I’m here in the Appalachian mountains and we’re surviving the recent hurricane. Hopefully at some time in people’s life they will learn perspective. Thank you, Stephanie, for teaching history because knowing it, we can understand that there is nothing new under the sun. We will survive!
I was wondering about the Appalachia area, there must be families along the river or streams that were impacted, yet nothing in the news. There is a filmer who spent time with a lower income family I was thinking about that family hoping nothing happened for them.( In a bad way , losing even more)
Communities from our little corner of PA are pulling together supplies to send south to areas affected by the hurricane. Our love and prayers go out to all those in need.
Absolutely tragic, to loose one child is devastating enough, but to loose 8 and his beloved wife as he did, it would be enough heartbreak to never recover from.
Merci beaucoup.
If you want more of the history, the duc of Aumal was the uncle of the duchess of Alençon who was the sister of sissi empress of Austria and this incredible woman die burning alive during the fire of the bazare de la charité...😢
That chateau was beautiful but somehow cold, direly tragic and sad given the family's losses. They were such good-looking people too. It's interesting how in the past no amount of privilege could ensure against child mortality and medical problems that are mostly non-existent today. I'm really happy that you've acquired a new knight for your realm!
They were cousins, their parents and grand parents were cousins, the whole lineage of the bourbon family was from the same tree in both side. His father and her grandfather were cousins, her own parents were cousins and also related to her husband, she married her own cousin, nothing would save her kids in this time either, their lineage was deadly.
Stephanie, ( I feel I know you) I just want to Thankyou for the moments of joy this video gave me looking at the beautiful chateau, and for all the joy your videos bring to my life Thankyou dear girl Love amanda
What a tragic history of these people that loved each other and their children. It gives great perspective on just how lucky and unlucky everyone can be.
Just sat down with the chateau diaries TH-cam. .seemed too short too fast gone by . Now I’m returning to the real world.and back to work.thank you for the escape.
Like the shawl idea especially if u r going into another winter without heating, Steph and Galahad look cosy but Phillip is looking like Beetlejuice don’t think a brooch is going to help x
What a fun day at Chateau de Chantilly. Now I know why they call a special cream cake, usually with berries, chantilly cake. Though I doubt the cakes here comes close to what you experienced there. Those knitted half ponchos look great and will keep you both snug in the winter.
You are a fantastic storyteller, and I didn't want this vlog to end. I cried for the beautiful mom who lost 8 of her children and for the father who grieved. They were such attractive people. The tour of their chateau and little apartment on the island is something I have never seen before but only in books. Nothing here even compares. Marie fixed a yummy supper and the dishes are my favorite at your chateau. Thank you so much for the tour of Chateau De Chantilly.
Good morning all. You're such a good storyteller Stephanie that I can easily listen to you all day long without losing neither concentration nor interest ❤❤
I find it intriguing to see dog-headed people, or cynocephali, which are a mythical race of beings with the head of a dog or jackal that was believed to exist in many different forms and contexts. Stunning chateau. Lovely to see screens in the windows. Wow the library. Thanks for bringing us along.❤
That really was an amazing trip and how very sad . You take me to places I will never see and have never heard about and with your story telling Stephanie I now know . Thankyou ,you really are special 🤗
The Chateau de Chantilly is glorious. Thanks for the very informative tour. You are the David Attenborough of Chateaus’ But wow what an emotional turmoil Henri had in his lifetime, to lose is Wife and all his children over the years is so very sad. The Art Gallery looks wonderful, the furniture is stunning. What a great day out. X
I would suggest making that trip again in TWO days. Drive the first day early and have a day in the region and have dinner at the Chateau. Then next day, the tour. Leave at your leisure to return home. Driving 9 hours in one day is broken up and less stressful on Philip .....😉
Yes Philip, you can wear a brooche and if you do not have one to match, no doubt you will source one! Great to see how happy and uplifted you both are having travelled to Chantilly and back safely and beautifully narrated by you Stephanie. That dinner service never ceases to amaze me.... those little pearls dotted around the perimeter of each piece. Well done Philip, you give me such joy! Keep up the wonderful, good work Marie!
Stephanie, how did you achieve filming a bowl with pigeons/doves inside the Chateau while a real life beautiful wild pigeon walked on the balcony outside. Brilliant photography and educated commentary, such a Pro! We share a love and respect of pigeons, I was given an ASBO by Westminster Council for rescuing injured pigeons, it was so ridiculous that it took a few Court visits to make it stick. I still rescue pigeons, somebody has to and they received thirty two Gallantry medals for their bravery in The Second World War, and that was just for the ones that survived! Namaste 🙏
What absolutely stunningly beautiful apartments. Everything was jaw-dropping. It's such a sad story of loss as well. I can only imagine the suffering they endured losing all of their children and also his wife. Marie and Phillip, that is a delicious meal and beautiful table. I love the knitted goods. Galahad 's Harry Potter style jumper is adorable. ❤
