I get the comments about the music but honestly, I like this tune. This video has a great "eighties" quality. It's crazy watching these two Porsches weave through traffic. Great stuff.
For everyone who is interested in those cars, i recommend to watch "Cockpit Special 1" and "Cockpit Special 2" from WB Video. The 1st DVD contains this footage (without music)among other cool onboard stuff from the ring in the season 1989. On the 2nd DVD you will find some awesome onboards laps from the Nordschleife, 935 in the dry and in the wet, RSR chasing BMW M1 and more. Quality ranges from average to very good.
What an Absolute kick to ride along with this Super 935 on a German Fast Racecourse. There are no such thing as a bad Porsche....just different or quicker. I've driven a super 930 Carrera, A Ruf tuned twin trubo, much above 500HP...and that group 5 car has 700+ and much more...what a machine !
An awesome Video, and a cool song by the same time as the Car. I enjoyed it tremendeously. Even if I agree that the music was a bit too loud. But nevertheless real talent behind the wheel. If you have please post more. Regards Harry from Munich
Nice to see the ol' 935 keeping up with the 993. From all accounts the 935 takes a lot of guts to drive at those speeds, especially with the gigantic single turbo.
If you watch it carefully, you will see the logo from the Tokai Team at the pilots helmet as well as on the other Porsche's tail. Footage is from VLN season 1989. The driver with the cam inside is named Jürgen Oppermann, the other one in front Otto Altenbach. Beside the two guys in the 935 there wasnt any other team which could match the pace that season. BTW: I bought the Original-DVD including onboard stuff from both guys. Believe me - BOTH guys are runnning 935 Bi-Turbo. :)
Nice kill! It was almost like the 935 driver was caught off guard when the 996 GT2RSR(?) Maybe GT2 650 EVO (Lord help me,, I am guessing from just what I see) ,,anyway,, and when the 996 flew by him,, it was like he loved the chase,, the challenge. It was a busy day at The Ring. There were a lot of slower backmarquers. I knew that once he hit Döttinger Höhe it would,,, all be over! DEAR GOD,,, I love Porsche's! ,,,deep down in my soul!
The Tokai 935 were fitted with 650-750 HP, depending on the manifold pressure. In the dry there wasn't any other car which could pass among these monsters. In the wet some RSR could keep the pace. To prepare the 935 for the Nordschleife, the car received a very soft suspension. Not many drivers were able to push the 935 to the limit. This car was at least as strange as the Rally Audi S1.
das stimmt, er wurde viel länger gefahren als bis 78. wird auch heute noch (aber selten) eingesetzt. doch offiziell und mit werksunterstützung nur bis etwas 1978
i loved every second of that, both amazingly quick ,great driving, especially throught so much traffic, but would like to know how much bhp,and considering it was both the new and old circuit...amazing.
Don't worry! There usually is a background music in most of motor racing clips, and Cerrone Supernature is not such a bad choice !Indeed 935 was supernatural... Btw,do you know what is the yellow orange light on the right side of the dashboard ? It's lightening time by time ...?? Thank you again for posting!
i thought BI turbo meant that there was a smaller for example a GT25 that was conected to the engine and that boost from the gt25 powered a t04 thats what i was told anyways
Hey.
I agree - music addons in race videos are bad habbit, although usual. I think this footage ist from the DVD "Cockpit Special 2" from WB Video. Use Google and you will find the shop to buy it. It further contains an onboard lap from the other guy. Not sure, but i`m afraid the original DVD contains that music too. 8:(
The other car was driven by his teammate Otto Altenbach in a second 935. In the dry under normal conditions there wasnt any other competitive car (that VLN season) who could beat either of the two Tukai's. Certainly in the wet the massive power of these monsters became less important.
its just that the rear spoiler dosent match any of the spoilers i remember the old 935`s had the porsche infront of him looks like its alot newer the tail lights are higher up that the old once it looks like something fromt he 90s but on the bi turbo thing i did not know i know they used twin turbo and single turbo but never heard of bi turboed cars but then again i havent done that much research in to the cars
Different cars - defferent lines - as usual! This car is monster unstable - only a couple of driver were able to handle it! Power, more power, most power, 935!
