this is so impressive to me. Alex has such a calm and calculated disposition. Like a tiger swatting chickens
you can stalemate a bit better by taking the bishop to the f4 square, which allows the pawn to promote and then you can box her into the bottom right square cause the bishop is dark squares. unfortunate is was an h file pawn that survived, but whatever. if it was a g file you could've pulled through with a checkmate ending if you played carefully.
That's the kind of 5-on-1 action that I'm coming to this channel for! 😄

Just wondering, @6:03 if Alex had moved her white bishop to h6 instead of moving her knight, wouldn't that have been Mate in 1 more move? (with the Queen barrage) cause pawn can't take bishop, it would be putting the king in check, but queen can take pawn the next turn and checkmate the king right??

well, it would reduce the random blunder for sure. I think as long as they have time to talk things out it's for sure an advantage.
You might have heard of power in unity. I mean if was like just total up the rates of the guys and + Andrea it was like 6vs1. It was surely an advantage
if its like 5 800s versus a 1500 then they are much stronger than 1 800 because of the reduced number of one move blunders, but past a point i agree

Really really enjoyed the video. Would love to see a video of Alex vs similar rated 5 players who play in rotation as in person 1 plays 1st move then person 2 plays second move and so on. That was just a suggestion tho. Thanks for the amazing content.

It's nice to see a friendly game without all the violence typically associated with chess.
Let's be real here. If most of them had 1400-1500 and one had 1900, this was essentially a match between a 1900 and Botez. The depth of knowledge that the 1400-1500 have, would not be enough to make useful contributions in critical moments.
The game-changer was Andrea's introduction to the mix - another high-rated player providing depth into the game.
Intro looked like something you'd be watching with headphones late at night in your room.
When you call for a professional chess player and Andrea walks over.
This was so good!!! I normally skip through 20 min videos but this one had me thoroughly entertained throughout the entire thing. Also Andrea was so nice, not letting her sister gaslight the boys into thinking they were destroyed lol

At 12:55 why didn't they just put pawn c2? The king would be in check, and if the king moved d2 the next turn they would have still gotten a queen that was defended by the bishop. Why no one thought of that?

My experience playing chess on the street in Bangkok, shows a master can play as many people as want to get on the other side, however, I was only able to hold them to a stalemate every time.
This feels like if there was a Chess Reality show on MTV.

Andrea was literally being the devil's advocate with the "advice" lol
I know this was made for fun, but if you decide to follow up on it, you can make it more interesting / challenging with a few tweaks:
1) The "expert" should be on for a limited amount of moves, let's say around 5. Also the expert should preferably be higher rated than Alex (Levy, Eric Rosen). This would make the "lifeline" feel more impactful. Otherwise, if there's no limited time, you have 2 undesirable consequences:
a) The "lifeline" is not a lifeline, because it would be called in from move 1.
b) Since you play all the game with the lifeline, the other players will not matter anymore, it will turn into Lifeline vs Alex.
I know this would have the downside of not having Andrea in the video (which would be a shame), so maybe you could just add her to Alex's team. Make it a 2 vs 7 ?!
2) The opponents should all be of similar rating (less than 100 rating difference between lowest and highest).
In this video the 1900 guy should really have taken initiative and call the shots since he is so much better than the other 4, according to the rating.
As an alternative to the point above, you could still have a wide range of ratings among the opponents, but then they should each take turns in moving. They can still consult each other to decide the move, but if there's disagreement the decision is ultimately with the guy who's turn it is to move - thus giving some semblance of agency and involvement to each player, not just the 1900 guy.

This thumbnail is legendary. Botez sisters are so good for this game
ReMatch them all, but they each have to play their own game and you play all five at the same time. You get 30 min between all 5 boards, they only have the time inbetween your moves. Same money stakes, but if they lose, they have to do some chores, run erands for you and your sister.
Kings Indian defense is one of my favorite defenses!
Alexandra's mistake was at 7:55, she should've taken the bishop with her queen, this takes out the bishop and threatens the queen while putting it in a pre-check position, even if the other team chose to do a queen exchange, she would've still had the material advantage having a rook alongside the other pawns.
The true winner was Alex for surviving Andrea
Well first she survived five guys. *If you know what I mean(mr. Bean face)*
