    I have the i7 version of this laptop. I love it when it actually works properly. I had several issues out of the box. After over 14 infuriating hour/s long calls to Dell technical support and a couple repair services, I think it works correctly now. These were the issues.
    Burnt out charge light, glitchy track pad, shaky replacement track pad, sleep wake issues while closed, unreliable boot cycles, random shut down or log outs, disconnecting thunderbolt ports, random heat moments while sleeping, monitor connection issues, finger print reader issues, and a few other things that slip my mind.

    I just don't understand how you can give such a glowing review. I've had this laptop for a little over 6 months. As a teacher, I need it to work during my lectures. Unfortunately, it has problems connecting with an Epson projector. Also, the touchpad often fails requiring a restart, and the screen often freezes requiring turning the display off and on. I really miss my cheap thin and light $700 Lenovo Yoga! Never any issues

  • @KeithLedig
    @KeithLedig 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Glad you're having better luck than me. I fixed the trackpad and replaced a missing screw on cpu fan, but persisting issue is with sound. There's a distortion, best way is to increase volume using sound in task bar. The system sound generated is very distorted, all sound is affected. I had 2 technicians come out, replaced speakers, sound card, motherboard. Problem persists. Sent to Dell service in Texas. Replaced speakers but didn't test because the problem persists. Waiting on 3rd tech to come out today. Was on the phone for hours, loaded sound drivers countless times. Reinstalled windows. Ran Ubuntu 20.04 and problem persists. Dell refuses to replace unit but they can't fix it. Dell xps 15 9500 core is 4k. 5 months later and I'm totally disgusted.

    Hi Gary, I really like the sleek design of the laptop, and you were one of many reasons I decided to purchase the Dell XPS 9500; however, I am sad to say that mine came with many problems. First of all, the trackpad issue was very annoying, and I was sad that it started to wobble after exactly one month of use (couldn't return it then). Secondly, the computer would heat up out of nowhere, loud fans and high temperatures, just from having 5 chrome tabs opened and nothing else. I only use a handful of apps, and none were opened. Sometimes, just by closing the lid and putting it in my backpack would cause the laptop to heat up inside, and when I tried taking it out, the chasis felt like I left it on a stove, piping hot! Thirdly and finally, my most recent problem was having the laptop stuck on the Dell logo indefinitely. Waited hours for it to boot up, but it would stay on the logo for absolutely no reason. Couldn't boot into windows. Nothing worked. I will be sending it back for mail-in repairs, but I am truly disappointed to have these issues with such a new and prestine laptop like the Dell XPS 9500 that costs so much...

      @kennysu3736 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@PrescottWatson may be true, but regardless, it kept on having problems. I contacted Dell support and had 2 different technicians come to replace some parts. The XPS would still have problems turning on and turning off all of the sudden. They agreed to dispatch a replacement, but they were offering me another line (Precision 7750) which is no where near as modern-looking as the XPS 9500... I requested a different replacement, but it's been nearly a week with no answers from the representative... Hoping for the best

    Thanks for the long term review I was going to ask you if you did that sort of thing, particularly on the XPS 15. I've been dithering around as to whether to buy the XPS 15 or XPS 17. I'd like the 17 but the 15 seems a bit more practical with weight being a factor. However, for a laugh, I weighed a couple of my really ancient laptops, a Dell XPS m1330 (2008) and a Dell Inspiron 9400 (2006), my last 17" laptop, and they came in at 1.8Kg, 3lb 15.5oz, for the m1330 and 3.5Kg, 7lb 11.5oz, for the 9400. I'm never, ever, going to complain about the weight of current laptops again. PS: Would you have kept the XPS 17 if it hadn't had issues? I'm still tempted by it.

    I only had problems with the 9500. Trackpad, wifi card, pro support and just crap customer service. Tip: do not get pro support. You get treated the same as normal support and don't feel more special. As they say, if a company brings a new litteration to a product, wait a year. The first year they only have problems.

      Depends on the balance between power and portability. If power comes first, XPS 17 hands down, specially with the RTX 2060 MaxQ. If portability comes first, XPS 15.

    My favorite laptop is still the 16" MacBook Pro. It is a near perfect all rounder. Buuuut, I have also really enjoyed XPS 15 9570 I had before the Mac and the new design on the current XPS looks about 5 years newer than the Mac. If I had to buy a windows laptop for some reason, my money would still go to the XPS 17 with the FHD display.

    As a creator, I saw your and others positive review on the XPS 15. Hence I bought my XPS 15 9500 last November, due to Covid, it only arrived 7 weeks later. Found out on Day 1 it got incredibly hot and produced a loud high pitched noise. This was all before I started heavy rendering or heavy Adobe Apps action.
    Felt it wasn't worth exchanging for a new XPS 15, and just requested for a return (which took another 4 weeks)
    Hope you guys had a better time with it

    This might help people out that are looking to buy the dell xps 15 9500.
    I bought the xps 15 9500 on 27th Dec 2020 but i only received it on 28th Jan 2021. It arrived from china. Seems to be a delay but i didn't mind waiting.
    Before i start one thing really bugs me is the quality of the webcam. I didn't see any reviews on the webcam before i bought the laptop. The webcam is really qutie grainy and my 10 year old dell xps laptop is 100 times better in webcam quality. I did not expect this from a top of the range laptop. When i researched this further, i found out that the bad quality is due dell choosing a bottom of the barrel sensor for the camera and becuase the camera has to fit in the very small bezel. Some suggestions were to buy a seperate web camera which made a huge difference. Personally, i don't want to go through the hassle of returning the laptop for the webcam so if i intend to use it alot, i will probably buy a webcam to plug in via usb. However i am very disappointed at the webcam quality (0.9MP max) for such an expensive lapotp.
    I bought mine in silver i7 16gb 1tb, and the trackpad issue of it being loose is not there. I am happy i went for the matt screen and not the UHD screen. It does get a little warm on the left hand side of the laptop if im using it for a long period.
    The trackpad sometimes doesn't register my right click, not sure why. When i try clicking in the bottom right corner of the trackpad it sometimes doesnt register it, it's intermittent but it seems to have gone away now since i started using the laptop more. If the issue persists i will update this comment.
    Other than that the laptop has been great and the sound quality is great to.
    Hopefully this will help someone.
