- With our growing homestead we have been using Jonathan the John Deere tractor a lot more and need to add ballast for safe loading. Looked around and can get a ballast box ready made for about $350 and then fill it with concrete for another $30…or Make a

#tractorballast #ballastwieght #3pointballast
Understand not everyone has a tractor but I didn't see any decent videos on making 3-Point ballast so here we go! Happy Easter everyone!
Very cool video, great job. Happy Easter to you too.
Another great project in the books pal 👍. A counter balance is a great way to help keep your tractor stable and help prevent any bouncing around.
Keep the great videos coming
Enjoyed the video. I just bought a 2038R in November. I had them load up the rear tires with rim guard. A very cost effective way to add rear ballast and I keep a box blade on the back as well. Probably going to get a ballast box soon and just fill it up with rock or concrete -- again a great video and very creative idea.
Great job. Thanks for sharing! Good to see the results of ingenuity and skills - creating something massively useful for very little $$$.
I don’t own a tractor or have need for this but I find your videos rather interesting & I learn from them no matter what. Nice job!
When you first started to pour I was worried about the box blowing apart. Was relieved to see the clamps added. Great design. Hope you and your family have a very Happy Easter.
That was a good price on the concrete. Now you've gotta paint it green to match the tractor!
I was just looking at lots of the other ballast 'box' ideas - I think yours is the most sensible.
People are spending lots of money for steel boxes that they fill with concrete and then can't use the boxes any more - which doesn't make a lot of sense.
I do not have a tractor. Watched the whole thing. Love your channel!!
Nice job on the concrete tractor ballast Tyler! Thank you for sharing the video with us' and Happy Easter To you and the family!👍💖😎JP
Thank you for this video! Ive been thinking making one and this will help a great deal.
Very well done, thanks for the video
I appreciate the video. Thanks for the information and help.
Another awesome video!! Thank you!!
Great tip. Thank you sir
Good Job
Awesome 👏 solution
Have an old Farmall H... Great video
Nice simple and cheap solution. My dad just leaves the slasher deck on, which is good for weight, but what a hell of a pain when getting in and around the trees.
If you were to do it again, would you add a steel angle frame around the base?
I like this. Great job sir.
Nice. These are $300 all day long everywhere around here. Looking forward to busting one out from scrap.
Anything you would do different? I like this idea more than a barrel because you can make it wider and longer which will lower the mass, and you can pick it up higher to clear obstacles if needed.
Not sure who did his math but 6 bags at 60 lbs each is 360 lbs not 660! This block is under 400 lbs if the steel used weights 25 lbs or so?
I think he misspoke about the quantity. There were 11 bags on the pallet which would be 660. I re-watched it bc I caught that too.
concrete is right at 150 lbs per cu ft. that box does look like it holds 4 cubic ft easy so he misspoke on the bags
Misspoke....9:31
I too was perplexed. Checked with calculator 3x 😣
Hey Tyler great video as always. What brand and where did you get the table top metal cutting bandsaw. That's awesome
Хорошо сделано. Молодец 👍
What are the box dimensions Tyler? I need to build one thanks for the ideas.
Cool. Thanks.
You bet!
Now that you've had this almost a year, what are your thoughts? Things you would change? Well done vid!
Nice project . Curious how the relationship with DIY & CRAFTS is ? Thinking of partnering with them as well .
Out of curiosity, what is the model of that John deere?
Great video. I don't have the time to fab something like this up at the moment but appreciate the video and your effort in making it. Mad skills for a young man. New sub here.
Question: where did you get the portable metal band saw? That little thing is awesome.
Concrete is considered "Green" until is has cured.
Band saw from Sawblade.com. One of their trajen saws.
👍👍
👍
😀😀
Check your math there wood boy! 6 x 60 is 360
Sheeshe...yea! Did I say 6, you can see in the bucket it's actually 11 bags @60lbs...lol
Are you blind?
Hello
Carbide hole cutter ...
Don't say 666lbs, don't say 666lbs, don't say 666lbs. LOL, great vid!
Over the Top!
I can appreciate the effort. 18 gauge brad nails …. Had me wondering about the integrity of his skills.
That being said, he’s got a nice shop.
Like he said, he likes to weld…and is good at it.
However, I found that welding for this type of project isn’t called for.
Saying this - is because, finding a weight 7/8 bar and a Rubbermaid bin and a top hitch is all ya need …ohhh and concrete
Just saying 😅
Not having the ability to weld could someone buy a cheaper 3 point hitch ($90) and build a box around that?
Yep, thats exactly what I'm doing. I'm buying a hitch extension from harbor freight so I can make the box bigger. Form around it and go.
$60 in material cost but probably $500-$1000 in fab/hours to make it. Great idea but might be easier for most to buy a ballast.
6 bags of 60 lbs is 360 lbs not 660 . you need 11 bags for 660 .
You're right....9:31
I'm a chiep bastard, what I do istead of spend any money buting one or wasting my time naking one? I have my mother in law standing on the hidrylic arms. Works and keep her ocupied!
Since the concrete is not structural, steel reinforcement was not truly necessary. Since you put it in, it ended up too close to the forms, should have been at least 1 1/2" from the forms. You also did not build the forms strong enough, as you saw when you placed the concrete. You stripped the forms too soon, you should have waited 3 days before stripping the forms, and the concrete is supposed to gain 75% of design strength in 7 days, and 100% of design strength in 28 days. If all the concrete had a similar slump to the first load, then whatever the design strength on the bag is what you can reasonably expect. I'm an ACI (American Concrete Institute) certified technician, and professional construction inspector, and those are my observations.
Pour in the morning, strip by lunch here on Australia?
If you would spend more time throwing a football and less time on TH-cam you would still be in Cleveland and you could afford to pay for a real ballast box!!!
