    URBAN EDC BACKPACK (3.0) - PART 1:
    goo.gl/wqkOYU
    The items in my Every Day Carry Backpack were selected to suit my needs as an urban commuter. I work in downtown Seattle in the software engineering field, so many of the items included are used with this career in mind. There are not a lot of items that one might see in a backpack tailored for a rural environment, however I still do carry certain emergency preparedness items that I feel are universal to both urban and rural kits.
    I feel that an EDC backpack should “compliment” ones personal EDC (aka, "the stuff you carry in your pockets") and not necessarily to provide 1-to-1 redundancy matching. For example, I carry a multi-tool as part of my EDC. Rather than include a second multi-tool in my EDC backpack, I’ve chosen to include other tools such as a multi-bit screwdriver, adjustable wrench and precision cutting blade. Another example is for illumination. Rather than include a larger flashlight in my backpack, which costs money and might not ever be used since I already EDC one, I have included illumination gear that compliments my flashlight (e.g., small lantern, magnetic work light).
    As always, this “version” of my EDC Backpack is a timestamp of what it looks like today. Tomorrow, I will probably have many a minor changes to it. I am in a constant and never ending search to create the perfect gear setup for “me”. It will never be achieved, as my needs and mindset are constantly shifting. I believe that your gear setup should constantly evolve over time, to avoid becoming stagnant or obsolete. “Be not afraid of going slowly; be afraid only of standing still.” ~Chinese Proverb
    In an effort to maximize the organization of the supplies in my EDC Backpack, I use specific color coordination for the various modules included in this bag. These colors were determined based on the results of a survey I conducted on TH-cam called “The Color Of Prepping”. By labeling and color coordinating the various modules based on the majority of peoples most likely color association, I believe that this will aid someone to quickly find a particular item in the EDC Backpack by instinct during an emergency situation.

    What stands out to me about this setup is that it truly is an EDC pack. What you need is what you have. I keep similar stuff in my Trident 20. Thanks for sharing. As always, you have a great presentation!

      LearningToBePrepared Thanks! I did try to make this one a true EDC pack, and not a GHB or other survival type backpack.

    Medic here: definitely don't use the tampon for a bullet wound. Tampons are designed to absorb blood, yes, but not the volume involved with a bullet wound. They also break up quite often when saturated. That's why females swap them so often. You definitely don't want pieces of absorbent material inside of a wound. Debridement of an internal wound is not easy and leaves material conducive of infection... Good for females, but not for bullet wounds...
    If a patient has a bullet wound, or two or three or four or … you immediately protect yourself with nitrile gloves, face mask, and eye protection (splatter into the eyes = pathogen transfer.) immediately apply pressure to the wound(s) and elevate the wound. If the wound is on the trunk and direct pressure does not stop the bleeding (even with small calibers such as the 22 and 380, direct pressure rarely stops bleeding from a bullet wound) you should apply a hemostatic dressing INTO the wound and onto the wound. This hurts the pt. You're stuffing a hemostatic dressing into the wound. You need to mentally prepare the pt for this. Pretty much say "this is gonna hurt, but it's gonna help OK." Don't forget pressure. Hemostatic dressings laid on top of a wound offer no aid. Press it into the wound and continuously apply direct pressure.
    If the wound is on an extremely (arm, leg, hand, foot) and direct pressure doesn't stop the bleeding, you can apply a tourniquet ABOVE the wound. I've seen a few cases where bystanders applied the tourniquet below the wound... Always apply above... the tourniquet or hemostatic dressing should stop the bleeding. They can be used together on extremities.
    Once bleeding has been controlled, you absolutely have to treat and manage shock. The pt is susceptible to hypovolemic shock when massive blood loss occurs. You need to keep the pt breathing adequately and warm. Studies have shown that bending the knees offers no advantage to treating shock. You can do that if you wish, but know it is unnecessary and may put the pt in an uncomfortable position.
    You absolutely must be prepared to offer CPR in the event of a gunshot wound. Shock usually leads to cardiac arrest due to the hypoperfusion of the body's cells. If you come upon a pt suffering from a gunshot wound or wounds, the first thing you need to do is have 911 on standby. Call, put them on speaker, and start tending to the pt. It takes a whole 5 seconds... that's a lot of time, but EMS and ALS can do a LOT more than you or I can on your own.
    So the CAT tourniquet you have is awesome! I can't say thank you enough for having that! I would definitely suggest another pair of nitrile gloves, more sterile and absorbent gauze, and a hemostatic dressing.
    Great pack man! I love these videos!!! Please keep them coming!

