DeJesus, I want to thank you for this very helpful video. You are a very good and patient teacher. I like that your teaching style is not rushed and you not only explain things very well, but you enunciate so that people like me can hear and understand you. I have been watching your videos and am working up the courage to paint a Baltimore Ravens themed pair of Airforce 1s for my husband for Christmas.
(I am currently a 63 year old Grandmom who paints rocks for my grandson.)
I will continue to watch your great videos and hopefully one day I will be able to share with you a video of shoes that I have painted, with inspiration from my new teacher, named DeJesus.
I wish you well in all that you do. Sincerely, Diana
That's awesome that you're painting shoes at 63! Bet your husband loved it! (I'm a bit late to the reply I know).
an in depth video like this was definitely needed!! awesome!
as for the swoosh: i like to put my hand/finger inside the shoe and actually lift up the swoosh a little, getting under the swoosh to guarantee no spills!
Oooh that’s a great tip!
THANK YOU!!! So glad to finally have some new stuff to try out. I am not a very talented artist but I definitely enjoy painting shoes. I get teased alot with how much time it takes me to prep shoes. Hahaha...it's all good for me though it has been fun even though I am not good at all with painting any objects. It doesn't matter to me though censored I just enjoy every step of the process. I am really grateful for your videos. Thank you very much
Rock on brother
I love the videos keep them coming, I love coming back from school to relax and watch your videos
bro you such a g,, inspiring a new generation of shoe customisers
waiting for my angelus paints to come in :) I’m going to give customizing a try :)
Yh how did it go?
How’d it go?
I'm waiting for mine too... So excited 😁 to try this
Good for you
same me too!
Nah this is the best tutorial out there 🙏 you guys are killing it 🔥
I seriously appreciate your videos, did just junk throw away shoes to practice, but couldnt find a tape that stuck to either the sock liner or the midsole, BUT thanks to this video, itll all be here monday! i appreciate your tutorials man
That tape is a 10/10 on the thickness scale
wade gives it a 9/10
This Video is going to help my time management when taping 🤣👌 Thanks for sharing your tips!!🙏
I've just recently stumbled across your videos, but I've probably watched 30 in the last 3 days and you have really inspired me to give custom shoes a shot, even if it's just for myself. You're awesome and you're videos are so educational, thank you so much!
Glad you’re digging the videos !
Thanks a million. That sock liner has been murder until now.
Just noticed this was posted on my birthday. Thanks for these videos!
Just getting in to customization and I'm trying to teach my self. So I'm so geeked for your customers course!
idk how I haven't found this video yet but it's a life saver thank you
All of your videos are 🔥🔥 thanks for the game bro.
Sick video! Super helpful tips that I didn’t realize I needed. The tape used on the sock liner is a game changer and I’ve seen you use it many times and have perfect results. The best customizer on TH-cam!
Appreciate your support!
Man I’m doing my first shoe restoration and tapeis absolutely vital. A cheap tape will allow paint to bleed through, leave residue and tear paint, so investing in good tape is worth it.
Just scored some triple white Jordan 1 low Golf shoes at the outlet store for $98. Unreal price. Can't wait till my paint gets here
Very helpful! I found another EXCELLENT tape that I personally use for the sock lining with is the nexcare waterproof medical tape( light brown in color)! I’ve been using for some months and it leaves no residue and sticks for days, you should give it a try!
Great stuff!
Really appreciate your channel. Taught me so much about how to customize my shoes.
🤙🏽🤙🏽
I love watching your videos. I'm not into customizing shoes yet because I don't have the finances and things are pretty expensive in my country. But I plan on saving so I can start. Keep up the good work 👍🏼
I'm new to this but your videos are 🔥 and super informational 🤯🤯🤯
Ps. I watched this in vr mode.😂😂 It was fire with the close up shots you guys did🔥
Oooooooh I gotta try that !
Videos are always inspiring! I know to always learn something new on this channel. Keep doing it!
I love these videos!!! Thanks for sharing these tips with us.
Thanks for tuning in!
