The Goblins are not puppets, they are actors with makeup filmed on a small scale, just like in the film The Hobbit. The actress who sings talked about the makeup and filming process on social media.
Same. Watching reaction videos probably doesn't help, but there are so many great channels reacting to Doctor Who right now, like this one, so it's kinda a steady stream of seeing the Goblin Song over and over again. And that pretty much guarantees that the Goblin Song being stuck in our heads is not going away any time soon.
Find me a serious, gritty Doctor Who Christmas special. They have flying sharks. It’s a camp fest with an emotional nougat center, that’s what the Christmas Specials are for. This was about meeting Ncuti and Millie, who are both incredible for their roles. It’s not supposed to be deep beyond that.

I like the general concept of the joke, accidentally changing a semi-common word that then pops up now and again, but gravity was a terrible choice. The word is not randomly made up but derived from the Latin “gravis” (heavy) and there is nothing in the short interaction with Newton that would explain its change to the nonsense word mavity.
@@Morpheus451sure, but finding a word that didn't have a long etymological history and was in common enough use to be convenient while also making for a fun little historical cold open would probably be pretty tricky.

Anita Dobson (Mrs Flood) is the wife of Brian May, an astrophysicist who played guitar in a small band called Queen She's a prolific actress who was in EastEnders, a long lasting show which made a crossover episode with Doctor who in 1993 That might be the connexion, but we'll not know it soon, as RTD said the mystery around her will be a slow burn plot through the season
"Is that Missy? Is Ruby the daughter of the Master?" Well, that was random. I propose a couple of different, equally valid theories: "Is Ruby the daughter of Jackie Tyler and captain Jack Harkness? Is Ruby the daughter of Sally Sparrow and Nardole? Might be! Who knows?" 😅
2:23 Uh... no she wont get expensive health insurance cause she's british lol. I loved this episode and how the TARDIS opened the door for Ruby. I'm thrilled with the new Doctor and Ruby and looking forward to the season. So much fun watching with y'all!
Personally i do not think Mrs Flood can be River Song, Missy, the Rani or any of the old companions*, or old ruby due to the fact she did not recognise the Tardis at the beginning (accusing her neighbour of putting it there), plus her expression of bewilderment (dropping her shopping) when it dematerialises in front of her near the end of the episode. Having excluded all those I am stumped ... *Mrs Flood says she has not seen a police box on the streets of london since the 1960's, maybe she just has not seen the Tardis for a very long time ... maybe she is the very first companion, Susan, the Doctors granddaughter (originally played by Carole Ann Ford). ....Probably not lol

Would it change your opinion to know the singer's (character) name is Janis Goblin? Sure the sequence is odd, but the bit I love is the Doctor using the song against them because they never cut to the band whilst Doctor/Ruby are singing and I'm just imagining them going "How dare you compel us with our own methods?"
I really liked the Church on Ruby Road. It was just fun! I loved Ncuti. I love that the sonic screwdriver has more capabilities. The standout line for me was “I’m learning the vocabulary of rope!”I loved Millie as Ruby. Ncuti and Millie have excellent chemistry. Ruby actually feels like a real three-dimensional person. I miss Russell's writing companions. I will say, it felt like Ruby was just totally okay with everything going on. I was waiting for her “WTF is going on” freakout. But that looks like that’s coming at the beginning of the next episode. She did say that it's all been so manic she hasn't had time to process and at the end of this episode she did do the “it’s bigger on the inside‽” without actually saying it. And it was awesome! Also, Ruby is the same age as Rose Tyler. I loved her mother and grandmother. I thought the song was a lot of fun and I loved that Fifteen improvised on the spot. However, once again, Ruby did not lose it at what was happening threw me for a bit. I honestly thought this was going to end with the doctor calling for Ruby’s bio mom’s attention like Twelve did with Bill’s mom. Kind of glad he didn’t. I figured there was something up with Mrs. Flood because of her reaction to the Doctor going in and out of the TARDIS but that fourth wall break really shocked me! And she mentions way back in her first scene that she hasn’t seen one in 50 years. They brought back “mavity” and I’m wondering if that’s a puzzle piece in the mystery box. I hope we see more of Ruby’s friends. And did anyone else really like that cop character? Fun fact: the snowman scene was added at the request of Disney because they did some scene tests and people said that there wasn't enough of Ncuti in the quarter of the episode. And I think the scene really works. Reminded me of both the Doctor introducing himself in "The Waters of Mars" and the line "I'll just step into this police box and arrest myself from the episode "Planet of the Dead." Questions: Who are Ruby’s parents? Who is Mrs. Flood? Why does she drop the bags in shock in the dark timeline if she knows what a TARDIS is? Is Mrs. Flood connected to Ruby’s parents? Is all of this connected to The One Who Waits?
Ready to be blown away? In the bar an older woman calls out. That's the SAME women who met Issac Newton at the beginning of that episode. And that's significant. No spoilers but there's an indication she is going to show up again.
Christmas specials are usually one offs - Davina is a presenter on multiple shows including one about finding long lost relatives . I think they chose goblins as gremlins is a comparatively new invention ( ww2) .I enjoyed it , a lot of fun and I'm liking Ncuti and Millie as a pairing . Lots of energy and a few clues and pointers for the future . Mrs Flood is played by Anita Dobson , wife of Queen guitarist Brian May .
There's no reason the Doctor shouldn't bring Ruby back to just after they left, so her foster mother would never know she'd been gone. Admittedly this didn't quite work when David Tennant's Doctor tried it with Rose - they arrived a year later than planned - but he can at least try.
My Mrs Flood theory is that she is Ruby's mother (or at least was the woman that left Ruby at the church). She didn't seem to know what the Tartis was when she was arguing with the other neighbor, even going as far to accuse him of putting it on the sidewalk to impede her. Then she's shocked when she sees it disappear. then the Doctor parks right next to this woman literally walking away from a newborn baby she placed at the church steps. No matter what emotional state she was going through she probably noticed it but couldn't stop since she didn't want to be called back for her baby. Heck she might have seen the whole ship in the sky. So seeing this she then goes on to have a different life than she did in the original timeline, learns about the Doctor and the Tartis just by asking around enough since that is possible. Then by coincidence she ends up living below the baby she abandoned and gets to literally see that same Doctor and Tartis go back to do the thing she had witness all those years ago. Its literally that entire discussion about how one chance coincidence at the right time can completely change a person since Mrs Flood seems to be a much kinder and happier person after the Doctor goes back to save Ruby.
17:08 was looking forward to your reaction to this moment. It was so unexpected. Your reaction didn’t disappoint 18:20 my first guess is it’s Ruby dropping off herself. Or Flood dropping her off. It will all circle back with a timey wimey thing. Didn’t like the singing thing. Not a fan of the sonic remote but I’ll give it time to grow on me. Love 15 and Ruby’s energy and chemistry. Looking forward to more of them.
