    Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of you. The BBC gave me the BEST Christmas gift this year by putting this video through COPYRIGHT HELL! This is the 5th version of the video but it's FIANLLY HERE! (Apologies for the rough edit). I hope you all enjoy the reaction as much as I enjoyed this episode, Ncuti and Millie are such an exciting pair. Thanks for joining me on this New-New Who journey and I can't wait to react to Doctor Who in 2024 for you all!
    If you wanna watch the full reaction, you can do so here on my patreon: patreon.com/user?u=23309427&Link&

    I'm glad there's still a few people on TH-cam who remember that Doctor Who has always been kind of silly and campy and dumb, in a good way! It's never been hard scifi or grimdark whatever. Thanks for bringing a little more positivity into a fandom that's full of too many people taking things waaaaaay too seriously.

      @gameoverwehaveeverypixelco1258 it really hasn't its moving along with the times and evolving as all things should, just because a chunk of the fan base don't like it doesn't mean that the show is now all of a sudden terrible, personally i find it a breath of fresh air having rtd back in the saddle again

    As a Tom Baker gal from back in the day I LOVE that some folks remember the joy of the camp and a doctor that takes delight in the experiences. Some people take everything so serious, and I admit I don't enjoy the overly seriousness that has been with a lot of the doctors. Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor has me more excited for the coming episodes then I have been for a long time.

We can tell that you genuinely love this show and it makes it all the more fun to experience with you. I’ve had to stop getting DW reactions recommended to me because the majority of them have been so nitpicky and judgey. It’s like they’ve forgotten what show they’re watching lol. Regarding mama Sunday, I’ve not rewatched the ep but I’m sure they said in the ep that she full on adopted Ruby at some point so she is def legally her mum and also emotionally her Mum too.
    I do hope the “who is the person is who left Ruby” a good mystery (I say left cos technically it doesn’t have to be her mum to leave her at a church) hopefully it’s nothing too crazy like the meta-crisis doctor and rose Tyler has a kid and dropped her here levels of shenanigans tho I want it to be separate from The Doctor

    Ncuti was born to play the Doctor! The older woman is clearly knowledgeable enough to know what a TARDIS is and what they do. She has never seen the Doctors one before though. She must then know of Timelords too. I feel she may turn up throughout the series and could be the one who waits.

I feel like there are lots of opportunities for parallels between ruby and the doctor both being foundlings I’m so excited to see what they’re going to do with it! Ncuti is amazing and already one of my favorites!! He feels like a light of joy and fun! I’m also interested to see if we’re gonna get more darker moments with him like we’ve had with other doctors, which I felt was missing from 13s era.

    Great Reaction. I've loved Doctor Who since the 70's, only ever been a handful of eps I've not been a fan of, but can't expect every episode to please me. that being said, I've loved all 3 of the 60th specials & this Christmas special. I can see where some are annoyed. as it does feel a little disneyish, but hey, I can't wait to see where to from here.

  • @DavidSmith-cx8dg

    I've been watching since 1963 , over the years I've given certain times a miss if I didn't like them , but always given it a chance a few weeks later and not been disappointed . The new era has been great but maybe beginning to lose its way so I'm happy to give this new approach a chance .
    Great to see Davina in a cameo and I like the added energy and wackiness , Christmas specials have always been one - offs . A few future plotlines hinted at , with Anita Dobson . The fostering story with Rubys adoptive mum brought a serious and emotional tone when she disappeared . The goblins were pure fun and I like the New Doctor and Ruby a lot .Ncuti and Millie make a good pairing .There do seem to be a lot of 40 something youngsters who don't like it but the show has always been eccentric and funny at times and there were serious moments . I'm certainly willing to give this new incarnation a chance .

