I think it depends on where you take it. I know in my state if you drop the bike twice, you're out. If you drop it once on the final test, you're out. No refunds, no exceptions.
When I took it, they very clearly stated that if we dropped the bike at any point in final test, it was automatic fail, no refunds, nothing. Sadly a lady who was in our class found that out the hard way
Don't feel bad brother, stalling is just part of the game! I ride a ZX9R and I rode in a group next to a ZX14R (STRAIGHT PIPE!!!) and I stalled mine multiple times because I couldn't even hear my own thoughts!! lol I also over-revved once because I couldn't hear my engine RPM during a pull next to the ZX14R. From this experience, I learned to always rev the bike a little extra on take-off when I can't hear it, but this is a HABIT and comes with TIME...I also cheated a little and installed a shift-light now, just to make sure the engine stays healthy! lol I stalled a few weeks ago at light next to a police cruiser LMAO it happens when you're just not in tune... If you watch MotoGP, the PROS also stall all the time! (us riders, will stall whenever we are under pressure, nervous, anxiety, etc.) FYI, anyone who acts like they never stall their bike, THEY DON'T RIDE. Their bike just sits in a garage. They ride twice a year around the block and go back to their Corolla for 11 months, call themselves "bikers". Then, they have the audacity to judge you in your comments for your honesty. Non-biker behavior detected lol real bikers don't judge fellow bikers like that!
I failed my test but plan to get an instruction permit to practice on my own. My learning style is more hands-on and exploratory. Although I had exposure at the MSF course, it wasn’t enough for me. (adhd) I need more practice and experience and hope to receive a proper endorsement sometime in the future. Thanks for your honesty and willingness to open up about how you felt. I’m learning so I can surprise a family member who loves riding, and hope to ride with them.
@@KimmyR3Nah fr, I unsubbed after seeing the replies cause why am I watching a dude who’s gonna slam into a tree at 140 within the next month 😂. Just wasting all our time
Might sound weird but riding came naturally to me because I’ve been riding a bicycle everyday since I was 5 yrs old n ppl say it doesn’t but to me a motorcycle was just a much heavier bicycle.
I had a similar experience with the clutch during my MSF but my instructors werent cocky asshats so i figured it out. the first instructors should have been able to communicate through your frustration the proper method. From what you are describing with the clutch issue, it sounds like you were not rolling on the throttle while slowly letting out the clutch. Many bikes, but especially the smaller bikes, do not have enough idling power to pull through the friction zone without some throttle input. I suspect starting on the gsxr 'spoiled' you in that sense. Althoigh I could be totally wrong
Yea, that's actually a carbureted bike thing lol! Here's a cheat-code, there's a cable that has a knob and that knob adjusts the distance the throttle flaps keep during idle...clockwise to increase the gap (higher idle), test it, and keep increasing it until the bike can ride with clutch only, no throttle needed. This also helps stabilize the feel during maneuvers such a U-turns, etc. This is how I have my ZX9R setup.
@NightRevBikes Sometimes, people who do something for a long time tend to forget the little things they learned. Maybe this experience was meant to happen so that I'll always try to remember the little things to pass along to new riders.
I bought a 2023 Hayabusa and it's been 35 years since I rode other than getting on a 750 cruiser for a few min. I have about 300 miles on it now, and about half are city streets stop and go. I stalled mine yesterday evening not giving it the gas on take off. I have done this about 4 times. Seems these bikes like the gas ! As I am getting more comfortable with it in turns and stop-turns at higher speeds my turning is getting tighter and way more stable, but it's kinda hard for me to jump out into traffic with no cage ! Be careful brother !
Threw some Shinko tires on my fz09 and it totally changed the riding style. Corners feel so much better and I feel like I can lean to the floor. Try doing slow speed corners in a higher gear so you don't over gas on accident
I started on a 2007 r6, and the very 1st day on the street i crashed into a pickup truck😢. Its ok though, I'm all good now and in the process of getting my bike fixed.
We had a BEEG heavy guy fall off the bike and drop it once and they kicked him out. They then proceeded to tell us how one guy dropped the bike seven times and still passed so I’m really confused.
From my understanding, if the Coaches feel unsafe, they will not let me continue the class. The big guy probably did something unsafe. Thanks for watching 🤙🏿🤙🏿🤙🏿
Sorry to hear the bike in the first course didn't get along with you, having to repeat the course is a major fear of mine because it costs $425 here in California, and I've also heard of people being told to leave the class because they were too slow compared to the rest of the class but the rest of the class was already experienced because they had been riding for years without a license and just needed the course to become legal or to save on insurance costs... They shouldn't put those people in the same course as people who truly have no experience.
In my 2nd go around, there was one experience rider. I made sure to stay close to him to watch how he rode. Watching him did help me get thru the class. Being around experience riders can be intimidating, but most experience riders I've met have been very positive and helpful. 🤙🏿🤙🏿🤙🏿
I've had my motorcycle endorsement for years here in Ohio, and I still pick up an occasional MSF course here and there. As a matter of fact, I'm scheduled to attend one next Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. They raised the price from $50 to $75 here; however, the courses are worth every penny. Anything more than $100 is highway robbery, though. 😅😅😅
u know why im glad I didnt get a 600/1000? well 1, for someone with no concept of acceleration, braking, basic controls...(a young person for example) it is suicidal. 2- You cant ride a 600/1000 as intended without being criminal, or without putting yourself in high risk, hell you cant even use it on most highways lol, unless you are lucky to live somewhere very smooth. My sv650 I get to go through gears and not go to prison lol. and 3... Where do you go from a 1000? You skipped the progression tree completely there is nothing more to look forward to! Its a tough hobby cause next thing u know u want a super moto, a cruiser, an adventure bike lol. Nah if I had the budget and experience I wouldve went with a Katana or gsxs but again I would still want MORE lol. Right now, I want a 1250 bandit... Sport tourer... Or a Triumph Tiger... adv tourer.. See, It just doesnt stop lol. Stay safe man take your time, you miss alot if you are ripping around 247.
Some of the best riders dont ha:e that special "M" on their license. I didnt get a license for 7 years because it required I take a full day off work, rent a trailer, buy a tow hitch and adapter, and tow my bike to the state police office to take a 2 minute test. Thats $300 in fees and lost wages for me, i can see wby so many just ride dirty, and i regret getting my endorsement.
They are going to have you doing things that are likely to have you drop the bike from what I have seen and heard, I have not taken one though, and they have frame sliders and more protection for their bikes. dropping your new bike is not something you want to do, gets up to $500 pretty quick with just a broken clutch lever footpeg and damage to a plastic fairing that costs $200. add another $50-$75 for that fancy sticker too.
Where I’m from you can’t bring your own bike except for more advanced courses. I think they also don’t want to open the playing field for someone to bring a bike that’s too powerful for them and causing a higher risk of an incident as well as other ppl possibly being hit by said biker. Also I’m very surprised to hear ppl are dropping bikes in other states. If you drop the bike ovr here in north jersey u fail automatically even if u drop it before the test part starts.
