between the two, but I certainly need lots more practice on the motorbike.
Awesome drills there. I try to go to the local elementary school and use their parking lot for some of the pavement drills and U-turns. I’ve also got a little tripod set up with my iPhone to see how good or bad I look lol. Actually I surprise myself Just because we want to try and master our little Motorcycle universe right. Thanks again and I’m going to check the other videos too cheers!
Nice! You can also practice these balance drills in your garage/driveway by throwing a used tire on the ground and rolling your front tire into it. I made it into my 5-10 minute balance practice each night even if I didn't get out to the trails.
Been riding over fifty years. When I look back, the one thing that used to impede my riding skill development? Cracked plastic and paint $cratches. Still is, but it used to too . . .
Ugh, slow tight turns are my worst enemy on my current sportbike. I struggle so much on this bike for some reason compared to others, and I feel like I just lose more confidence in that area. So I know I need to try and practice drills to get over it. Maybe this will be my New Years resolution.
When YOUR bike is stationary and balanced you can feel how much leeway you have to lean the bike before it becomes unmanageable. When you're riding slowly you'll know how critical it is to find the exact balance. Just try it.
The biggest challenges for filming Dusty videos are finding time in his busy schedule AND the 1000 miles of travel it takes to meet up. Wish we had a sponsor :)
Ah, yes - the ballance game... Used to do it all the time : stop the bike and the engine, ballance the bike while moving one foot to the other peg as the foot from that peg went to the front axle then foot of the first goes to the other bide of the front axle. You ARE holding the front brake, aren't you - Now there should be a foot on both side of the front axle. Shift the first foot to its opposite peg , move the second foot to the other side of the front axle - foot of the first movement to its proper peg and foot of the front axle to its proper peg. Now stab the kick starter lever, put it in gear and proceed down the trail. Without a dab. That was on a '70s Bultaco trials bike. When it and I were both "new". I'll be 80 next year. Still have the Bultaco - so the unspoken question is - - - By the way, You have a very interesting regimen too. Different machines, different approach - obviously. Powering down the trail with a big smile.

2:40 That is incredible balance! Thank you for this!
Right on!
Thank you for posting bro...making the terror of falling off become the fun of staying upright!!
Great vid. Glad to see y’all up and running vids again!
More to come!
You’re right, I need to practice these full lock turns more often. Thanks for the video & tips.

IRL Tire guy has a series of beginner balance and control videos. He does the best job showing how to improve balance and slow speed control.

I love practicing this stuff. Just haven't mastered it yet. But very satisfying. Thanks for the useful video
Great Video. Thank you. I love doing these drills. Often practice them. You gave me a few new ones to add to my list.

Great video, I will have to try some of these. Thank you for posting.
Thanks. This video was helpful to this old man on a TransAlp.
I’m 74, I just love riding off road here in WNC.
Wauw! Truly inspiring, very well deliverd, fun and confronting. And leading by example. I'm going to find minutes before and after commute.
Love the mindset in this video

Amazing balancing skills u have. I cannot even imagine getting such skills, very very difficult. I ride adventure bike too, 800 cc.
Great video, thank you for the reminder on the important skills that are overlooked.
Such an inspiring tutorial! I'm looking for a classic Tenere and for sure that will be my first thing - practice practise pratcise! :) Cheers man!
Shenanigans! Way to go, dude. Great demo of what's possible...bent my universe.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow great exercises 👍 doing balance at edge of big drop off 😮very impressive 👍 yes more practice needed by me 👍 cheers Karl in Oz 😊
That was amazing! Thank you, Dr. Balance!
Más videos como éste compañero que ayudan mucho. A seguir 💪

I think this is one of the most useful videos i’ve seen… perfect for someone like me who is just starting out into enduro riding! Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
The only drill I'm interested in practicing is the helmet to flat cap transition.
Actually this was like one of Bret’s videos right h
Good idea to start the ride with a few full-lock turns. Sort of warms you up. Thanks, Günter/Nürnberg
Good reminder to practice this on the regular!
Absolutely!
Just add ly and drop two redundant words, it’s easier
@@ronanrogers4127 Thanks for the unsolicited grammar advice. I typed it that way intentionally to add a little personality.
Great video. More from Gerty!
Noice! Missed you in Idaho. Next time. Rock on 🤘
Really great advice, thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!

outstanding performance. and excellent balance

Beemer balance!
Well done music man.
Great video!!
Nice job!
Good stuff cheers
Hello, great video, in which mode you do wheelie?
I got up to 30 seconds using a brick to block the front tire (Honda CRF300L), then I was immediately humbled when I tried it on concrete. LOL
Track stands are easier if you can dig the front tire into a little dirt.
@@MOTOTREK so I'm learning. Thanks for the helpful vids. Being 51 and starting a trail riding hobby has been interesting!
Great Video! 🙂👌
Have you been a Ballet Dancer? 😄

Great video, lots of good info. Have a you had any trouble with the 1250 ? Thanks for sharing. Cheers
I'm gonna eat so much dirt, thanks!
You forgot to tell that the bike has to be on a downhill to be able to stand stable on it. Nice video!
As a Brit, I am thoroughly envious of the plethora of trails you have over there......🤔
What tires are you running how do they run on hwy also?
I live in Seattle too! Where did you shoot this? This looks like a nice place to practice
Capitol State Forest. Come on down!
Some wheely tips !!
Was that hawk sound during the track stand real or post production? 😂
Post :)
@@MOTOTREK nice touch!!
hell yeah
Hey I'm down in Kent WA. Where was this video taken? I'd like to see it for myself! Looks beautiful.

What tires are you running BB?
What boots are they please?
✌
Cool.
Hello is there a difference between find tha balance then do the balance?

I need to practice track standing. Would be a Boss Move to not touch the ground through an entire stop light cycle.
Where is this video shot?
:D looks easy .. but I don't trust myself enough :'D
I am seeing some dirt naps in the future 😂
Hey I'm in seattle too. Im having trouble finding good trails i can ride nearby. Any recommendations?
All the good dirt is at least an hour out of town. There's Tahuya near Belfair, or Capitol Forest near Olympia, or into the Cascade foothills.
One of the best videos I've seen in a long while.
The 1250 balances best in a Starbucks parking lot. Jk. I appreciate edu videos and try to find the zen center. See ya out there.
I do U-turns to get to the mailbox every day instead of a T-turn.
He is Luke Skywalker's cousin...

Where is Dusty?
Out leading rides and doing classes. He’s a fantastic teacher!
Miss Him, hope he will back soon on Chanel. They both will give us nice content. 🎉

Hey Gerty i heard what happened i hope you well be ok
Thanks. Now that you've shown what you can do, maybe it would be useful if you taught too.
Maybe start here?

I don't want to meet this guy in a slow race challenge.
ok. you gonna roll over the steep at right side of you....))aahhaha
Im not that tall i can only tip toe mine 😂
This video would be more convincing if you'd do these on a top heavy adv bike
Start with a small dirt bike, not a behemoth like a 1250GS..
2:36 ...............!)

I swear, if I see one more demonstration of "you can hold the bike up with 1 finger"... we get it! That's how literally everything works
Great video!