So glad I discovered your visit at the Boulle exhibition (by chance !!) yesterday morning. I live not far from Chantilly so I decided to go today before the end of it tomorrow.! The chateau was overcrowded since it was a very sunny day and week end . However I really enjoyed the visit and also the private apartments with a guided tour. I must admit your comments were even more accurate than hers specially the details about that poor family. I highly recommend a visit to Chantilly for people visiting Paris , Chantilly being very close to the capital. 2 days would be perfect for enjoying a complete tour of the chateau and also the stables where you can attend an equestrian show . There ´s even a real tea salon on the main street ( the English shop) for those who miss scones and lemon curd …
The château is absolutely a magnificent home. Yes it's is very sad but during that period of time childhood death was very common few children actually reached full adulthood. The château is decorated so perfectly in such fineness.
Thank you Stephanie for taking us on this amazing journey with you both. Educational and absolutely spectacular buildings and the furniture wow. Losing so many children and then losing the woman you have loved and adored how heartbreaking. So glad Philip was able to find the extra soup plates, so you could enjoy using them for your dinner with your guests.
Wow! Wow! Wow! That was spectacular! Stephanie, you and Philip get to see the coolest stuff! That place deserves a week's worth of content. What a history behind those walls. I wanted to see the stables. I wanted to see it all. Philip, the table setting was perfection. I especially love that China pattern. Thanks for sharing your adventures. ❤ from TX!
An extraordinary collection for the people of France. I wonder about the story of the nazi art thefts in France - I bet it’s a fascinating tale. A spectacular place to wander and I’m sure one could spend days there really. Thank you for showing this to all of us!❤️
This was such a moving episode. Stephanie, yiu did such a mondergul job bringing the story to life. My hear felt for the overwhelming amount of loss suffered by the family. To see Galahads love for you upon your arrival home was sheer joy. I felt Lancelot gazing down and feeling comforted. Your guests love you so. It was wonderful to see the thoughtful presents. What a fabulous day trip!
Philip, knives are not put on their knife holder when you set the table. Usually, knife holders are only for family meals but not for formal meals with guests. :) Marie : We don't say Bon appétit for each dish nor at the start of a lunch/dinner. It's said to be bad manners :)
Stephanie and Philip this was a treasure of a vlog. Thank you, so much for taking us along. So much sadness right now with the storms in the USA. It was a beautiful break.
Life and love we are fortunate to find both - I and my first partner together for 18 years until he passed and now my second love 23 years - value your relationships and the joy of life.
What a tragic story about love lost 😞. I couldn’t imagine losing the love of my life and all eight of my children! Kudos to this man for spending his wealth to leave something beautiful and culturally historical for the people of France who, as you noted, exiled him and his family. What else would he have done, with no immediate heirs to leave it to?! I have to believe that, as he purchased these things, they must, in some way, brought him closer to his loved ones. He did a great thing sharing so much beauty and, in turn, you shared it with us! Thank you so much!
Have long dreamt of seeing Chantilly, we saw Chambord and Chenanceau and were told Chantilly was the best! So loved your narrative as usual no one does it better. I can feel the excitement in your voice. This was an amazing visit Merci!
Thank you for this very special tour of the Chateau de Chantilly and the story of the family that called it home. A remarkable residence of such exquisite beauty and yet also filled with loss and deep sorrow. All a poignant reminder of mankind’s ability to build intoxicatingly grand and inspired works of architecture and artistry that inspire a sense of exhilarating wonderment even while gently hinting at subtle reflections on the fragility of human life. I know that when I visit historically significant residences, whether a modest abode or magnificent palace, I’m always intrigued by the stories of those who lived there. It’s the trifecta of human interest, art and architecture that drives my curiosity to look, listen and learn.
I feel like I learn so much from these adventures! ( especially the pronunciation of Chantilly). Thank you for taking us along 🤗. And nice book selections, Phillip.
😍WOW! Every sq inch of Château de Chantilly is mind blowing!! 💖The family sweaters are adorable!! Would be a great snapshot in front of the xmas tree! 🎄
Thank you for a very dream like visit to Château de Chantilly. What you showed was just stunning. The story was so sad but the Prince was able to fulfill his life by leaving a very special legacy to the people of France.
What a sad heartfelt story of Chateau de Chantilly. To lose everyone you love and to be a sole survivor..😢. Love the hand knits! The colours blend so well together! ❤
Truly interesting, the furniture is astonishing and those colors are still being used today, how attractive they are ❣The knitted cover for Galahad is really great especially with the emblem ❣my neice crochet me the same wrap but it has split and button on the top, to match was a mermaid blanket, its so warm!! And every once in a while I chuckle at what I must look like🌝🌝 Thanks for your tours !!!!
Thank you for sharing this story and the magnificent chateau. House museums are the best because you get a glimpse into another life, with all its ups and downs.
Such a sad story from that wonderful chateau! I have lost all sense of timings with your 'day trip' Stephanie....you left at sunset for a 4.5hour journey.....whatever time did you eat dinner??? Sandi x
wow , wow, wow, O my Goodness again a taste of heaven. Phillip you are going to be very busy accumulating your dowry to follow this exhibition . So nice of Ron to include you . Again it is emphasized, money is not everything, as you can't buy your health or love And that wee Galahad is a precious little dog who loves everyone. Thank you for your vlogs

