    The worst excuse I’ve ever heard repeatedly is “dressing well is expensive,” as you said. I can’t ever understand why anyone would say that.

      @@kevinleonardo2063 thanks I appreciate it and yes. There are so many options from making our own clothes to ebay, depop, grailed, facebook buy/sell groups, yahoo auctions and more.

      I feel like the main reason people say that is that they think oh it’s just a piece of cloth why can’t it be cheap? They wanna dress in designer but don’t wanna pay for it. Never understood that. I don’t own a Ferrari. I don’t need one. I can’t afford one. I won’t necessarily get more out of it on a day to day as compared to a reasonable car. It just looks really nice. Nice things are expensive... Always seemed simple to me

      Saying probally comes from a time where dressing well meant wearing suits and well, suits are pretty expensive.

    Sometimes I feel like it’s a case of “My nerdism is cooler and therefore more valid than your nerdism.” Like when you mentioned people decrying fashion because it’s shallow and materialistic, yet they post videos about their extensive Blu-ray collection, or the latest guitar they bought, etc. There’s nothing wrong with either or those, but the idea that because we’re not interested in a certain subject so it isn’t relevant really narrows an individual’s perspective and kills curiosity.

    • @zhen86

    I hate when people say it's all about vanity. I'm one of the most self-depricating people there is, but I love fashion. You can be down to earth and still like to look good and express yourself with what you wear.

  • @xio1183

    Fashion is so expressive and it's true that it can change the way you feel and act in a positive way, the more you grow as a person the better your individual style gets

    • @godandcountry357
      @godandcountry357 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is the problem, these so called fashion people just like to 'express' themselves while in reality their 'self-expression' are neither asked nor welcomed.

  • @WayneLLC
    @WayneLLC 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think being different always triggers people who are into being conformed - they typically see you as a 'threat'. And #2 being the same concept but on the different extreme really brings out the point -with each end wanting to make their group exclusive.

    I enjoy things (including but not limited to fashion) that are created out of love for the medium and crafted in self-expressive, unique ways.
    I hate it when these things are aggressively monetized and oversaturated to death.

    A weird about fashion (and art in general) is how subjective most of it is, yet how opinions about are often presented as facts or objective. You obviously can discuss trends and analyze fashion, but there is a rift you just have to get over, and I think a few people just cant.
    (Both on the love and hate side of fashion. Like treating some things as absolute truth, or not taking well thought out opinions or actual facts serious.)

  • @ntsakomathebula4840

    I think why people hate fashion is the same as those who love cars or those who love games, sometimes that love they express may come off as obnoxious and or jarring. Like dudes rocking full yellow fits. I love cars but most hate shiny chrome rims or a loud exhaust, but i do. I love fashion but its very easy to hate it or not like it, because ,i like everyone else, dont want to or need to see your personality all over the place. It shouldnt be that way but it is.

    *Sometimes what can tell us about a culture without using words the easiest is clothes. Throughout history clothes have always been a huge part and have told us about the different regions and what has gone on in that time. It is immensely important what we wear because it says so much without a single word being said. Of course there are way more important things in life because we just need to cover our naked bodies but it sure does feel good to wear something that makes you feel nice.*

    Style comes from within. I can't say how many times I've seen clowns rocking a name brand, with the branding on full display, on every single thing they have on, and looking corny af! Imagine a guy with a pair of yeezys on, an Astroworld hoodie, underneath a Supreme x Northface puffer jacket, along with the Supreme x Northface backpack walking through the mall, in August, in Dallas, Texas....and he was walking behind his 50 something dad...who was rocking BAPE...let that picture sink in.

    Without offending anyone Surely Fashion/Trends are Stupid?!, they Subdue Individuality,
    I am so Proud to have My own Personal Tastes although when I was younger I didn't know any better!, I still Prefer Music from My Favourite Era (Mid to Late 70'S -Mid to Late 80's) & are still Discovering Tunes from way back that I missed then or Music from before I was Born, I have got into Classical Music a bit now that I am a bit Older & Mellower (I mean Music because not keen on the Opera Stuff!),
    I Dress for My Own Eye & Feel & although I won't win any Fashion awards i see a lot of People Dressed worse that Me imo!,
    I style My Hair in My own way with really Cheap Tubbed Hair Gel, I'm a Guy who wants to Look Presentable & Well Turned out & with no Personal Hygiene issues, I suppose being a Natural Loner Helps Me in this Ethos as I never have the urge to Fit in although sometimes I want to Blend in & not be Noticed if the Wiser among You understand that Statement/Vibe!.

    I love fashion but hate the industry. It's unfortunately one of the largest polluters globally (second to only the oil industry).
    That being said, that's partially why I'm so excited people are moving away from fast fashion and mall brands as they refine their style, shop second hand, and splurge on higher-end pieces from designers (I'm still very weary of sportswear brands tho, as paying $250+ for a piece of cloth/leather/rubber that was made in a sweatshop and will not age or take abuse seems unfortunate). I'm hoping we are moving towards more sustainable fashion, and seeing high profile designers like Stella McCartney and Spencer Phipps focus on sustainability within the fashion world is hopeful.

    I'm sorry I usually like your videos but I think you are way off here. Everyone has their own sense of personal fashion that coincides with their identity and how they see themselves and present themselves to the world. There are just varying levels of emphasis put on it. How much effort, time and importance placed on it.
    Take my father for example, hes a 60 year old man who worked construction his whole life and puts very little effort into fashion. He doesn't understand spending more than $30 on a shirt or $60 on a pair of shoes, but it is not that he actually has a disdain for fashion. He just comes from a different time, sees himself and the world differently than most today. He grew up in the 70s when the hippie counterculture movement was still very influential. To him, showing that he isn't concerned with material things and is frugal is just as much as a flex as someone wearing supreme today. The difference is that today it is celebrated to be able to carelessly spend exorbitant amounts of money on clothing and material goods and that is looked favorably upon. In his day however it was the complete opposite the guys that spent way too much time and money on their outfits were seen as assholes and "yuppies" or "square". The exact opposite was admired fashionably at that time but that doesn't mean that he doesn't have a certain esthetic and dress in a certain way. That's all fashion is is an esthetic and image you try to curate to represent who you are. Nobody hates fashion they just have different values and try to convey different ideals to the world based on who they are. Even the most unfashionable person in the world picks and chooses what they like and wear based on the image they want to portray.

    I wouldn't say I am into fashion, but I am definitely into clothing. As Reggie more or leas said; clothing is a language, and how you dress says a lot about you to other people. And I mean far beyond how a dude's hoodie might tell you he likes Transformers.
