LOL "Ten years you thought about Janice? There are men in the can better lookin' than my sister." One of the greatest lines in the series.

I love how Ritchie just keeps wearing all his 80s clothes.
Just Randy He obviously went away in the early 80s and just resumed his old wardrobe adding no new items whatsoever.
Same with Tony B and his Miami Vice suits
Ewan MacFarlane Richie most likely went away in the late 80’s to 1990 going off the time of the second season’s (2000) occurrence.
@@beautifultragedy7803 yeah he went away in 1990

For me Richie was the scariest character on the show. Masterfully done by David Proval. Hope he's doing well.

He was awesome!
The show had a lot of amazing actors is why it was so good. Agreed, but tony among many others played it brilliantly

That first two minutes and forty-one seconds is some of the best writing ever: Richie constantly trying to undermine Tony, even going so far as to not putting his pants on, and yet Tony is unfazed: He completely owns Richie.
I wouldn’t say Tony owned him. Richie held his ground against him pretty well, didn’t put his pants on when Tony told him to, Richie told him to back the F off when Tony was talking trash about Janice
@@jaredmello you're one of the few. I agree with you and Possibly Richie could have killed him. Being old school he respected positions. Being bigger or/stronger don't mean better.
@x4Sanchox4 Tony said exactly what he thought. Ritchie had to hold his opinion. I'd say Tony won, but Tony was generally pissed off
Richie was "caught" sleeping with his sister, so he was being a tad bashful - but he warned Tony off. Richie was a scary ballsy dude. He had a legitimate beef with the Scatino thing.
@hansolo631 Caught? They are both grown adults, lmao. Richtie clearly had a sexual relationship back before he was made. Tony frustration is more that Richtie is at his mother's house and he knows their relationship will end poorly.
Such a good character. Wish they kept him around longer. Imagine Richie and Phil striking a partnership
They'd share a grill cheese ova da radiatah.
Tony would’ve definitely had a short lived run as boss
The brightest stars burn the fastest.
Richie Phil and Johnny Sack would've been quite the trio
I just wished he could have saved Adriana from Chrissy before she became a trapped snitch.
The Richie character is by far the most sinister. And the acting is par excellence
The secondary "alphas" were fun to watch - Richie, Ralph and Feech.
Ritchie was such a nice, sweet guy. I'm surprised he kept butting heads with everyone on the show. Super laid back and Zen from all of his Yoga. 😆
Nice guy lol
He understands the plight of women from his time in prison
@@jacobbeachley6955 I think the opposite lol
4:40 Funny how Ritchie is such a cold hearted mafioso but sounded genuinely upset if someone smokes at a open casket funeral
You can't make it up
David Proval was so amazing in this role. Just like James Gandolfini made Tony Soprano a "real person" to me. These are extremely dramatic scenes. Absolutely riveting. Richie seethed . . . he conveyed evil and tension in every single scene he was in. That is down to the amazing acting.
Richies character reminds me of a childhood friends father, wiry poisonous little bully always angry, their restaurant also attracted some suspect clients. Provals acting is something else.
Facts! Outstanding!
Great thorn in his side. Tony was scared of him as he was older than him and a feared guy when he was young. And the fact he was an Aprile. Great dynamics and power plays between them both.
I know richie has tremendous moxie for his size and he is fearless and all but, I can't even wear his shoes

Millions Billions Trillions of alternate universes and we exist in the only one that saw Sopranos casts perfectly to every character.
RedDevil86 In an alternate universe the sopranos was one of the worse shows on tv with terrible casting and was canceled during its first season 😂
There’s also an alternate universe where sopranos never even existed 😬
Everything you just said was wrong.
With another universe where we’re in the Sopranos
Game of thrones too
The Richie Aprile season was the best of the entire soprano series!
the good thing about the Sopranos is even though they got rid of awesome villains quickly, they always brought in a good replacement. Season 1 was Mikey Palmice. Season 2 was Richie. Seasons 3-4 was Ralph. Seasons 5-6 Phil.
Shinchan Richie and Phil were the best imo

Tony knew what Richie would kill David over the eight grand. He now owed Tony WAY more so Tony needed to protect him until he got his back first. 😂😂. Richie actually wasn’t wrong here, just how he went about it.

