watching your video makes me very sad because for many years i have been struggling with thoughts in my head that i shouldn’t even try to continue drawing because there will always be someone who does it better and has a richer imagination. unfortunately, at the moment i really want to just sit down with a piece of paper and draw, but i just can’t enjoy the process and start crying lol. but it was very interesting to watch you, i wish you good luck in your work and may the muse never leave you, very beautiful drawing :)
reading your comment makes me sad too :( i think when drawing/painting we should really do it for ourself and to get things out of our system. but i can really relate to what you said about the urge to draw and then sit in front of a page and nothing happens, or at least nothing satisfying, and all the inspiration that was there is suddenly gone.. i've been there many times and for sure will be in the future. all the best for you and keep drawing 🌱 thanks for watching too 🩷
I feel you love! What really helped me was studying other artists art, trying to create something similar and asking myself why I like it. Do i like the colors they use? The overall aesthetic, the subject, do you like drawing life or fantasy, get your favorite artists and learn from them, eventually something unique will appear. You got to stop focusing on what you’re not doing and focus on things you like. I remember not having a clue on what to draw, and just started drawing what i saw on my daily life, a box, a duck, a boat whatever. Until it became fun and pushed myself to draw more complicated things. Art isn’t just random imagination that people come up with by themselves, it’s inspiration they get from life, from things they like, from other artists, from movies, from music, etc. Break things down when you watch other people draw, and practice it yourself. Like in this video they are doing a stylized portrait, then he thins the paint down with water probably and paints the whole drawing down as a base color, then he paints the background with a opaque color, then he starts painting the face with a “glazing” technique. To improve you got to practice and you must enjoy it. Good luck!! ❤
@@Angie_flores thank you for your advice and nice words, but unfortunately i tried everything you said and nothing helped me at all. at one point i decided to concentrate on drawing things that i love very much and things that evoke strong emotions in me (my two cats), but that didn’t work either. i am a person who rarely expresses strong emotions, but the thought of drawing causes me strong aggression that i cannot control, the last time it all ended with me throwing a lot of materials and more than 400 drawings into the trash :) for the last six months or so i’ve been trying to analyze why a hobby that used to give me so much pleasure is now more like a terrible torture that lasts more than 5 years. it all started with the fact that i never attended drawing courses or lessons, initially I was happy with all my works, even though they were crooked and i didn’t have enough skills in this matter. but later i realized that i couldn’t transfer the work in ideal form onto a sheet from the image that had formed in my head and it began to irritate me greatly, i began to practice a lot but realized that despite all this it is very difficult for me to perceive such things as overlay shadows, angles of objects and my brain simply does not perceive this information. also the biggest problem is that i don’t forgive even the slightest mistakes and constantly scold myself, i don’t remember the last time i thought “good job, it turned out very beautiful.” i'm sorry, it's a lot of text🤡🤌
@@meownapomash It's okay to create things that aren't incredible - it's great even! It'll help you grow as an artist, if you accept failure and mistakes as part of the process of being one. Just make a bunch of terrible, horrible art and learn what you can from your mistakes. I'm still learning to "fail faster" as it were. I relate to how difficult it is to get over that hump and put aside the perfectionism impulse. I also think, from what you're saying, it sounds like you're putting way too much pressure on yourself to be amazing at art and it's killing your love for the craft. One of the worst things about being an artist is how that little voice in your head - the one that tells you you're not actually THAT good and you will never be enough - never goes away completely. It stays with you no matter how professional or solid of an artist you become. You just learn to let it be eventually. It's hard, but it's doable. You're also putting pressure on yourself to be the Best artist, but unfortunately, there's always going to be someone better than you, ones with better technique and richer imaginations. As a matter of fact, there will always be someone better than me! And better than the youtuber we're watching. But that doesn't make me appreciate this art any less, nor would it make others appreciate YOUR art any less, I guarantee it. There are so, so many skilled and talented artists in the world that exist in the past, present, and future, that it would be an utterly impossible competition. In short, I think the reason it's so hard for you to engage with art without feeling sad is because you have a strong, admirable desire to be a great artist, which can have side effects like perfectionism and comparing yourself to others. Oh, and the way you perceive things is actually totally, 100% normal. The reason art is so darn hard is because our brains are programmed to write over information we see so that we can visually process the world around us at quick speed. The processing is mostly subconscious so we don't spend every precious drop of energy actively noticing all the little undertones in objects, the angles, the shadows, the way lighting plays on skin, etc. That makes observing the world *as it is, not how we think it is* really difficult, and most non-artists can't even do it at all. We're fighting against a very strong current, here. Anyway, I hope this helps you in some way. Being an artist is hard on one's psyche because creating is inherently vulnerable, you're exposing yourself and your abilities to the world. It's difficult to do that without feeling nervous or like you're in competition, but I think part of an artists journey is learning how to do that. You got this! I truly hope you can learn to love art again and start creating.
@@nicolelincoln4223 thank you for your kind words, although this is an obvious fact, it’s very nice to remind yourself that you are not alone and we all face the same problems, sometimes it is forgotten and it seems that you are the only one such a wrong defective person who does not succeed in anything, while others move forward and enjoy life. to be honest, it’s not even about drawing, I just don’t have any positive emotions left. for a long time I tried to suppress the thought that for myself I am the most uninteresting person without enthusiasm and big plans for life, I never had a goal to which I would strive, I am interested in absolutely nothing and this fact led me into a state of apathy that now controls my consciousness. because of this, I had a hyperfixation on drawing, the feeling of comfort and nostalgia made me hooked and not let go of it. sometimes I think what was the point of being born into this world if your brain so badly wants you not to exist and considers itself superfluous on this planet. It may sound too dramatic, but I’m still here only because I decided to raise two cats, caring for them keeps me in this life, but over time it doesn’t get easier and the thoughts in my head are getting louder. the conversation about art turned into a free appointment with a psychologist, I think I’ll stop and won’t continue, thank you again for this short conversation that I so badly needed :)

This painting is so beautiful! I adore your color choices especially. I work with watercolor so watching your process with acrylics and seeing the similarities and differences is fascinating.
So amazing. I’m amazed by your precision. Have you heard of a malstick? The old masters used to use one so they didn’t have to lean their hand on the canvas for stability - highly recommend! (You can make one at home too) 🩵

i do it to make the colors underneath more cohesive, or at least i try to achieve this 😅 but i have to say, yes it's a bit nerve wracking in the beginning. just mix your paint with a thinning medium and let's go.. you can always wipe away excess paint. thanks for watching 🩷
