AtomRC Dolphin - Li-Ion Endurance Test at Cotter Dam

  • In my previous video, I made up a split 4S 4200mAh Li-Ion pack connected by a series harness for the Dolphin. ( • How to make Li-Ion Pac... )
    Today I finally got to test it, and it worked really well! Maintaining a roughly 4A draw (remembering the DJI VTX and other electronics would account for over half an Amp), it took 45 minutes of flight to get the batteries down to 3v per cell - with a safety margin since the P42As can be discharged down to 2.5v.
    Unfortunately I didn't take note of the total distance travelled on landing, but did see the Dolphin was averaging 60 kph at this low power -- very impressive little foam mammal! It didn't seem particularly unstable, but would probably benefit from a bit more speed.
    With that test over, I'll probably cruise at 5-6A most of the time, as a half hour flight at higher speed will still cover plenty of ground and be more enjoyable.

    just beautiful flight with matched music ! again, nice video ! I was the first guy ( I believed ) import the Dolphin way before banggood sell it . then I am also the first guy crashed it ! ha........! Had my 3rd one ready to fly, changed set up a bit . from T-motor 2310 2200kv to 3BR 1900kv, and just ordered a 3.5h 4s Li-ion ....$20 with free shipping but by Ocean, takes months !

      That's cool! I'm leaving this 2207-1900kv on for now but already have the upgrade ready, a brotherhobby 2507-1750kv to spin the 7" prop easier.
      Be careful with the small 3.5A Ion, when you get down to 3v per cell it will struggle to deliver current and any higher throttle will sag the voltage, so your trip home will be slow. Any headwind then becomes a problem.

    Impressive, though it was dead calm looking at the reservoir, as there were no ripples at all. What's the airframe like in the wind? Still, 40 mins is a long time for such a small airframe & I'm guessing you could mount the motor on stand-offs so CG can be achieved with more battery if you wanted. Is this the first time you've used a Vista? I have 2 Air Unit, but so far have only barely used 1.

    • @ZaksterBlue
      @ZaksterBlue  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's pretty good for its size. You can see from the DVR snippets that it got a little rough in the hills, but I didn't need to keep correcting roll like I have to with the Dragon in ACRO mode.
      Yes, first time with a Vista on a range plane. Seems fine but I need more cooling still.

    • @ZaksterBlue

    It looks like you're either on a public channel for your dji system or you haven't updated it in a bit. You should be getting 50mbps bitrate at closer ranges. Also, what 21700 cells did you use for your pack?

    • @ZaksterBlue
      @ZaksterBlue  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Josh, I've been using 25mbit as it hangs on better and recovers faster when you're at the fringes of signal. And also necessary when flying with others on analogue. TBH, I've been forgetting I have the option to bump it up when I do fly on my own and closer range!

    stunning flight mate, so i have a white one coming plan to run 2650mah 4s lipo, or if to heavy then 2200mah 4s, but what motor, i have SS 2214 1400kv or racerstar 2207 1600 and 2200kv, would like to use HQ 7x4.5 as they are decent props

      About 140 kph with the small 1900kv motor. You would need higher kV motor and smaller prop to get more speed.