...oh well, you are right. I thought its a Video of a 935 "Turbo". That was confusing me :D cause the rear wing and the body looks more like an GT2 than an 935 Turbo...
There is a 20 years gap in set up,brakes, shifting gears and overall improvment,so obviously a GT3 should be faster at Nurb.but may be its driver was not up to the other one or was just having fun - anyw.cool video - thx!
Ok mate - some serious explanation. The driver ist Jürgen Oppermann, he set one of the fastest Ring laptimes ever in this car - watch the hotlap tables! It's simply the style to drive this type of car arround that extrem bumpy track on the limit. Remember also the 935 is a beast of a racecar. If you watch the video mindfully, you will see that way of driving ist much smoother on the GP circuit in the first part of the video. After the GP part tarmac changes dramatically.
funny thing: when i watched again, i suddenly had the (hopefully false :-D) impression that he was listening to the 80s trash disco music while driving. the volumes of engine and music fit perfectly, as if it was incar music ;-)
Is that a 993 GT3 he follows for the lap? I will admit I don't actually know if such a car exists, it just doesn't have the GT2's signature triangular wing intakes
If you like this stuff i prefer the DVD "Cockpit Spezial 2" from WB Video. You will find this footage (without music) and battles with some RSR in the wet . At the "Cockpit Spezial 1" you will find the Tokai Porsche's too.
The Car that Overtakes at 1:28 is NOT a 935, its a 993. Can tell by the tail lights and the exhaust coming out from the middle, as seen by the backfire.
The 935 really wasn't a driver's car, it was only about power and grip. The car was fitted with a 4-step-gearbox, about 200 kph in 2nd gear, lol. This Porsche was a dog - strange rough handling and really hard to push it to the limit. One reason were the huge bi-turbos build in these days, the torque went in quite suddenly. If the boost came up, the car went almost straight foreward like a rocket, lol. 8)
there's no 993 involved. both cars are the same 935's built by DP Motorsport. Google it and you'll find the makers site. Go to 'Gallerie' and then check 'Rennauto's'. You will there also find a picture of the Tokai Porsche driving in front
No ... if you notice, not only lights up when changing gears. I'm not sure, but it might be the light of the "under-turbo", that comes on when the engine speed is below the one where the turbo comes into.
+mssmmgnn so it maybe tells to floor the pedal when the light is on and the turbo not on rpm, then when the light gets out you know to release the throttle to let the beast not get wild :D
+wasuprobleemjoh Yea, something like. And for sure in a track like Nurburgring would be not...cautious, exiting a corner, to send the turbo in overboost, especially with a 935 or a car like. The best pilot wouldn't be able to control the powerslide.
Porsche 996=1999-2004 You wrote: "Nice kill! It was almost like the 935 driver was caught off guard when the 996 GT2RSR(?)" and "and when the 996 flew by him" Am I reading this wrong?
The pilot is good, really. Quick reflexes, which need with a Porsche, and he seems to be very familiar with the track. Not to mention that's no easy to drive in the middle of so many slower cars... Too bad for two things: the lack of definition of the video, and, above all, the really obnoxious background music ... what was the need?
many of these cars later on were sold to other teams & owners, and they usually run lower boost on these huge KKK turbos... Remember, these cars were capable of 800-900bhp. he shouldn't be running more than 500 on it. cool video though!!
And there is background music on this why? The real music are the flat cut gears and twin turbo flat-six. I have to give it 2-stars because of the music, otherwise it would be a 5-star.
I get the comments about the music but honestly, I like this tune. This video has a great "eighties" quality. It's crazy watching these two Porsches weave through traffic. Great stuff.
Porsche 935 is the best racing Porsche ever built!!! Perfect car!
What a Cracking Vid!!
The 935 is a real animal drive and this one was driven in traffic to perfection!
I just had to watch this again. What an amazing video. Keep them coming Easy!!!
Imagine, to be that close to your opponent throughout the ENTIRE lap! AMAZING!!!
For everyone who is interested in those cars, i recommend to watch "Cockpit Special 1" and "Cockpit Special 2" from WB Video. The 1st DVD contains this footage (without music)among other cool onboard stuff from the ring in the season 1989.

