Very good video, I am now mentally prepared to do my first back lapping today! Thanks for all the tips! I picked up a 5 blade push 17" mclane a few days ago, been reel mow with a scotts 20" everyday all season at 1.5 inch, I had also picked up a very old 20" mclane at the begining of the season but shortly relailzed my lawn had a long ways to go first and though moved a few times with it, the motor needs alot of work, I have not put both mclanes side by side yet, but dreaming of merging them into a 20" 7 blade push. :))

You are so lucky to be in an area that offers used McLanes. I have to go a State over to even see one. I hope your back lapping went well. Happy to report that I committed to a renovation this year. You will have a front row seat to more of my fails. lol Cheers!

Very nice! My Fiskars has a similar chain drive system, and what I did was purchase a large socket (can't remember the size off the top of my head) that fits perfectly over the sprocket- which works great when paired to my drill. That McLane is a nice mower! Wish I had one.

I did the same for my fiskars but could not find a socket large enough for the McLane. I will keep looking, cheers!

Definitely the Mclane. The cut under 1” is unbelievable for a manual reel mower. Fiskars is great for mowing above 1.5”.
