In a very twisted way, and this may be reaching, everyone's suffering is Byleth's fault.
Three Hopes/Shez does more in a few months what Byleth couldn't do in five years:
-Help El oust the TWSITD from the Empire
-Expose Cornelia and Dimitri's uncle as the true masterminds behind the Duscur Tragedy
-Save Monica
And it didn't even matter what house they chose, these events still happen. They all still have a better chance for all of them to be saved. (The early trailers showed Dimitri and Claude working together when they never did in Houses)
This all happened because El was able to implant Jeritza as a professor, and Byleth was never appointed by an obsessed Rhea.
That's even more horrifying: it's not that you can't save everyone, you're the reason why everyone can't be saved.

I don't think they have a better chance to save everyone. Unlike Three Houses where all the classmates had the chance to get to know each other enough to consider the horrors of war and how they were backed into a wall, in Shez' timeline, they spent like the first few months and then the school closed. Nobody knows nobody anymore which causes much more misunderstandings and the students are much more willing to kill for their country than reminiscence on the old times.
In fact, it is still possible for the ones who were supposed to die, to still die in this timeline. Has no one ever thought Shez could kill Jeralt? His goal is revenge to Byleth for killing his/her group of mercenaries. Just like how Rodrigue could die too even if he's playable. Probably the only thing that changes is that the three nations are piting each other out of their own will with no involvement from the Agarthans and less from the Church.

A bit of far reaching yes, specially considering that Shez does not have really that much of an influence on what happens or what the lords do (outside of giving them an extra push for victory because of protagonist immunity). Finding Monica was actually an unexpected part of Edelgard's plan to get the ball rolling, and Rufus's insurrection and the attack on the Aliance by Almyra are obviously events outside of Shez's control. All of these events lead to each class to abandon their studies and thus the academy closes its doors for the year, and then the rest is just due to happen eventually. The only plot-point were Shez may be relevant is when Epimenides makes a move and traps the lords in Zahras, therefore allowing them to cooperate and understand each other for once if they had been allowed to negotiate.
That being said, I actually believe Byleth would have benefited a lot by having Shez to pose a conflict that could allow them more insight on TWSITD and ultimately finding better ways to deal with them and allowing the war to end a bit more harmlessly. I think that a Three Houses's pre-time skip ark with a Three Hopes post-time skip ark, Byleth getting back their role as a protagonist with Shez as a rival and eventual coprotagonist would be the closest approach for a "golden route".

In Three Hopes, characters die and/or suffer even if Byleth isn't involved. For example:
- In Scarlet Blaze Ingrid and Sylvain die no matter what you do.
- In Azure Moon Ferdinand and Hubert disappear without a trace, leaving their fates unknown, Edelgard gets mind raped by Thales and has the mind of a twelve-year-old at the end.
- In Golden Wildfire it's even possible for *Claude* himself to die.

Seriously, I know a golden route would devalue the routes we already have I’ve been wondering how a golden route of Three Houses could go and a non canon route with all characters available but it doesn’t end in perfect peace would make sense for it. Like it starts out similar to White clouds but Edelgard gets her secret found out earlier and Dimitri finds out about TWSITD sooner and their connection to Duscur so the two of them team up (and Claude is there I guess?) to stomp the EDM rats but because of their war, it all ends in tragedy when Fodlan gets to a point where it can’t survive the damages, so Byleth needs to pulse back to the start and has to forget everything just so some of the students could survive would have been a really fun yet heartbreaking route. We could even have saving Shez be the catalyst for the story so we could have them as a playable character.
