    Diana wearing dark/black at the end makes sense: she's in mourning. She knows that Steppenwolf attacked Themyscira, she doesn't know of the extent, but that certainly some of her sisters perished.

      Honestly, I felt so bad for her, Steppenwolf gaslighted her so hard, assuming he knew that she couldn't go back and check. Just the thought of living through years of missing your family and home, and then being lied to and told something horrible has happened to them. Even though you can feel like it's a lie, you still can't ever go and confirm for yourself and that unknowing just kills you. I honestly can't imagine how scary that must be.

  • @Pakilla64
    @Pakilla64 3 ปีที่แล้ว +66

    The way this film was originally shot wasn't meant to be color graded like Joss Whedon. Zack relies more on the lighting rather than color to make the characters pop, notice that he uses keylights and backlights in almost every shot so that the characters' physical features look sharp and crisp. There's a noticeable physical depth in the character. So it's not as simple as desaturating and turning up the contrast.
    Whedon simply removed all the shadows, cranked the saturation and added a blue tint. That's it.

    • @cjkalandek996
      @cjkalandek996 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      And I hated that. If he wanted to crank up the saturation, that's fine. Because I do like saturated color. But getting rid of all the shadows and contrast was the WORST thing he could've done for the image quality.

    • @northwindkey
      @northwindkey 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Whedon actually didn't add a blue tint, in fact he tuned down the blue and other cool colors from the initial Snyder-era 2016/Early 2017 trailers and replaced them with overly warm reds and oranges. ZSJL actually has more blues than Whedon's cut, but not as many blues as Snyder's original "compromised" cut which was weird to me. Like the March 2017 (Snyder) trailer had blue skies in the third act, while Joss made them orange and ZSJL makes them almost pure grey with a few blood red highlights (Apokalips fire and brimstone aesthetics I guess). It's a bit odd.

    • @Rogeras32
      @Rogeras32 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@cjkalandek996 problem is, you can't have something both overly saturated and heavy in contrast, you'll get yourself an Instagram reels filter. The fighter the contrast, the lower the saturation. And the opposite. Finding the balance is key, every colorists knows that. So I guess he had to conpensate the overblown saturation with reducing the contrast, especially in the lows. Or they just went with the whole "make it pop" bullshit. With that being said. Artistically the josstice League grading is shit.

The scene of Batman watching from afar in a construction site(I believe), if I heard it right, I think Junkie and Hans borrowed a slight music theme from Christopher Nolan's the dark knight trilogy, though I am not entirely sure, I just thought so because Batfleck's theme at that time sounded similar to the Batman's(Nolan's movie) iconic theme which is a great addition by the way in my opinion.

  • @benjamindepaz8429
    @benjamindepaz8429 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think Snyder’s color grading is better and more appropriate for the story. The over saturated colors really shows off the costumes, but it gives the overall movie a brighter more cheerful tone than what the story implies. And the Whedon color grade does make it look more cartoonish and goofy. Like the scene with the Amazonians being chased down. The bright and saturated color palette clashes with the sense of doom and danger the scene is supposed to convey. The overly saturated ending battle in Whedon’s version makes it again less serious than it should be and kind of makes it look like a video game cut scene. I will say though that there were places where the brighter colors would’ve been very appropriate- like the reunions scenes or the ending scene where Bruce buys the house back. Too much of a dark and cold color palette can get tiring if used the entire movie and doesn’t change even at the victory. I like when there is a tension and release approach - it gives a break and a sense of satisfaction for the journey that the viewer and character have been on. I also like movies that have a dark plot line, but I like them to end on a satisfying note that makes the experience feel worth it - and bright saturated warm colors at the end do that.

    Whedon’s color obliterates Snyder’s. It’s a movie about the Justice League. Tone-wise it’s way lighter than Snyder’s previous entries and the color pallet should reflect that

    Josstice League is one of the ugliest movies I’ve ever seen. It’s just one more way WB and Whedon destroyed this film.

    I'm not here to shit on Josstice League. There is enough of that to go around already (and fully justified). My problem with the color grade in the Josstice Cut isn't that it takes Snyder's more muted, moody, contrasty colors and makes them pop with brightness...it's just how CHEAP it all looks.
    I'm sure if they post production team had more time to work on the film, the brighter tones would look better. As it stands now...it's just ugly.
    People say Snyder's film are drab and too dark looking. I don't see how you can say that if you actually LOOK and absorb the frame.

    I think pretending that the Snyder cut is better at everything has a limit: yes, Whedon's color grading is too magenta and overexposed on purpose, and the reshot scenes are lit like a sitcom, but the new color grading is hideous. The first JL trailer, back when Zack was still around, is probably the perfect balance.

    Great effort trying to make Joss Whedon’s AWFUL color grading seem like an even halfway decent option, but nah, it objectively sucked. Everything was too bright and puffy and orange/red - it made everything look gross like it was wax or covered in sweat or something due to how it clashed with the true colors and tones, not to mention how badly it clashed with the story and world itself and all the movies that preceded it - and like you said countless times, it was OVERsaturated.

    Zack’s colours are too dark for me. It removes the definition needed on screen to appreciate the attention to detail. Look at when they disembark the Flying Fox, you can’t see the landscape or wildlife, the costumes don’t pop and Wonder Woman’s skin doesn’t even glow. It’s a shame because of the amazing cinematography and wardrobe the movie gives us.
    Joss’s edit actually feels like the superheroes are bringing some Heaven to earth. It’s bright and hopeful and the characters still feel real but divine; they are warm. I don’t think they need to be desaturated to make it gritty or down to earth because it’s comic book fiction and doesn’t need to be as serious as Lord of the Rings. Desaturation on pale skin is often a bad idea in my view and Cavill and Miller suffered from that creative choice but even on darker actors it can sometimes make them look clammy and muddy.
    That said, Zack clearly made the better movie but there was still dialogue and a few scenes in the theatrical cut which were actually better than ZSJL. What’s unclear is if those rewrites were Chris Terrio or Joss Whedon but good film making is good film making and no one director/writer/producer is the oracle of silver screen. Based on their past successes there’s a lot to learn from both Snyder and Whedon but the latter should’ve stuck to “necessary” rewrites and not disrespected Zack’s work or his actors.

      Because the beautiful shots in Josstice League were the scenes made by Snyder (left overs before he stepped out, approximately 30 minutes of scenes). Joss just added a different color grading. Credits for the "shots" (scenes) goes to Snyder.

      Exactly. They’re literally the same shots with different color grades. I didn’t use a single shot in this video that was different between the two. Only differences were vfx and color grade, but the shots remained the same