Incredible driving and footage!
Porsches and Nordschleife: There is a better combination?
Amazing driving and footage!!
6 stars.
Magnificent, great car, very good driver, as u can see, little can compare
Is that Mansell?!?!?!
Awesome :D
This car must be a challenge! He made a real good job in this turbo-rocket
Man that was AWESOME!
Those Moby Dicks looked sooo powerful and extremely dangerous, like handling on the edge at every single corner. Wheew!
The track looks like such a handful. And very bumpy.
AMEN! I would have had the volume up louder if not for the music. Two of my favorite things, porsches and the nurburgring.
Driving masterpiece.. both pilots, especially on a vicious car like that...
Thanks Easy007
The best part 8:40 on is just boooosssstttttt and then he looks over at the other guy as he passes him at about 250km/h.
Awesome driving.
Geniales Video...
An awesome Video, and a cool song by the same time as the Car. I enjoyed it tremendeously. Even if I agree that the music was a bit too loud. But nevertheless real talent behind the wheel.

It's a twin turbo with motronic

2 Great drivers
Thought the music was cool, suits the era and the title is an apt expression for how awesome the driving was and how much better those Porsche's were
the ultimate racing car. ever.
GT2 in the year 1989 - really funny mate! 8)

What a monster!
It's Jürgen Oppermann, a german driver in the VLN series
May be he's a fan of the Lion ;)
Nice Knight Rider Music.............
beautiful tour of the German countryside

Now these guys are racing.

Uh..that music! It makes me dance like a dingleberry
The person who really knew how to shuffle a 935 was Rolf Stommelen.. may he rest in peace..
Accordingly to MoSponiac, the driver is Jürgen Oppermann (the guy with "Mansell's" helmet). Amazingly, despite of his name, he is British!
Best Nurburgring video on TH-cam!!
Excellent driving... i liked the music part :-) old time disco...
one question: The gear box has 4 gears or 6 ??
4
thanks for that,il look it up..

no, hes following the exact type of car we can ride with... both cars are porsche 935 Turbos build by DP-Motorsport.
Fing amazing

Absolute quality!
I just knew he'd slipstream the other 935 along the final straight!
;o)
Not bad for a little, old 2.8 engine, is it?

maybe that was in his radio... :D
No problem - catch vol.1 + vol 2. from WB Video...

Thx for kind reply - (and congrats for your profile)?=
I tried to but I couldn't find any piece of information about Mansell driving sports cars. So, does anyone know who this guy is?
Ahhh Guys, the other car our 935 driver was chasing most of the time was infact another 935, not a newer GT3.
Both cars are 935's - driven in the same team. 8-)
never mind i stand corrected mosponiac send the the pics of the porsche that passed the 935
Dont know, but could be turbo pressure.
hey its a video of someone driving a 935 correctly
there's no 993 involved. both cars are the same 935's built by DP Motorsport.
Google it and you'll find the makers site. Go to 'Gallerie' and then check 'Rennauto's'. You will there also find a picture of the Tokai Porsche driving in front
@Threeload Well said mate!
yeah,he got the bugger,at the end!!!
Huh, 996s were out in the '80s?
Is that Nigel Mansell????? O_O
I love the 935 but I stopped watching the video 5 seconds into it because of the music...I want to here the TT flat-six not some asinine music.
is this a 935 k3?
What? Do you know your Porsche codes?
This may be a dumbass question but....what's the orange light on the switch panel that keeps lighting up when he chages gear?
No ... if you notice, not only lights up when changing gears. I'm not sure, but it might be the light of the "under-turbo", that comes on when the engine speed is below the one where the turbo comes into.

Ok, you are right! He is german indeed.
So, do you (or anyone here) know why his helmet shows the british flag?
The pilot is good, really. Quick reflexes, which need with a Porsche, and he seems to be very familiar with the track. Not to mention that's no easy to drive in the middle of so many slower cars...

mansell helmet?
In 1989 wasnt any GT2 car mate... ;-) Much, much, much, later...
How is called music?
Pitty you did not have a photo fro outside the car.
935 is from the 70`s that car infront is not a 70`s carthe tail lights are far from the same the recording looks like something from the early 90`s
the newer porsche is realy pushing to keep the 935 behind him
MoSponiac is right. Indeed it's a 930 Turbo of Tokai team. Try looking for it on internet and you will see he's right.
much more Power 935 Turbo ;)
i dont get all the complaints about the music. i think it matches :)
many of these cars later on were sold to other teams & owners, and they usually run lower boost on these huge KKK turbos...
Remember, these cars were capable of 800-900bhp.
he shouldn't be running more than 500 on it.
cool video though!!
What do you know any better?
LoL. I thought it too.
Awesome car, ruined by the music played over it. Can't we just get an unedited onboard lap of this legendary machine?
A little busy steering. Not super lines.
And there is background music on this why? The real music are the flat cut gears and twin turbo flat-six. I have to give it 2-stars because of the music, otherwise it would be a 5-star.