I just got a commissioned opportunity to customize shoes. Thank you for this video
Congrats! Excited for you
Very usefull ! Especially for the gaffer tape, I was worry to use it cause of potential residues
I've found some specialty tapes at the big box home repo store, like the metal duct tape that comes with a backing paper, is super thin, very strong adhesive but peels off without leaving residue, and conforms to any curve. And in electrical is a super thin rubber tape, good adhesive and super flexible. This is not regular vinyl electrical tape.
can u please make a kobe tribute custom😔😔
He did already I think
He already did next month
This was rly important here right?
Thank u. I been looking for a good video on maskin. 🙏🏿🏆🎉🎊
Thank You for this video! The tips you have discussed seem easy to follow and I cannot wait to apply them.
Yes thank you so much I wanted a in depth taping tutorial so bad
love your vids bro, just started customizing, you made it a hole lot easier!!!!!
Hope that seminar was a hit, cause I'd like to hear of another one, possible closer to MD...lol..but if you have one pls let me know where I can find the info.thank you so much for the knowledge you've shared so far😜
🙌🏽🙌🏽
The content is great keep up the great work
I fuqz wit chu my dude. I wanna be just like you when I grow up. Thanks for all the tips bro
Hey @DeJesus, Thanks for the video, Unfortunately I was a little late to this video as I have already used the 1st tape and the adhesive residue is as bad as you mentioned. Can you please tell how to remove it. I have tried a couple of things but they are not working.
You want a glue and residue eraser!
Damn I am so glad this is going to be in Chicago🤩 APRIL WYA?!

Thx man your helping sooo much

I needed to watch this video thank you!!!
Thanks for tuning in!
Wow your amazing at this!
Also a quick question if your able to answer. Are you able to use posca paint pens for shoes like will they last? Or should you only use the paint your using?
I only recommend paint personally
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear ok thank you
Have you thought of using a clear wax barrier just thought of possibilities for airbrushing
Yup have experiment with some.. haven’t found any that fully did the job
Ima give this customizing shoes a try, about to buy a starter kit.
I've found your videos too be very informative. Purchased black suede Puma classics were on display model and noticed fading. Ordered Angelus black suede dye. What tape should I use in protecting all around white sole?
Thank you! We’ve got the tapes linked in the description of the video, I still use these same ones
Thanks so much for uploading ❗️
Great video !
You are amazing, bro.
Thank you!
Hi. I just started with customisation on my shoes and I feel like I followed the instructions correctly but I wore one of the pairs, airforce 1s. The paint had now cracked in areas where it makes creases. How can I stop this from happening. Do you have a video on how to prevent the cracks?
Yup check this one out!

Another great video!!! I was wondering which video you mention sanding the shoes for prep work. I cant seem to find it. Thank you!
It’s called custom Air Force 1, with a pair of all whites in the thumbnail
You sir are a legend!
CLUTCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for making this video. 🙏 u got a new subscriber
Everyone loves a geometric tape line
Loving this video. I been having problems find a good tape for sock liners. Defo going to make a purchase thanks 👊🏿
as usually a great video
Thank you!!
EPIC EPIC EPIC 🤟🏽💙💪🏽
Thanks bro! This helped aLOT
Man I like you art work, one day I will reach out to you for a custom.
Thanks for this video👌🏽💯
Great tutorial, and thank you.
To cover the soles I use the 7 inch tape paper for automotive painting. It doesn't take much tape and its cheaper than using the 3 inch wide strips to cover the whole sole
That’s dope! 7 is a little big for me, 3 works great for soles and stencils
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear true it does leave a bit of extra coverage but it comes in handy when doing Tims or bigger soles
Yeah that’s awesome I dig it, there’s so many cool comparisons from automotive painting to custom kicks
My taping on my sock liner moved while I was airbrushing so I got some red/blue paint on my white sock liner, any tip to clean that up? Thanks
There’s certainly a chance you’re just gunna have to paint over it with one of those colors. But you can try acetoning it out
This is so cool
Thanks for the tips bro!!!!
Thanks for tuning in my dude!
