Fun Fact: the 919 Evo had auto-upshift. The revs climbed so fast that the drivers couldn't keep up with the upshifts, so they had a mode that they had programmed to command perfect upshifts every time while the MGUs are deploying.
2000s F1 cars had that too for the same reason
It also had brake-actuated torque vectoring, based on a track map of the circuit it was running on.

Porsche basically took an endurance racer and turned it into the ultimate time attack weapon, and I love them for it.
Porsche using 50% of their power and the result is the 919 Evo.

not to take anything away from them but a completely unrestricted F1 car engineered specifically for time attack at the Ring would demolish the Evo's time

I know i am late but: thats basically what was the case during the record run with this car. The driver said that there was quite some potential in the car to be quicker but he just wasn't physically capable. Absolutely bonkers
Never forget. The driver admitted that there was so much more time in the car, but the Gs were too severe for a human to endure. That’s the fastest a trained and experienced race car driver could go while seeing black at the corner of his vision. The bleeding edge of cars

Yeah when you look at the in-cockpit cam in the video and how he's tumbling all over the place while being strapped firmly in his seat, it's terrifying. The G's in corners are one thing, but with how bumpy the track is to go all out at those speeds takes balls as heavy as a neutron star.
thats not true the driver did a podcast where he talked about how there was only little more time left in the car(1-2 seconds). Its basically and internet myth that he could have been much faster.
Not just the Gs, the bouncy ground effects is also VERT taxing on the driver's body

I remember reading an account from the driver about either the 'Ring lap or Spa lap (think it was Timo Bernhard), and he said that the lap was more limited by what his own body was capable of rather than what the car could do.

I always called BS on that one. Both guys were killing it in their hot laps. I highly doubt that there was much more in it. Maybe a second or two, but not more.
F1 went faster at Spa the very next year
Correction: Vettel and Hamilton did 1:41.5 in Q2 2018. Hamilton did a 1:41.2 in Q3 2020.

@@hansdomke89 Basically he once drove in a snow covered version of the Nordscheife and this was the only tree that was still green, refusing to be covered in snow.

I watched this break the lap record at brands hatch whilst suffering from. Battery issues and only putting out half its maximum power lol
It was a tenth off the outright record, which is held by Driver61, Scott Mansell, in a '97 Benetton, even with all those issues. Not quite a record but they were also doing an exhibition run, not a full send quali lap. Engineers said it had 1-2 seconds in it easy if they optimized for one glory run.

The fact that you did a 4:58 on your first go is a credit to RSS making the car not only realistic but drivable and communicative.
As much as it's insane to see you do this in a sim -- it just blows my mind to smithereens that a human can put a car like that round a track like the ring with almost no margin for error and with life and limb on the line.... i just do not know how people like that can exist. Talent beyond extremes

A lot of people forget or don't know that at it's core, Porsche is a ENGINEERING company. This is exactly why they dominate in Motorsports and can produce such crazy cars like the 919 EVO. Imagine what they might be able to do if they really focused on building a factory F1 team and then took the shackles off that F1 car!

Jimmer, in case you're reading this, thanks for helping me realize what I want to do in sim racing. I experienced some burnout doing hotlaps and trying to get faster and faster. Today I downloaded my first real life car, a shitty Opel Corsa, in AC and took it around the Nordschleife. That was by far the most fun I've had in sim racing.
I love the fact that the song you had playing in the background at 1:15 was Raise a curtain (Card Check) from the 2003 Nintendo GameCube game F-Zero GX. And just for that, I'm liking this video.
Jimmy I am calling you out now, Do Le Mans in this car, I would love to see you crack the 2 minute 30 second barrier in this car! at the Circuit De La Sarthe!

They should do a one off F1 car, zero restrictions. Full engine and engine power, unlimited aero, suspension packages, basically do what they hell they want. It would be amazing to see.

They likely won't do it, but can you imagine what an F1 car with the same zero rules could do? Ground and aero, no pesky engine, fuel or tyre regs. Mind you, think it would be too terrifying and dangerous to try lap anything.
Newey's X series cars were meant to be that. Hopefully he'll do another.
I no wonder about this craziest machine by Porsche because they already built ultimate hi-tech Porsche 959 in 1986.
During the very first confinement in England, i played asseto corsa on my laptop for the first time and discovered this car. I then proceeded to try and drive it fast without crashing everywhere because it was so fast. Finally managing to run the Nordshleife fast without crashing was the most satisfying thing. Even using a controller and on a 15 inch screen, the feeling of speed was unbelievable. I need to try again on my new Desktop with this fantastic new car. :D
Accurate title would be "The Experimental Prototype That Made Formula 1 Look Slow (until the next time F1 got to Spa and was faster again" lol
Imagine doing 3h race with this car. You would probably be more limited by cooling your brain than the car.
Technically it's faster than every F1 car except the Mercedes W11. Around Spa Franchorchamps anyway, the W11 lapped in a 1:41.2. About 5 tenths faster than the 919 Evo. Considering the W11 (And all F1 cars) was rear wheel drive only with no traction control, that's pretty impressive.
The driver couldn't drive it any faster from what I heard because the car was absolutely destroying him because of the G Forces, but I do believe it is in the same league as the W11.

The irl hot lap video actually made me a bit shaky. Just seeing how fast it was changing direction. And in the back straight it felt like it wasn’t going to stop accelerating haa.
Honestly, I wish there was a "no rules" class. Not like _actual_ no rules but just no performance limits. You're allowed to do whatever you want as long as you're not running a death trap or something that's literally wider than the track itself, or running weapons. I know we technically had that with Group B Rally and we do with hill climbing, but those are different environments to a prepared course. Plus, those rulesets still require vehicles to have wheels and conventional wheel-driven drivetrains. I'm talking about creating a class with jet engines, ground effect vehicles (downforce, hovercraft or ekranoplans), any number of wheels, any vehicle layout, open, closed or no wheels, just... go crazy. Doesn't have to be competitive, and honestly I think it would be best off as an exhibition class.
If anyone is wondering that blue camera to the drivers right is a racelogic vbox which is an epic data logger/camera setup used by amateurs and factory teams alike!

