- Poker pro Jimmy Fricke gives advice for beginning players who are just getting started playing the lowest stakes of limit hold'em, such as $3-$6 and $4-$8, in this poker strategy video on Card Player TV.
Poker is a sport and Jimmy is an athlete.
sandinmycrack 8 years ago but that made me lol😝😝
it made me laugh as well in 2023
seems like a really friendly and helpful person
This is some of the best information you'll get about small stakes limit hold-em.
So the best advice he gives is to chip up as soon as you possibly can, where a significant profit is achievable at a much lower EV rate. I played 3/6 at the casino this weekend, and it was utter child's play. It wasn't so much that the players were bad (although they were) as it was an unprofitable situation for nearly everyone at the table. With rakes that significant, probably only one player in six left with profits. I made a modest haul of $50 in about 20 hrs of play. I'll try 6/12 next time
Looking at this guy, he definitely don't play small steaks :D
Terrific advice from jimmy. I need to change things up and go back to cash games starting with 3-6, 4-8 limit.
Good advice --and oh so true...I play the 3-6 and the 4-8 tables to me it is just a fun thing to do once every couple of months or so...I win some and lose some ,but was told the stakes are raised in the evening when the pros show up..
I think he is still on tilt from the guy who check called 3 streets with a set of aces
He's partially correct. I disagree with him about not being able to beat a 4x8 game. I see people beat that game everyday, myself included. Not everyone at the low limit games are clueless. There are sharks at every table.
Did you miss the part about the rake? Over 100,000 hands, the rake will eat your win rate, perhaps, all the way. Unless you have rakeback, or you're a prop, he isn't sure if the game is beatable with a $5 drop every hand, not to mention tips. Anyone can beat any game 1 time, or even over a long short run.... but that doesn't mean the game is profitable... even for good players.
no, you don't beat that game.
The game I used to play was with a full kill and it was very beatable. I've since moved on to higher stakes though.
Jeffrey G
perhaps possible then imo
I think it's beatable as well. The low skill level at the table more than makes up for the high rake
This was really well put by mr Fickle! Thank you for the video!
Been beating 4. 8 for years 150 to 200 most of the time a long session for me is 4 hrs not bad i don't think
Nope
In 4-8, what I like to do as small blind or big blind, is to build a huge pot by raising pre-flop with anything decent, if 7 or more players are already in the hand. Also be aggressive at the flop. If you’re on a draw, that might buy you a free card on the turn, or at least prevent a turn raise, if the turn card doesn’t complete your draw.
this guy gave good advice!
Never look at your cards and never stop raising. Order doubles and always tip the cocktail waitress
I think the issue is sticking to what we consider is the way we should be playing poker.
Good info!!
Sure you could make money playing 3/6 if your opponents are very bad (which they probably will be), but when the rake is 10% and you're tipping about another 5%, you'd have to earn about $1.17 on your wagered dollar just to break even (to say nothing of the white chips that you're using to tip the waitress). Playing with something better than a 1.17 expected value ratio is hard to do even against the worst of players. To earn $5/hr, you'd probably need to play at 1.40 EV on your wagers.
Damn...if Jimmy says the rake makes it impossible to win at low limit, then I guess it is. All this time I thought my suspicions were simply justifying my shitty play. I mean they still are, but not to the degree I thought.
What are some ways to keep from being perceived as informational betting?
he seems cool
I dug it.
He was saying u can't beat a 4-8 game that's got a 5 dollar min. rake per hand which is really high... that's 50 bucks a round on a full game.... that's a lot of money being removed from the table...
the 5$ rake is from the pot, not each player like an ante. So he's saying if your stealing the blinds, which is where you make a lot of your money, they will be a total of 6$-(2$ small/4$ big)..but the rake is 5$, so you're blind money is 1$. The only way to make money is to have action on every hand.
+jonthemagician666 The rake in most casinos I play is 10% of the pot up to $5 per hand. I have been in 3-6 limit where the pot reached over $115 and the rake was only $5.
its pretty ironic that Jimmy is basically playing micros/lw limits himself now!
by looking at the thumbnail I thought this was some new trailer for some harry potter movie, rofl!
the video image is too poor, you need to fix it more
gorgeous xx
I love. 8/16. 36 48 sucks
There are way too many haters on his appearance. They pay to man because he is excellent player, not because he looks good in a Abercrombe Catalog.
friendly!
@MrJonny128 dont say that, hes a good guy
is fricke as sucessfull limit player?
This dude doesn't give a shit about what people think of him. He's to concerned about counting all his chips.
@CheaterNLaw feels bad tbh
Lol. This video goes over the head of everybody watching, commenting, and also the interviewer. Must be hard to do the interview when you know that 0.5% of anybody who will every watch it will gain anything from it.
is this an episode of family guy?
who is he 2 say who's a poker player and who's not? eat shorts jimmy!
He's a pro, moron.
they're not playing poker, they're just gambaling.
Lol
Can't speak, can make more money than you at poker!
the players will be just as bad lol
okay so let me get this straight. He says "he is not even sure if 3/6 or 4/8 is even beatable". Because of the rake. So how would even know anything about 4/8. This proves to me he hasn't beat 4/8 /w kill. And I have seen people make anywhere from 200-500$ in a night on a 4/8 table. I've done so myself. I don't agree with this guy at all. There not poker players.....I am better then this kid at Limit Poker.
