    I only avoid wearing multiple brands if the pieces have prominent logos, it looks so tacky to me to have a bunch of completely different logos all over my fit. It's not about "disrespecting" the brand, more about how it just clashes visually if you've got all different logos. If the logos aren't displayed at all, or are tiny and there is a unifying motif between the pieces then I'm all for it.

      Totally agree for the clothes where the main focus is to promote the logo (which is streetwear culture mainly). So a rule of thumb for me is when my statement piece is one of those clothes, I just match it up (when I'm feeling streetwear at least).

      Magnus Ronning made a video where he followed a traditional fashion guide. He also explained that those TH-cam channels are aimed towards guys who don't know how to dress properly and want to look socially acceptable. I'm not saying they don't have useful content, but their content isn't meant for fashion enthusiasts, streetwear fanatics etc. I also want to mention that Jose from TMF actually owns some Off-White and Fear of God pieces, so he does appreciate streetwear hypebeast brands. However, for a lot of men it's a risky style and not something they feel confident wearing when outside, at school or at work (if it's allowed at the workplace).

  • @hiddenvoice27
    @hiddenvoice27 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    I feel like you talked about this in a stream or something a while back, but perhaps ironically, one thing that I've come to believe is important is creating rules for yourself. I'm not talking about big categories like "no socks and sandals." I mean really specific details. For example, I try to always have at least one black and/or white element, and one primary color in my outfit on any given day. Whether art, fashion (also art), or even sport, setting parameters helps define what it is you want to narrow down. Within those bounds, experiment with various components and eventually you'll have something that's super tight and unique to you.
    Sometimes I get down on myself because I don't make my own clothes (yet). But then I remember that likely no one has ever worn the exact combination of clothes that I'm wearing, and that changes my perspective.

    • @hiddenvoice27
      @hiddenvoice27 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hydnf word. I think what I first said was a little unclear. To me, making rules for myself is not as much about cutting things out as it is about ensuring that I keep and maintain the things I like. In any case I'm fine agreeing to disagree a little, to each their own. And thanks, really trying to make my pipe dream a reality, who knows.

    Hey reggie, glad you made this video. Been a follower for about a year and a half now. Ever since I got a better paying job, I decided to take steps in expanding my wardrobe figuring out my style. I'm an illustrator so that focus has always been in art, and as a person- I tried to find my style in social situations. Now I'm trying to refine my style in terms of fashion.
    In terms of rules, after seeing your vids, and comparing and contrasting them with Richie Le, Jose Zuniga, Frugal, ect. I realized more and more that these rules arent hardcoded rules at all and can serve as guidelines for beginners. Just like any rules and fundamentals in art, once you understand them, you can begin to bend and break them.
    And so now after a year trying to understand these rules and applying them, comes me trying to refine my style that closely resembles my identity. And it's going to be a long journey with many hurdles, but i'm excited. and at my age, I dont care what people will think, I'm just gonna try things out and see what happens. You gotta fail your way to success sometimes.
    Anyways, I'll stop rambling but keep it up with the great content.

    I don't follow the brand rule, but due to my OCD, i think if i wore clearly visible brands on certain items of clothes, i would like them to match :)

    I've only heard of the Labour day thing because of the film Serial Mom. I don't think anyone outside the USA has ever heard of it so it wouldn't apply. Also, surely there are 364 days after Labour day?

    I ain’t gonna lie loved the video. But the brand synergy rule I sortve abide by. Idk why but I feel uncomfortably when I wear two different sportswear brands. And ik it’s stupid but I’ve been this way for a while. But I’ve recently have been trying to change that.

    I have a borderline irrationally intense distaste of words and pictures pasted on my body in general. I almost exclusively wear AScolour (screenprint supply brand from NZ i.e. completely unbranded blanks) and work pants and plan to do away with sneakers entirely in favour of leather shoes and boots from Red Wing and the local surplus store. I use being somewhat jacked as an excuse to never extend beyond my comfort zone lol.

    The only essentials you actually *need* is clothes for every occasion which depend on stuff like climate, occupation and social circles (like if you have a lot of friends that may get married at some point, you should definitely own a suit, in my opinion)