Great driving but I have to teach you some history lessons, son, in 1983 Stefan Beloff broke the record in qualifying for the 1000km Nürburgring with a time of 6'11" in a Porsche 956. Timo Bernhard only broke that record in 2018 in a Porsche 919 Evo with a time of 5'19" .Nick Heidfeld drove his F1 in 2011 and it would certainly be the fastest lap and also Carlos Sainz in Ferrari F1 last year with time of 5'06" , so there is nothing faster than an F1 car, my son!;-)
How does the AI handle it? Would be interesting see a 20 car race, last to first challenge :)
It’s slower than the W11 on Spa and spa is a high speed circuit, im pretty sure that the W11 would be faster around nurburgring too so it definitely didn’t make f1 look slow

I know that F1 (Hamilton?) broke the lap record this car set at Spa the very next season, I'd LOVE to see Merc produce an EVO version of the W11 or W12 to let us see what a weapon they could really make with the gloves off with regards to fuel, battery, regen and deploy etc.
The craziness that is the Porsche 919 Evo, my favorite mad man creation of modern day by far, I didn't hear about it until my friend found a video of the damn thing, I dont even know if it was real life or not cause of how quickly the perspectives were changing, but the shit looked cartoony, it looked fake because of how quick it was going around a corner, I physically said when I saw it, If I'm gonna die, I wanna die behind the wheel of that thing, even if it may ruin such a masterpiece of a car. Unironically though, the damn thing is the real life equivalent of the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento Forza Edition from Forza Horizon 5, cant be kept up with, accelerates way too damn well, brakes with such ease and can slow down so late, all while handling better than a damn F1 car, absolute fucking magnificence.

Porsche built the 919 Evo to send a message... also this, like the X2010, triggered my vertigo and thus was reduced to watching with a single eye, but it was beautiful.
I bought this car, did two laps in it and my brain and eyes were dead after that. Everything after the carousel just felt like its 2x forwarded or something
Now you have to try and beat it with the Mercedes W12 to see what's the fastest IRL Sim Racing Car.
Last summer I went to Germany and had to visit the Porche museum… That car was there… I just can’t describe the feeling of nearly touching that beast… Just unforgettable

There is a great mod for this car from a while ago, shame you didnt try that one also but this one was worth the wait 100%. That mod also had the sound mod which was pretty much the same as this. Great job mate.
Letting the mechanics/engineers go ham on this was the best decision Porsche ever made. They have made one of the most insane LMP1 cars ever, and I condone it.
It looks like that Jackie Chan movie 'Thunderbolt' where all the motor racing parts are played at 2x speed to make the cars look faster. But this one actually is that fast.
I think Jimmy should dig thru history at some of the prototypes of old. Some old proto's were so wild they weren't allowed to test on circuits. Chapparel is a great place to see some crazy ideas.
Now let’s take off the shackles of an F1 car for apples to apples race. I think we know what would happen. F1 would kill it.

Thats a lie the 919 might be faster in the straights but still couldn’t match the F1 turning in the end we should respect both motor sports.
One screw up in the real world, you're definitely history. I don't think the most advanced safety features could save you. There might be some survivable accidents with the latest in cockpit strength and safety, but coming to a sudden stop at those speeds is something the human body isn't good for. I still wanna launch it around the Nordschleife though.
There's been an update a while back for this car that gives it headlights, so you can drive it at night and in the rain too 🙂 They're not a permanent change though, you can take them off in the setup, as well as the wiper

The LMP1 cars were essentially cheat codes in some games. It doesn't matter what you throw at it, this car takes the corner flat and stupidly quick. They drove on rails and like jets. These are incredible machines. I watched the final race between the 919 and the TS050, Toyota's LMP1. These cars are absurd, and just rocket ships with how fast they get up to speed. I encourage you to go watch the WEC and how fast the LMP1 cars get up to speed in comparison to everyone else.
The category died because these programs were also absurdly expensive. This lead to a lack of competition as both Audi and Porsche ended their programs, and left Toyota against a bunch of Privateer teams. They were not slow, but the cars fielded against the Hybrid TS050 literally were racing in another category. It became a battle of who comes 3rd. The Hypercar class was born in 2021 in small part to encourage more competition as its much cheaper now since the rules aren't as rigid in terms of what you had to run.

The lap records set by the unlimited 919 on circuits F1 cars raced on were overwritten by F1 cars again shortly after. For example the Porsche did 1:41.77 at Spa, but only a few months later in 2018 Vettel's Ferrari did a 1.41.5 in qualifying. By 2020 the F1 pole time was lowered again by Hamilton's Mercedes which did a 1.41.25. That's HALF A SECOND FASTER than the Porsche! The very fact a legal trim F1 car in qualifying, still fuel flow restricted managed to beat a 919 that was completely no holds barred and not regulated is credit to how astonishingly fast modern F1 cars are. Imagine if the F1 car could similarly have unlimited fuel and boost as well as illegal downforce appendages like the 919 Evo. They would be seconds faster again.
Imagine what jimmy could do when he's fully focused and no talking he can defentley going 1 or 1,5 seconds faster
Finally, a proper 919 Evo. And at 4 quid, it's a steal
I don't want Porsche to bring back the 919 Evo. I want them to make an insane version of the new 963. Also Cadillac, Ferrari, Toyota, etc. Let's just have the manufacturers go nuts.
