17 years later and no band has stepped up. No one will fill the void left by NMN.
impatient aren't ya? Chances are someon stepped up and made marvelleous music and poetry, just as NMN, but you just never heard of them, or didn't like it.
@@ejvindkjrulf259 There's two kinds of music: good music and bad music. Just be glad we witnessed this shit.
I concur...
NEVER!!
Hanson brothers
Tightest band ever that work their machines and voices seamlessly. The best of punk/post punk coming out of Canada since the 80’s.
Not just out of Canada...
If I would have know that the last time I saw Nomeansno it was the LAST TIME I would have cried more and puked less. Now I am reduced to an endless series of inner city house basement concerts from the urbane wit of Tom Holliston and his mad quest for human pyramids. Life is empty. When I win the lotto I am going to force Nomeansno to play one more time.
you tube is free
turn it up fuckin loud
My alltime favorite live band has stopped playing :(
like to treat them, but good memories...
Do you like Idles?
I love how at the start that shaved headed lad with the Wrong T-shirt is screaming with joy that they're opening with everyday, fair play .
humor, creativity + incredible skills
I ended up intensely enjoying this. Thanks to the workers that made it available.

Thank you for your service!
Amazing video editing and great audio quality. Thank you!
John Wright.Truly amazing percussionist.
ZINCOVIX8754. Love your battle of the planets photo. John is an amazing drummer, it will be interesting to see what he produces in new ventures.
He is incredible. Solid, hard-hitting, and on top of that such a huge part of the personality of the band.
The Wright's are both exceptional. Kerr was great, but I think Holliston was a better fit.
@@StripeGurger Andy Kerr and Rob Wright were NMN. We just watched NMN bleed out for a decade afterwards
@@MeatShield666 how can you say that when John and Rob started out as a duo?
Whoever organized to document this show, I salute you.
The band has retired.
I will not call them old, but they are pushing 70.
Thank you so much for sharing this gem with us !
Best Canadian band ever! You can keep Rush etc. No Means No one of the most egregiously underrated bands of all time. I've been a huge fan since Sex Mad came out wore the vinyl out playing all the fuckin time.
I'm a Rush fan and I agree with everything you've stated. I'm a bass player too, so that may factor into it ;)
Rush is awesome that cant be argued but this band deserves way more attention and their own place in music history but are deprived of it because they play punk music. Which we all know is not liked by many and therefore doesn't generate enough profit to incentivise the corporate music business to fund. Which is fucking bullshit considering all the insanely talented and creative bands that have came and gone throughout history without mention for the most part.
Just Canada? Are you serious?
You forgot Voivod... they split the top with NMN
Rush and NMN are actually my two favorite bands.
These guys gave us west coast kids So. Many. Shows. Saw them over and over, never got boring. Seen a lot of big name acts. None of them put on the show that these guys do.
Yeah, some of those Victoria shows were intense.
I am so envious of you west coast kids…. living in Boston I never got the chance to see them. I even contacted coach Laurie Mercer via email around 1999 or 2000 begging for Nomeansno to tour through the Northeastern US (or for some VHS footage of a performance since TH-cam wasn’t a thing yet). Their response was that Nomeansno didn’t like touring the northeast and that a DVD would be out soon (a couple years later Would We Be Live came out). I cried when they broke up. Their music helped me through some really dark times and has influenced my life in a major way,
I do like the variety of songs, especially longer ones like The Phone Call. Well done!

I saw them on the 0+2=1 tour in Bristol Bierkeller , U.K. Phenomenal musicians and compositions! Real Love!
I was there. Also remember seeing them in The Tropic club in Bristol late 80's early 90's. Cant remember the exact year...
I saw them on that tour at the Grand in Clapham. Down the front, ended up with a cracked rib. Worth it though.
one of the 25+ times that i was lucky enough to see these fine gentlemen..i miss them already. Also miss the Starfish room.
Best Live-Band,i ever saw!
Saw them once in 85 with DOA at Gillys in Dayton, Ohio. This band blew me away. They are a fantastic band. Great live show. So glad to see them again on You Tube.
Gary Webb ah the time of Andy Kerr.🎸
@@odettegordonyo So jealous. Cincinnatian here, wish I was there.
Philip Combs it’s a beautiful place to visit, little humid right now tho’. Stay strong stay WRONG 😑
What a fucking drummer.
was definitely at this show - remember it vividly.
feel pretty lucky to live in vancouver and have seen them 25+ times.