Hello from Texas, sending prayers.
Oh Steph….in this world of war, hurricanes, fires and general ugliness, this vlog brings beauty, history and warmth to my day. Thank you! ❤
A beautiful chateau but such a sad love story!!!
Absolutely tragic, to loose one child is devastating enough, but to loose 8 and his beloved wife as he did, it would be enough heartbreak to never recover from.
Lose
Absolutely! (Lose not loose) ;)

In this château there also one of the most beautiful pink diamond the condé diamond
After a week of tragic hurricane aftermath here in South Carolina, I love escaping to France with Steph. The gold trim is so beautiful.
Prayers and support to all of you from Texas. 😢🙏🏻

2:20 that blue bedroom is absolutely stunning! The shade is a perfect harmony between moody and airy.
What a tragic history of these people that loved each other and their children.
It gives great perspective on just how lucky and unlucky everyone can be.
I did not know much about Chantilly so this was very interesting.
Thanks for showing us the Château, what a tragic story, yes loosing one child but 8 how on earth would you get over that!
Loving your shawls 😂❤
The boiserie alone is stunning. Thanks for sharing.

🙏🏻
merci beaucoup pour la visite du château. Si bien présenté comme toujours.
Wow, such opulence and sadness in lives. Yes, I am grateful for my life. Thank you Stephanie.

Since you’re all dog lovers now, I can’t help to mention that our beloved Dobermann Buddy turned 12 today!!
He wouldn’t live to be four, according to the specialists who diagnosed him with bonecancer when he was 3,5… Cannabis oils don’t work for everyone, but they worked for him and he’s 12 now!! 🥳🥳 He’s been celebrating with an angus burger, among other things… 😉🥳
Again the soup looks so nice. Those knitted items were very cute.
