    Fun tidbit: for the final fight between Obi Wan and Maul, the actors Ewan and Ray were so hyped and practiced this fight for so long, they moved too fast for the camera. The directors used a special camera setting to *slow down* the action instead of the usually used one that *speeds up* the scenes.
    Yeah, actual heart went into these movies.

    I like how the lightsabers in the prequel trilogy treat them like actual weightless weapons. They do tons of tricks like flips and twirls and have intense choreography because you basically have to be a super human to wield one in the first place. 😅

      Canon lore lightsabers. Weapons used by Jedi and Sith or ex Jedi and Sith that have mastered certain styles of combat that are exclusive to their training. No one else in the Galaxy can just pick up a lightsaber and start swinging it with ease. Hence why the storyline of Rey is garbage. At least with Kylo Ren (or Ben solo) Luke trained him to use a lightsaber properly. Luke received proper saber training from Obi Wan on the Millennium Falcon and eventually mastered using it in Return of the Jedi, notice how in a New Hope Luke uses a blaster instead of the lightsaber. But nah, Rey just knows how to use it instantly. Making the sequels bullshit.

    Keep in mind that the original trilogy was made in the late seventies and early eighties. They basically had to invent methods to make the lightsabers work on film. The duel between Obi-Wan and Vader on the Death Star in Episode 4 is from 1977 and the very first time someone tried that kind of special effect. That movie gave birth to Industrial Lights and Magic, the first dedicated special effects company. There was no CGI, there was no green screen. It was extremely difficult to do the effects and that meant quick motions weren't possible. Also, nobody had any idea what a lightsaber fight should look like and Alec Guiness, playing Obi-Wan, wasn't the youngest. The prequels did much more impressive fights, so did the animated series (Clone Wars and Rebels, mostly).

    • @fknpanda7280
      @fknpanda7280 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      thats what makes the sequels and newer shows lightsaber fights so disappointing to me, because IMO they really had it nailed down straight for the prequels where the fights were fast and acrobatic but now the sabers look heavy, and slow.

    • @Schwartzbruder1
      @Schwartzbruder1 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@fknpanda7280yea. That's because so many panned the prequels when they came out and complained that the lightsaber dueling was "ballerina dancing" so when making the sequels they threw the baby out with the bathwater.

      @fknpanda7280 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Schwartzbruder1 i personally dont agree with the "ballerina dancing" argument, i mean the prequels were meant to show jedi at their peak compared to the Original trilogy, they literally had to slow down some fight scenes like obi wan vs maul in TPM because they moved so quickly so its jarring to go from those 20 year old scenes to modern ones and it being worse now. But they seemed to have gone for the cheaper option nowadays, opting to use big LED lightsabers that are heavier and give a natural lighting effect rather than using the thin steel and alluminum rods which allow for faster movement and just add the effects later in post, the choreography is definitely held back by the new sabers so its sad to see

      Characters get stabbed THROUGH THE CHEST multiple times in Disney star wars, and are TOTALLY fine literally immediately afterwards. Sometimes with ZERO medical attention even!
      Finn gets slashed up his back with a lighstaber, his jacket isn't even singed.
      Kylo gets slashed in the FACE by a lighstaber, just turns it into a fashion statement.
      Kylo gets impaled by a lightsaber, Rey just HEALS a fatal lightsaber wound! Meanwhile Anakin's force ghost is in the background going "OH WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SHIT!?"
      If a faceless storm trooper gets slashed by a lightsaber though, they WILL die, but you know they've died because there will be lines on their armor, not because they get like cut in half or beheaded or anything. Not like Star Wars has ever done stuff like that.
      You know you can really sum up Disney Star Wars by pointing out ONE thing. At the PEAK, the GRAND FINALE of their trilogy, episode 9 Rise of Skywalker, Palpatine "has become all the Sith" and his power is maximum and he's shooting FLEET DESTROYING LIGHTNING at Rey.
      Rey then becomes ALL THE JEDI, and they FORGOT to have her use the force at all....... Yeah, she just blocks his FLEET DESTROYING LIGHTNING with a lightsaber, then she picks up a SECOND lightsaber and blocks it perfectly, and she DOESN'T use any force powers at all, and she walks towards Palpatine and because he just doesn't stop shooting lightning at her, it disintegrates him. It's already established the FORCE can block lightning, but they just forgot to have her use the force which you'd THINK is what "being all the jedi" would power up, like it did with Palpatine. The Force by the way, as demonstrated in this very video, was established to be able to block force lightning, TWENTY YEARS AGO. And these movies are all still canon too, not that Disney gives a shit about that.
      Then after Palpatine dies to his own lightning, Rey also dies, for NO reason. She blocked all his lightning, she was NEVER injured (she's never injured in any way this entire trilogy) and she didn't use the force AT ALL, but she just dies. Then Kylo brings her back to life and dies instead, and unlike Rey, Kylo disappears immediately.
      That's how you summarize Disney Star Wars. "Look at the colors and lights you stupid monkeys and give us your money."
      No logic. No story. No effort. No heart. No talent. They can't even connect the events of a single scene, they make weapons disappear when they're just not convenient, like Kylo's blaster when the Knights of Ren show up to betray him for no established reason. And they steal from Avengers Endgame "I am all the Jedi", they steal from Endgame a lot actually, and they just have spectacle and one liner, and they want her to die so she just DOES despite nothing happening that would cause her to die.
      Disney Star Wars is awful and there's a very good reason it's not making money anymore.