'Well, as long as the two of you are happy.'
I'm still smiling at the first time I heard that.
David played Richie perfectly because you get this idea he's from a different place, a different time and a totally different lifestyle altogether. He's like a walking time capsule. He demands recognition to his whole get-up but is unrequited in the end as he tried to nestle into a spot already cemented through years of dedication and work of the Sopranos crew while he was in the can.
Richie always had that swagger & swing walk like Al Pacino in (Scarface).🔥
WHEN tony asked the dead guy if he minds whether he smokes in there or not, 4:48 , he moves his right eyebrow up a tiny notch, . lol
Ralph hides when he’s with Janice at the house. Richie comes to the door with his underwear on.
Richie is a fucking boss!
Richie wanted all the smoke
"Ozzie and fuckin' Harriet"; great clips, thanks for putting these together and posting!
Thank you
That israel joke slaps hard
I think the key to understanding Richie's decision to hook up with Janice is how he tried to get closer to Tony when he fell out of favor with him, namely he gave him "the jacket". Being with Janice is his awkward mechanistic and calculated way of being close to the boss. Both moves are quite clumsy and anybody can spot them. It ties in well with him being generally bad at politics compared to say Johny Sack and Silvio who were very diplomatic and cunning in most occasions.
I like how Tony tried to use that Virginia ham reference with Richie after hearing it from Jr
I like how Richie, one of the most sociopathic characters, actually reminds Tony that he's not allowed to smoke in a funeral home. With that said, that's the least of their indiscretions (smoking where they're not allowed to).
I think I actually like to watch these clip video more than putting the full episode on.
Thanks borko for the ADD. ;)
Tonys lines in the-scene with ritchie and janice are absolutely phenomenal. Great writing
Ohhh, I miss James...
I watch these clips all the time, and then sometimes, all of a sudden -- I'm struck with the pang of loss...
Love you and miss you
❤
Man's fearless for his size.
That's nice...
Then what? He fucking dies I can't even wear his shoe's
As much as these two clashed it always seemed to me that Richie really just wanted Tony’s respect and to be one of his main men. He showed signs of challenging Tony, undermining his authority and generally trying to wind him up. However, he also tried in some respects to respect him e.g. the jacket which Tony gave away. There’s also the scene where Richie loses it when Janice says ‘he’s doesn’t want you round his kid.’ He was a loose cannon but in some ways it seemed like his aggressive attitude and nature was his way of believing it would push him up the chain more closer to Tony. He felt entitled to respect which he hadn’t really earned but I don’t think he ever really wanted to be boss just to be on the same level as Sil or Paulie for example. Instead of Tony going head to head with him every time he may have found a way to manage him better. That being said Tony probably enjoyed the confrontation.
I agree. The use of "Fields of Gold" by Sting as Richie sees his treasured jacket on Tony's maid's husband seemed to truly hurt him. He made a real gesture to fall in line and be an asset for their thing, and Tony didn't accept it. What Richie did to Beansie was horrible though and unforgivable and Tony was right to not let that go.
I feel bad for the guys who go to prison, they spend 10 or so years dicking around only to be sent back with nothing to show for it.
"That being said Tony probably enjoyed the confrontation." ---> if I remember well it gave him panic attacks?
I love the writers for having Janice be the one who kills Richie in the end. I think it gave her a little redemption with her past and with her big brother.
Ya. Only because Richie flipped and punched her in the mouth. Was for her own selfish reason.
Classic boring "subverting expectations" writing. But a great character nonetheless
I cant believe this was 20 years ago, back when things felt normal. I was only 7 then lol

Seeing Richie killed when he so didn't expect it was one of the sweetest moments in the entire series....
Hell yeah! I loved Janice for just that one moment!
One person Richie couldn’t intimidate was Tony. Tony immediately steps forward showing zero fear. A guy like Richie in real life would put a lot of fear in a lot of ppl. And the only way to not be his victim is to do exactly what Tony does. But Tony also is carrying a trump card, he’s the boss. And Richie has to bite his lip with him and can’t just attack him either. But if they were both captains then maybe they might go to eat against each other crew vs crew if the boss couldn’t mediate it. Men like Richie only respect other men prone to violence and show zero fear around him
Pretty sure Silvio didn’t fear Richie either, he probably respected him though
I love that 'surprised Tony' look & walk. James Gandolfini nailed it every time.