I'd love to see how that Bape custom turned out
Another amazing video and so many great tips thank you! By the way, any advice for me I'm new to customizing and it seems like I have a hard time getting a perfect line with the green tape between upper and midsole. I always have spots that are wavy I want to get that crisp line if possible. Thanks for all you guys do yo help us new customizers and good luck with the TH-cam award I voted for sure.
Yeah my best tip is really just making sure that you go back and apply a lot of pressure on the tape with your fingernail to really get it pressed down hard
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear Thank you so much! Really happy for you and the nim
nomination for the award you deserve it no doubt. Thank you for being such an amazing inspiration have a wonderful evening,
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear By the way can you recommend someone who can make some custom tongue tags for me, please? Thanks again for all you do blessings.

DeJesus Custom Footwear thank you very much you guys are awesome
Are the heat vinyl stick ons the seem as the ones you can put on tshirts
It really depends what youre asking about. Heat transfer vinyl is what is commonly used on shirt application. But if youre asking what vinyl is used to paint on shoes and them remove - thats not heat transfer vinyl
Great video I was just looking for a video about this exact thing but quick question what about vans what is the best tape to use
I use same exact stuff for all pairs! I would say a lot of people do enjoy the red vinyl tape on vans though
I needed this
Thanks for watching!
Great info and tips! I've always hated using the medical tape...
This is a two-part question. Question-1. How long do you wait typically before taping up a painted part to start painting around it? Question 2- do you recommend a specific tape to place on top of a painted part? As opposed to one that hasn’t been painted over yet? 😊
Great question. The more time the merrier of course, but at bare minimum id be shooting for at least 20 minutes. As long as the shoes were prepped and painting correctly you won't have to worry as much about paint peeling. So something like that green scotch 2060 would still be my go to or the beige scotch 2020
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear thank you for taking the time in answering my questions. :)
Can you use the green scotch tape on the shoe and the swoosh as well
Yeah absolutely!
did you do a video on how you keep the paint from being removed or bleeding off the shoe?
Yup that’s all about your prep work! Check our video called custom Air Force 1
DeJesus Custom Footwear thank youuuuuuuu 😁😁
Great video
What about unmasking, I'm having issues with paint coming off when I take the tape off.
Usually thats a prep issue since the paint isnt bonding correctly! Not typically due to the tape.
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear I'm going to have to keep experimenting then.
@@ludwingardon yup sanding is usually the step that will prevent this
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear thank you!
Some great tips wright there brilliant video as well, personal question I'm customizing my own off white air force 1 mca blue colour and seriously I could knock myself out I left the top of my bottle of deglazer and it went on my toe box and it's noticable I'm trying to find a mixture of anjelus paint I can match upto any idea's? any help would be greatly appreciated many thanks 👍👍👍👍
I know it’s a lot of light blue and violet then some sapphire
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear ooooooh woooow really OK I'll have to get the colours wish me luck 😂😂😂😂 thanks for the reply appreciated 👍👍👍👍
Is this the waterproof and the most important is how long this color will stay
As long as you prep them correctly you’re good to go!
Me being the novice I was, I used bad tape that left a lot of residue, and furthermore used duct tape on the sole when I went into do my sealer. (Don’t worry I did this with Walmart dupes 😂) Do you have any recommendations for how to remove tape residue efficiently? I’ve tried a few things and am now carefully using acetone. Just wanted to see if you (or anyone in the comments section) had some advice for me 😅
Yes pickup a glue & residue eraser, it will greatly help you!
This is a much less professional method, but oil or rubbing alcohol. Only as a last resort though. If you try it, I would test a very small amount of either substance on the residue to how it affects the shoe. If it doesn't do anything besides remove the tape residue, keep using.
OK so i watched this video a couple of months before doing a pair of shoes. When i did the actual shoes i didn’t use the crepe tape before putting on the green tape, so when i removed the green tape i was left with a sticky adhesive on the shoe 🤦♀️ How do I remove that? Also, I am accurate with tapping for the most part, but I still have spaces of white slightly showing when I remove the tape from the shoe and the paint also kind of peels a little bit when removing. How can I avoid these things happening? I almost want to try not tapping 😩 I’m a perfectionist when I paint so I hate the white spots!