    The part that everyone forgets about lightsaber duels in old vs. new type comparisons: the lightsaber duels in the OG's were a lot more personal. Darth Vader was Luke's father and Obi-Wan's old apprentice. So their connection was what made the duels feel so epic. In the prequels, there's a lore established of generational HATRED between Jedi and Sith. That's why during fights between Jedi and Sith, there is usually very little personal dialogue; because they already made up their minds about motivation in this fight: KILL the other. They don't care who the other person is; Jedi are Jedi and Sith are Sith. If they knew each other before they knew they were of opposite ideologies, THEN they'll have a personal connection in a fight and reason to speak during the duel. Otherwise, they just going straight for the kill. Yoda knew Palpatine as a Chancellor, that's why he spoke with Sidious. Yoda trained Dooku personally, that's why he spoke with Tyrannus. Obi-Wan and Anakin are master and apprentice, that's why they spoke. But Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan NEVER knew Maul. All they saw was a dude with a red lightsaber; so they knew: this guy was a Sith and had to die. They didn't care to get to know him, not even when the ray shields rose; only that he was a dead man walking.

    I think that what the new lightsabers fights lack of is the weight, but in the responsability of using one, you know. Before the Disney era, a lightsaber was a duel between the light and the darkness, and whoever came victorious would mold the galaxy to their liking.
    Nowadays in the new era, even if you are stabbed by one, you are ok as long as you are the protagonist of the story.
    Where is the burden of having the lightsaber? Where is the responsability? And, Where are the abilities that separated the padawan to the master? The last fights that I saw in the Obi-wan serie was so good, not gonna lie, but everything else was just filling, didn't matter at all, and the Inquisitors were supposed to be the big menaces that Obi-wan confronted, and they were meh for me.

    Obi Wan is the GOAT. He fought Darth Maul as a padawan...and won. Fought and killed General Grievous. He then fought new Darth Vader, which is a dark side Anakin Skywalker in his prime(that had just killed the greatest sabre duelist to ever live). Then he fought Darth Vader again and won. And finally, he fought a vengeance-fueled Darth Maul a second time, killing him in 2 swings of his sabre. Nobody has a history quite like Obi Wan Kenobi.

    The Phantom Menace came out in early 1999. So that scene was not merely 10+ years old. It was almost quarter of a century ago. But if you want a lightsaber duel to "react to"... then this is what you want.

    • @haku8135
      @haku8135 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Star Wars mop kid looks better than the new stuff.
      The new stuff is just fucking baseball bats and awful choreography. Like the actors just DON'T know how to swordfight or anything to the point Rey will kick one person and 3 people she never touched will fly backward. Then she needs the editor to save her by removing an entire knife so she's not stabbed in the back cause they don't plan ANYTHING out. In Rise of Skywalker Kylo literally has his saber up, he crouches, holds the saber behind his back, like hilt near his waist and the blade is pointing up his back, and he's just sitting there waiting for one of HIS fucking knights who are apparently very unloyal to him, to hit his lightsaber, and then he does, and then Kylo is like satisfied and stands up to continue swinging his lightsaber at them. These people, by the way, who could not even INJURE him, while he was UNARMED.
      Then there's the Kenobi show, which was the same thing, awful baseball bats, just swinging them a lot, no finesse at all, but they jangle keys in front of people by just going "Ahhhh Obi Wan is lifting like a MOUNTAIN of rocks..... Probably should've done that a few other times, actually. Might've saved his life, when Vader... Killed him. Hm."
      Ahsoka. AHSOKA! That's the WORST. Ahsoka moves like she's doing fucking tai chi when her fighting style is supposed to be VERY fast and super agile. Watching her deflect blaster fire is torture, cause she just slowly moves her sabers around and blaster bolts just appear to hit them. It's like the troopers are AIMING at her lightsabers, not at her. When they do that STUPID Anakin episode, it's actually satisfying to see Hayden come in and STYLE on her slow ass. Watching him fight is such a stark difference to Ahsoka's garbage actress.
      Then of course there's the single biggest problem Disney has done to lightsabers. They are NO LONGER LETHAL. They just keep doing this, and they've done it since episode 7, twice in one scene actually. Getting hit by a lightsaber is at BEST slightly annoying, and at ABSOLUTE worst requires a fade to black, then that person is 100% fine in the literal next scene. In Ahsoka Sabine has a LIGHTSABER shoved through her torso, left there FOR A WHILE, and then pulled out. She is then 100% recovered THE NEXT DAY.
      In Kenobi Reva is stabbed with a lightsaber TWICE, once as a literal child, and again as an adult, and BOTH times she just gets up with NO MEDICAL ATTENTION and is totally fine!
      Lightsabers aren't dangerous anymore, they're just baseball bats.

    the funny thing about people saying that the Obi-wan vs. Vader wasn't as good as the old ones is that, that movie is the very first Star Wars movie ever made. George Lucas made them 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3 and then Disney took over and ran it into the ground.