  • @Jm649
    @Jm649 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm loving these new episodes! Feels so nostalgic again, but fresh and intriguing also! There's a rumour that Rubys mum is Rose.. because Ruby is left by the church in 2004 being a year before she met the doctor and the reason why there's no record of Rose is because she's in a parallel universe 😬 Idk.. but that would be wild if true

    Love your review. As someone who’s been a fan since I was a kid in the 80s, I thought this episode was brilliant. This is the most excited I’ve been for new Doctor Who for a long, long time. (Okay, maybe I was equally excited for the 50th Anniversary special, but this is a close contender.)
    And as for Mrs. Flood, it seems to me she is clearly someone who knows what a TARDIS is, but she didn’t recognize *the Doctor’s* TARDIS. So she knows about Time Lords, but isn’t familiar with him in particular. So not River or the Rani or the Master … (this observation may age very poorly)

    My far fetched theory is Ruby is the daughter of Rose Tyler and Meta-Crisis Doctor . That the salt allowed a thinner barrier between universe's. It would be a cool Twist plus then the Doctor could tell ruby about her mother plus he would feel like he was kinda her father but not.

    The thing is with those who now hate on this show is that, the majority of them are the brigade who find it convenient to hate on it no matter what. They can't handle the tiniest elements of the stuff to with what has become todays culture wars even if it is a trans character in it for like a fleeting few moments or like Rose from first of the anniversary specials a character which was not just put in for no solid story narrative and to force a message down peoples throats but, for the exact opposite - a strong character with great story and writing behind it. But they still have to be against it, the ironical moment of mention of pronoun again only featured for a few seconds again, they have to make a whole song and dance about it in their videos slating the show to the maximum making whole videos calling the show dead and other nasty things. All in the name of in their glee of its utter condemnation gone woke and all, just because of those few tiniest of things which have all still had solid writing story and plenty of other good things in it and which therefore those things they criticise and can't handle, have served well in these anniversary specials and now this one's narrative. The sensible majority who do not think in this stupid tunnel vision view that these people and the right leaning tv channels adopt of calling Doctor Who dead, can - handle these things in their proportioned and fixed in proper stories level they have been, and will certainly feel a lot of love for Ncuti and Millie as their respective portrayals of the new doctor and companion. They have already made a strong impact both have their own distinct persona's as their characters Ncuti definitely a flamboyant confident doctor bringing a bit of his own identity, Mille as Ruby definitely equally adorable very cute instantly likeable portrayal as the companion but sense of again her own strength with it and they clearly have great chemistry together as their roles so, we are in for a great ride ahead with them both.

    • @niallnochill
      @niallnochill  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Davina is an iconic British TV presenter - she hosted Big Brother in the early 2000's. If you go back to S1 of Doctor Who when 9 and Rose get transported to the gameshow station during the series finale, 9 is in the Big Brother House and it's Davina McCall doing the presenters voice-over telling him he's been evicted! So it's her second time in Doctor who - which is very fun, silly and camp! The show she’s hosting in this episode with Ruby is also a real show - it's called Long Lost Family - where they re-unite lost family members. So it's another one of RTD'S campy nod's to DW being set in the real world! :)

      It is implied the goblins only exist as a result of Wild Blue Yonder (RTD's comments and the trailer basically suggest this entire season will be dealing with the fallout of Wild Blue Yonder). So I guess killing the Goblin King basically unravelled / undid the existence of the goblins.

    • @VolrinSeth
      @VolrinSeth ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @TastySalamanders That's fanon (fancanon) thinking, though, as that's never even hinted at in the episode. There's no hint that the king is what ties the goblins to our world/reality.

    If they had explained that the goblins of folklore were actually aliens, then I'd have no problem with the plot. But having them simply be actual goblins is way too fantastical. I realize Doctor Who doesn't have to be hard sci-fi, but this was going a step too far. 🤷

  • @UnderhillKoufax
    @UnderhillKoufax ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a mixed review of “The Church on Ruby Road.” I think the actors portraying the new Doctor and Ruby are doing the best they can under the circumstances, but RTD’s writing is weak especially in the third act. The action seems forced, out of character, and missing important context. I am also very concerned about the Disneyfication of Doctor Who reducing the show to generic villains, heroic tropes, and weak dialogue. The show has a history of science fiction overlaid on reality. The goblins appeared to be generic fantasy villains without any explanation of their presence in reality. And as an American, I honestly feared for the Doctor’s life when the police officer approached him and started writing a ticket. I do like the mystery of Mrs. Flood.
