DUDE!!! You totally remind me of ME! Every time I try to save a few dollars I end up screwing stuff up and it costs me more than if I had just bought whatever I was trying to save money on.

You need your own home improvement show. I’d watch it just for the entertainment alone 😂😂

It did suck, maybe my fault as I let the motor get pretty gummed up with saw dust and debris. I might be able to get a Chinese replacement motor off Amazon for cheap. Thanks for the sub.

I was thinking of doing the same thing! Thanks for showing and explaining the do's and don'ts of the project. I recently picked up a similar McClane with a 5hp Honda motor on it for $75 at an estate sale. I got the overpriced roller you spoke of just because the mower was so cheap. I was hesitant because the damn roller costs twice what I paid for the mower, but I caved.

I complain about the roller but it is a machined piece of metal with sealed bearing and mounting hardware. I imagine if McLane sold it it would be closer to $300 than $200. $75 seems like a steal, you don’t see these mowers up for sale where I am so I was happy to get mine. The alternative would have been a used Toro greensmaster for $1500CAD which is hard to justify when I just want to get my feet wet with reel mowing.

Your mower looks just like the one that came with our house….13yrs ago. My daughter just put in a Bermuda lawn at her house. Based on the size difference in our yards, I’ll be spending 1/4 of my time on my own lawn and 3/4 on hers…ain’t retirement grand???