I live in Bay Area and seen NOMEANSNO over 45 times casually
I grew up with them in my hometown, saw them weekly (almost :) [Victoria]
@Dan Lyth Vancouver B.C. Is A Very Beautiful Place As Well As The People And The Musical Geniuses Nomeansno I Got Sex Mad Wrong 0+2=1 On Vinyl The Alternative Tentacles Pressings
this is insane. NMN's music is energy in its purest form.
best band ever! meet john wright last summer and he told me to check out his latest project compressor head and im super happy i did, awesome stuff!
A place for old men! Look at this funky punkgramps, yeah! They rules, ever! No pose, no fuss!
Always real musicpower! They quit 2016.
Fine outflow. We always remember Funkpunkpower from Canada.
Thanx Mr. Wright, Mr. Wrong and Mr. Holliston. Not forgotten Andy Kerr!
Also worth mentioning very fine video-management and recording.
The year was 1996. It was my birthday & I went down to Deep Elum in Dallas Texas with some friends to celebrate. We ended up at the Orbit Room and the Hanson Brothers were playing. It was outside on a patio in February. I was up front. It was one of the best performances I ever witnessed. By far one of my top 3 birthdays. So what if I'm older than dirt?
Saw the Hansons on the same tour in Halifax NS and have seen alot of legendary bands before and since the Hansons are still top 5. NMN are way up there as well.
This is so fckng beautiful. Saw them live only 2 times (Mr. Happy and Worldhood..).
Incredible band!!!
place was pack ha ha! awesome show! great memories. Last saw them in Cumberland , vancouver island like 2012-14, in a small little bar, Sooooo awesome . it is the band i was lucky to see the most often in my life, and probably would drive 8 hours if i know they play somewhere., even if only the 2 brothers only. Maybe Rob voice is kaput.....if not , im in! Many thanks for this awesome historical recording.
Yes .. we live in dark ages .. cool performance !
GOD I MISS THEM! SO FUCKING GREAT!!! ALL HAIL NMN
I love you like you do :) and have since I Was 14 and saw the gig at the Rats nest in Esquimalt, that gig with Black Flag and some other band...was Awesome, changed my life and enabled me to live. Thanks
RIP-The Starfish Room...and every other decent live music venue in Vancouver.
Geez I know they’re all gone and there’s nothing. It’s weird.
@@tubytootoo its all went down when Luva Fair closed and Gentrification expended territories. Also closing comodore for a long period shit reno didnt help i think.
@@bfortier5198 i think it was when the town pump became a dance club. So many excellent shows there. Me and a buddy saw almost 200 shows in a year.
I have been lucky to grow up in Victoria and have seen these guys numerous times
@7:00 Best. Dance. Ever.
From the screaming joy at the start through to the one-man stage invasion at the end, this show is pure magic.
penguin stomp
The band encouraged the recording of their shows they just asked for no flashes. And do not get on stage. Tom bounced that guy pretty quick! I got pushed on stage while surfing at one show. John hit me in the head with a well aimed drumstick.
My ears are so happy.....
I only got to see them once. It was the 0+2=1 tour a very long time ago. They were as tight as a mosquito's asshole live. So great!! It was at the OK Hotel in Seattle in 1990 or 1991 I think
This is unbelievably tight.
The Briliant above Diamonds. Pure Art.
By far the bast quality version of this amazing show that I’ve seen. Awesome.
Top 5 bands ever !
What's the other four in your list?
fantastici loro e fantastico audio e video
I first saw them as the Hanson brothers at the west van Rec center playing with the smugglers and the evaporator. Then I saw them as nomeansno at the commodore, this was around 92 I think. I'll never forget watching them play red devil live with two drummers, it changes the way I heard the song. It happened with other songs of theirs too at future shows too. Eegads, there was nothing quite like seeing them play live.
I was at the Commodore when they had two drummers as well. I can't remember the year. I do remember Mr Wrong dressed up as a priest and the spotlight was reflected off the massive chrome keys of his bass shooting out all like life giving mana. It was fantastic.
Liam I remember seeing them play Mr Wrong before NMNsNO for the tribute to Ken after he died in the fire (DOA DRUMMER and he also drummer for the Hanson Bros). I remember that show like yesterday too. Itch played and Nomeansno just owned it. Hanson’s played nuts and Ford Pier came out with a giant wedge of cheese on his head.
Around 92 they played Commodore with The Ex opening for them. Whew!
These guys are wonderful...got on their guest list once before they left the country
Such a great band. One of a kind
in my top 3 bands ever, philosophy, wisdom and humour powered by the tightest band
By far the best band on the AT label
A happy way to spend my lunch break watching this :-)
excellent edit - great sound - feels real - good job, marcus! nice work, craig!
