is it too heavy-handed to call this the best, most strongly affective adaptation of any lovecraft quote? because jesus christ, the tone this sets for the remainder of the game. this scene echoed in my head for *days.* multiple long days.
@@milesmccollough5507 No, that is fairly accurate. It is a very good quote to apply to the evolution of "bioresonance" becoming part of the human condition, told through the story.
@@TheGamingAbyss Oh, that's an interesting take. I always interpreted the quote as being a vague gesture at whatever eldritch force was discovered in the mine at Leng. I guess it does have two parts, one about the great holes being digged, one about things learning to walk, so it could be both.
@@milesmccollough5507 Everyone knows "That is not dead which can eternal lie, etc" Which IS a great quote, but has been overused and lost it's impact. I cannot begin to tell you how hard I marked out over this one.
@TheGamingAbyss May I ask where you come to that conclusion? I've played signalis several times, and "bioresonacne" is only mentioned once, on some papers somewhere on rottfront if i remember correctly. It's never elaborated on or even explained what it is, as far as I know
Not only is the opening to Signalis an absolute banger, the whole game is among the best games I've ever played. It is a mixture of Resident Evil and Silent Hill and the presentation and style are heavily influenced by Neon Genesis Evangelion (especially drawn from the last episodes). After I finished the game, I was speachless and even after 1 week, I still think about it every day. What an unbelivable masterpiece.
Personally the old school res/silent hill gameplay loop begins to become repetitive after going in to act 3. That being said I think it still really works well with the setting and story they crafted. Wouldn't change anything about it.
You know immediately that this game isn’t fucking around when you get to this part. It sucked me right in and never let up. Just too damn good, so simple but also brilliant.
Me the first ten or so minutes of the game: Well this is cool, definitely seems to be a slow burn. Me after the transmission: Alright. This game rules. Injects this into my veins.
A lot of people were talking about how this game was Silent Hill 7 with a different name, a really great horror, but with all the images i was thinking they were exaggerating. Then i said: ok, it's on gamepass, let's try it. Then, after this intro i get it: they were right. This game it's probably one of the most important happening, not only in horror game, but generally in every aspect of writing one.
I hate this game. I hate the fact that the "achtung achtung" at the menu won't leave my head. Or the fact it's some of the fact that the cosmic horror is so good and original that it probably won't be repeated, that I've experienced, a level of sadness and dread that I haven't experienced since 9 year old me watched a televised release of the "The Animatrix: The Second Resistance Part 1 & 2" It angers me that I won't find something that's not just... horror but sublime horror, well handled, with higher themes of love, war, memory, longing and hope. I want something that's both dark and melancholic, I want more MNHR, just to suffer for that broken unit, to suffer for those side characters and see how they break apart and break away.
Hey... It's a totally totally different kind of game, but try The House in Fata Morgana. It made me feel a lot similarly to how you described here... It's one of my favorite stories of all time, just as Signalis is now lol
The worms that feast. They are ultimately the Elster units feeding off the "sorcerers", the previous beliefs stemming from their origin, and their time with Ariane.
Do you know who is transmitting that signal at 2:00??? Is it ELSTER? And what is that code? (I know it is necessary to get the hidden ending but what theses numbers mean???) Theses are last questions without answer that still being in my mind...
The code and signal are likely from Arianne as its implied she is the source of a lot of what happens in the game. The numbers are the code to the safe you open for the secret ending.
from what I theorized, since most core characters like Ariane or the Itou's had something to do with info materials banned by the empire, and the setting of the world is similar to the Cold War periods (see Three Note Oddity/Shortwave Radio Oddity), transmissions like these were often used to "activate" agents/spies as they were the only ones to know such number combinations in those specific languages, so maybe they were onto some spying shit against the empire or communicated with each other under the empire noses by using said codes, later - maybe as Elster then gained Ariane's memories after her bioresonance nuke when dying, all of Elster units assimilated this code as their activation messages, hence the loop of the "wake up" scene throughout the game and the lore itself and the significance the code has as it is the password for the locked safe in Ariane's room (also maybe the explanation to why there are so many Elster corpses throughout the story)

This intro wasn't all that. I came here after seeing multiple people say the intro was amazing on Facebook and I've had the game wish listed for over a year. Still will get it but that intro was weak compared to y'alls hype.
I'm sorry that you're unable to appreciate the intro the same as the rest of us. Perhaps a completion of the game will help it hit closer to home, especially if you choose to give the game multiple playthroughs for the several endings.
you had high expectations after reading about it, I didn't know anything about it and thought it was really cool. Just love the beeping at the beginning, the eery recording and then the part, where the music starts :D
Actually its very simple. Everyone has different emotional wavelength and things that "work" for some doesnt work for others. Not to mention that hype can always ruin the experience that can be - like in this case - about subtle things, not some needle-drop moment/shocker/twist etc.

Vivaldi's four seasons: Summer in D-minor. I didn't even realize how much classical references there are in this game.

what's the name of the song that plays in the opening? i've been trying to find it ever since i've finished the game.
