Revit Snippet: Turn ANY Family into Line or Curve Based

  • This tutorial will show you how to turn any Revit family to a line based or curve based component. We will begin by creating a generic model family based on a straight line. Then, we will take it further and make a curve based family where you can choose any normal Revit family and it will array/copy that component along an arc. You can use the same technique to create spline based families as well.
    You can download the completed Revit families from this lesson here: rv-boost.com/product/line-bas...

    To anyone who is facing an issue with there component placement make sure that it is Shared, always vertical is ticked off and it is a workplane-based family.

    Hello Sr. Great tutorial there!
    I’m working on a theater design right now and is there anyway you can share the adaptive curved family?
    I’ve tried it only succeed in the first family, for the second one, I don’t know what I’m doing wrong but I just can’t get the chair to rotate along with the second based point, I’ve tried different chair families but still the same.

    • @RVBoost
      @RVBoost  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the kind words, Parson!
      Please try to follow the tutorial exactly to the seconds to make sure that chair can rotate. Unfortunately, it's been a while since I did this tutorial so I can't seem to find the family files now... My colleagues however did put them on our shop page. It's here if you need it: rv-boost.com/product/line-based-and-arc-based-auditorium-chairs/

    Great tuto but may i ask a question. For the adaptive chair, why do you use two points (an adaptive and a reference) one over the other. Wouldn't it work only with the adaptive alone?

    • @RVBoost
      @RVBoost  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      We actually need that second point to add a rotation parameter :) Please see it created at 7:30 and then used at 8:40!

    i did exactly everything step by steb , same . Chair does not rotate ( spent whole day doing this ) i did it super slow too but no result .

    Hi RV boost, love the vid, but I have a similar problem to others in the comments. When I place the family on the second reference point, I am not given an option to host it on a ref plane as shown in the video. The option simply isn't there.

    • @RVBoost
      @RVBoost  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, you can try this to make the family workplane based: knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2021/ENU/Revit-Customize/files/GUID-70F24230-D596-4AA3-A425-91B1E560BC53-htm.html

      Yes it should! Simply use a spline instead of an arc :)

    Does it matter what type of family we use for the component we load into the adaptive points family? What type of family was the chair that you used?

    • @RVBoost
      @RVBoost  ปีที่แล้ว

      It was a generic model family if I remember correctly. Anything not face-based/wall-bases/floor-based should work. We just need the item to be able to move freely.

  • @rhandel13

    My radius' makes for a lopsided arc. Any suggestions? I would like them to be as symmetrical as possible.

    • @rhandel13
      @rhandel13 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      i think i got it. I changed the reference points to match a "start, end radius" like arc and shortened the span of the arc! Thank you! These are the best revit videos on youtube!

    Can't find the "Placement" tab anywhere. The one in between Mode and Family editor under "Modify | Place Component"

    • @RVBoost
      @RVBoost  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If that tab shows in the video then you've probably missed a step somewhere. Please revisit the whole video...

      you have to go into family category and parameters (left right corner ) and mark " set on workplane " first in a row .

    • @RVBoost
      @RVBoost  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, please make sure you place that chair on the 2nd reference point in the family. In the video, I showed how to place this 2nd point and use it Rotation parameter.
