    I was very active in the North Adams
    FFA chapter. Glen Ruder was our teacher, great man. Did Dementation
    Team for 2 years. Sold ton of oranges, grape fruit ect. Garden seeds also. Life member of the FFA Alumni. Between FFA and working for Howard Laser I got the bug .
    Wish I could have farmed. Oh well.

Easy on us controlled pour drill guys 😂 have a lot of updates that sure help them do a way better job than the original Deere design. You probably have heard of Needham Ag lot of good products. Past FFA local Vice President,still help the two local chapters buy putting out there bean and corn ground. Thanks much sir!!

    Everytime you change blades you should change seed tube protectors, and check your depth gauge mustache the bolts will wear so you have to take them off and take the bolt off, also check slop in your row units, pick them up and see how much play they have in them side to side

    I 100% agree about the FFA being a great organization. I open enrolled to another HS school to have Ag classes & FFA. An interesting story you may enjoy. My Senior year in HS I was on the ballot for Ohio FFA State Officer at our State Convention. That year we had some State Officers from Michigan visiting our Convention. I started talking to one of the Michigan State Officers. As we talked we learned that we knew each other as little girls. We took Dance lessons together from Miss Vickie near Munson, MI (recital was in Waldron). It was a great time to catch up with her. Then a few years later I worked with her Grandfather when I was a Sales & research intern for The Andersons when they had several Farm Centers in NW OH & Southern MI including Munson (now Wilbur Ellis).

    Bean planter have its own Hyd. valves powered by the PowerBeyond outlet? I don't understand why you couldn't use Hyd. outlets on tractor to unfold planter.

    • @BorderViewFarms

      Fold functions are all controlled through 1 SCV. It raises and lowers the planter, runs the CCS fan, folds the wings, and raises/lowers the rear rank. All controlled with electric solenoid valves that need that box.

    Bearing in mind I'm from the UK and we don't enjoy suitable weather to grow soya beans I am not convinced about the argument about row width issues (compared to using an air drill for this purpose) as discussed by yourself. I can understand the points you made about planting depth details to get even seed depth. no seed bounce, seed coverage etc.
    I assume that there must be plenty of heavy evidence to support your views but when one stops to consider the capital investment and maintenance costs of the specialist drill to plant beans there has to be a solid return on your investment - this has to be a lot of extra tons of beans.
    In addition how is this crop fertilized - broadcast or placement?

    • @BorderViewFarms
      @BorderViewFarms  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They are worn and have already been flipped. The thing about that wear is that you just set it a notch deeper, and it doesn't affect anything.

    • @BorderViewFarms
      @BorderViewFarms  ปีที่แล้ว

    I confused, some people plant on 30" rows and get 70 t0 80 bu/ac. And then there are some who plant 15" rows and get the same yield but spend twice as much seed increasing cost. So in my eyes you would lose in profit with the 15" rows. Help me understand this please.

    • @jeramy2398
      @jeramy2398 ปีที่แล้ว

      Usually plant same population (amount of seeds) biggest difference is closer rows the sooner plant canopies out to cover ground which stops weed growth and helps ground from drying out for moisture retention.

    • @agger838
      @agger838 ปีที่แล้ว

      Seed population stays the same. Just more iron cost. But you gain weed control and easier to harvest at the very least

    • @BorderViewFarms
      @BorderViewFarms  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Going to narrower rows does not double the seed cost. Planting population stays roughly the same. Plants are spread out more in narrower rows.