Watching and loving, feeling so lucky to see this only to realize I have this on DVD😊
Hi Bob, I never released this on DVD (only here free, authorised by the band). Can you send me info on where you got it. cinestirfilms@gmail.com

GOD, they were GOOD!! Miss them
HANDSON BROS SIDE BAND///SINGER PLAYS DRUMS!!! REAL GOOD SHIT!!!!JELLO BIAFRAS APPROVES!!!
I have seen them many times and they still my favorite live band ever.. So sadly that they stopped but when you the level and intensity of their playing they had to ill guess
first saw NMN with 12 people in the audience at Princess Theater in Edmonton. Also got to play the Starfish Room stage a few times. Damn. O ya, and singer in my band got in trouble playing Sex Mad album over speakers at family skate time at a rink he worked at in Alberta when he was locked out of the office and "normal" music supply.
Cool venue, intense band. West Coast 👌BCs Best ever.
not even BC`s. So sad they quitt, worse than my devorce
I followed them all aroud Europe and half of the world

Fantastic band; great memories!
Canadian Legends !!!!!
このバンドの曲ってベースがすごく特徴的だから弾いてるとすごく楽しいです。まぁ日本人でコピーする人はあんまいないでしょうがねw
マイナーですがいいバンドですよ。ライブ行ってみたいっス。
lucky to see nomeansno good few times in the late 1980s early 1990s ?just killer live??
Watching this after hearing Tom has left the band. Thanks for the years of great music Tom. But hopefully this isn't the end.
It's the end of all things they announced their retirement few days ago. So bummed.
Such a shame. Reunion with Andy would be awesome. Never gonna happen but no harm in dreaming.
That would be cool! I went to High School with Andy, and remember the day he joined NMN. Saw them several times in Victoria as the original duo, then Andy joined after the Infamous Scientists days. So many good gigs back then!
+Tonefiend
This is news to me. I'm crying.
Eric Simonson wow dude that’s amazing! I was in 10th grade when 0+2 came out. I’ll never forget hearing the day everything played on Citr radio and I immediately had to figure out who it was and bought the LP right away. I had no idea what was coming and then listened to Wrong...haha.
Oh is many bands of their age play to a crowd of straight up kids. Speaks to their honesty. Kids can tell.
such a great band
Saw them in Tofino around 05/06. Best show I ever witnessed. The energy was insane.
incredible band
I’ve seen them many times.
The underground version of Rush.
Two thumbs and Two toes up!
with two lips, two lounges and one tongue
my fav polka band
Amazing, seen them 4 times. Not enough.
45 or more
Love this! Thanks so much!
Happy Bridge is exquisite on this video. The song gives me goosebumps (not the only NMN song though!)
Diosss como molan!!
Tienen un punto al Fugazi en este directo
Best Playlist!
The audio quality isn't great to today's standard, but boy, can these guys play! I've seen them live three or four times but it must have been at least 15 year s ago. I never ever got bored of their work.
The quality is perfect,u dono shit
Best gig og NMN that i have ever seen, on tube
! Thanks!!!!
if I remember well , ticket were10$ and I wondered how come they are so cheap to see, very generous band wherever they played. commodore, free at crab beach, 15$/20$ in Comox round 2012(last time I saw them, lucky me).still rockin!
Tight and loose at the same time 🥁🤟❤️🇨🇦🙂
If they were the DARK AGES when they wrote that, id love to know what they would call 2024!
I only heard this today, fml.
Cheers! Haven't seen these guys since Rob's 50th BD at the Rivoli.
you can get a pretty good burger from John at the wildwood pub in Powell River now. long live NMN
I was at this show!!
Always sharp.
Fuck yeah! Thank you for bringing this to my humble ass
I saw them in Amsterdam in 1993. Most manageable punk band I know.
Genius at work
ONE OF BEST BAND ON HEARTH
I like this new primus
Damn! I love it when dads rawk!
Wow these guys are great
What happened to the original guitar player from the laye 80s early 90s?
He lives in Amsterdam since he left the band, he plays in a duo there called Two Pin Din
this is the state of the most advanced form of philosophy today - 9-2020.
If there was ever a more talented drummer playing punk I'd like to know who it is.
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN,...THE BOY IN THE YELLOW HAT!
Great staff!
...it has no end...
Canada’s Fugazi 🤟❤️🇨🇦
One talented band punk or otherwise.
NoMeansNo fucking killing it as always!