A glue & residue eraser will be a game changer for cleaning up any residue
amzn.to/49NYusr
as for touching up spots that's completely normal, you just need to get back in there with a detail brush and touch things up
I recently used the scotch 2060 tape on some midsoles and there is tape residue. What would be the best way to remove that ?
Odd, that shouldn’t be happening... try heating the tape before removal next time potentially but you can rub it off with a qtip or dip the qtip on acetone also
Could I get a video like this that’s not an AF1, J1, or dunk? I’m having a heck of a time taping performance soles (Griffey’s, Jordans 4-16, huarache, etc)
I'm a 12 year old customizing shoes and my next project are Louis Vuitton denim converse. Any tips?
Get after it! Cant wait to see em
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear Thanks!
Madison Garcia hey just out of curiosity how did it turn out?
Thanks for more tips🙏🏼
Thanks for tuning in!
When you airbrush do you use a mixture to make your paint thinner .. if so what do you use.. or do you just fill the airbrush gun with straight Angelus paint
Yes you would want to use angelus 2-thin
DeJesus Custom Footwear would it be the typical 1:1 ratio? My bad for pitching into this conversation a year later lmao
DeJesus Custom Footwear nevermind!! I’m just gonna go watch your airbrush videos lol
Can you do a tutorial of how to tape the Jordan 4s?
Bape for life
Thank you buddy
🤙🏽
I’m trying to restore my white cement jordan 3 s and I’m struggling with paint breeding through. I struggling to get clean lines . I used the scotch masking , angelus vinyl tape , frogger green painters tape but i keep getting paint bleeding
What kind of finishers do you guys use or recommend/. Coats so the paint doesn’t rub off or gets scratched off
Prep is going to be a much larger factor in that, but some of the finishers I recommend are Angelus matte finisher, krylon matte spray, and liquid kickz
Will the gaffer tape leave residue on the leather?
Nope
good work .
Thanks for watching bud!
Like Jordon bubble bee shoe!!!😁
How can I stop the paint from bleeding under the tape??
Might need to use a different tape for the job, or your tape just isn’t sealed so need to actually press it down firmly with something hard
I'm trying to clean the bottom of my shoes with a cleaner, water and toothbrush. But the water is getting on the shoe upper. Tips? Use tape? Its suede upper also
It can still leak onto the upper honestly, most shoe cleaners are safe to use on suede so you may not really have to worry about anything other than letting them dry.
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear Thank you for your response. Can you answer one more question. I used (brand) MINT shoe cleaner. Some of it got on my suede new balance upper with water mixed in. It was not MINT suede cleaner. If this leaves a stain what must I do when it is fresh or said stain has set in already. Please and thank you.
Can I put the green masking tape on other places like the swoosh area or toe box? Will it leave behind residue, and 2nd do you recommend the angelus “premium masking tape”
Oh yeah you can deifnitly use it on other places as well, yeah the red vinyl works good too
DeJesus Custom Footwear do you have any tips on doing stencils without an airbrush? And can u let me know how to do characters on shoes? I’m not sure if I’m supposed to do multiple coats or not
I like to use newspaper to fill the shoe and tape the top
Wish I watched this before I started my af1s I used scotch and it left a fuck ton ton of residue , any tips to get it off
See if your painting midsoles or designing or whatever, take airforce 1's for e.g. What paint and other resources would you use, saying as the midsoles are like bumpy rubber
You never want to paint midsoles or soles unfortuantely, it’s just going to crack
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear ok thank you, and what brand of acetone would you recommend? Something inexpensive would be good
@@kerriesmith7903 you can pick up regular acetone from your local hardware store
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear thanks, its really a lot more expensive here in the uk to buy all the angelus products that you menioned in your " if you have a budget of $100 video" is there any way that i could get a discount?
@@kerriesmith7903 our discount code linked in description !
Is the sock liner tape just the tape hockey players use on their sticks?
how do i get my gaffer tape to stick to the sock liner it wont stick please help man
If gaffers isn’t working for you, you can give medical tape or try or just roll with the beige scotch tape.. it really shouldn’t require much efofrt for the gaffers tape since it’s sooooo strong, so it might just not be working on the pair of shoes you’re working on