    I have watched A LOT of EDC and BOB videos and while I get the contents and set up of most of the bags, many of the others seem just random and thrown together. I like the fact that you organize yours by need and separate the contents to make everything easier to find. I live in the city as well and spend a fair amount of time in my vehicle to and from work even though I live within 7 miles of my business. I have a small kit that compliments my main EDC bag and I often find myself wanting more organization in it. I really enjoyed the video and it gave me a lot more information and ideas than many other videos. Keep up the great work! Definitely gained a loyal subscriber tonight Take it easy and stay prepared!

    Nice to see a REASONABLE edc. I am to the point where I usually cringe when I see someone using the word "prepper" as that usually means they have 3 guns, 100 rounds of ammo, 5 knives, 3 multitools, 16 fire starting tools, 4 different shelters, more medical supplies than an ambulance (most of which they don't even have the training to use), a rocket launcher, and a bag of angry cobras.
    Not one time in your two part video did I go "wait why the hell are you carrying that?"
    Nice setup and clever organizing system with the colors.

    That little charging kit is SUCH a good idea! I need a compartment like that to put all of my cords and charging devices in. Love that hygiene kit, too. I have hygiene stuff and charging stuff and lots of stuff, but it's mostly just thrown in there, literally, lol. Also, I like that you carry the full size of stuff, like a full size neosporin instead of just trying to carry a one time use item. I digress, great stuff, so many ideas. You have inspired me! You're so well organized, that's something I definitely learn from you. Thank you!

    You will probably not see that comment because the video is not recent but what i like in watching videos like this is to « steal » ideas about organising my own bags. And when you have a lot of good ideas, my fav one is the way you organise everything. I do too because i think it is best that way. And i rarely see that in other videos. Thumbs up!

      TheUrbanPrepper My EDC pack really is my EVERY day carry pack. I've used it as my carry-on (and in one or two cases my only piece of luggage) a couple times since I started carrying it, so having a Dopp kit that just sort of lives in there makes packing that much easier.

    Only thing that is a personal quirk is the amount of stuff Hanging on the outside of the pack.
    Brings back memories of the old westerns where the chuck wagon came CLANKING along down the trail.

    as usual great video and gear. In my tier 2 EDC, which is a small DRAGO bag, I also carry items that I use everyday but I do gear it more towards urban survival. ie. extra flashlight, survival kit including fire starter, pry tools, cordage, extra magazines, fixed blade knife etc.
    thanks for sharing

    Love your videos!
    Just curious - don't your magnetized items throw off your compass?
    Also, check out justins.com for types of peanut butter, they have them in small pouches which is really nice for under $2 a pouch / 1.15oz for your snack kit.
    Do you have any reviews on solar chargers?

    Nice setup for an urban area. For a low key daypack I have the Maxpedition Testudo Laptop Backpack bag, though a little small for a day pack. The bag can hold a 17" or smaller laptop and the big inside pocket fits the AR500 soft Backpack Level IIIA Armor. Be careful for a backpack may label you as a homeless person and you may be shot by the police in ABQ (ABQ 2014 and in the Courts for now). Thank you for another great video ! tjl

    I really like your gear and thinking. have you thought about including some ear plugs and some safety googles - the kind that go over your glasses. if things go pair shaped things may get loud. or just to block out distractions.

    Cliff, a very well and organized video. I must be very anal in my organization and total amount of kit. My car get home Ruk is 30Kg and the one for my motor is 24Kg. Similar equipped, but more inclusive for four seasons. My INCH kit is 50Kg and I hope that it will never have to be used. My Comms module has a Ham radio, SAT phone and SPOT transponder as a last ditch emergency beacon. Thank you for a great video. Cheers, Mate.

    So I'm thinking about getting this backpack for a new EDC urban bag for school and preparedness, but it seems like the actual size of the pack might be to small. I'm about 6'1" and 215 pounds so I'm a pretty big dude. I'm just worried about this bag looking like a little kids backpack. But other than that I really like how the bag is and the organization. So if this is the case is there any others that are similar you'd recommend

    I'd like to see a track of how often the items are used? The big wrench - how often is that used?

    • @TheUrbanPrepper
      @TheUrbanPrepper  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      lalew2 The items that get used most often are the organizer, laptop, Electronics and Food modules. The external battery also gets used almost daily. The other items are more for emergencies and used more sporadically. The big wrench does not get used as often as my multitool, but it has saved the day a few times when I needed to use it for automobile activities and didn't want to strip the nuts. It's an optional item, but I like having the additional capabilities if ever needed.

    • @MrPsygo
      @MrPsygo 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      2dividedby3 He says that he changes it based on the season and that what is shown is just what he has in it currently.

    • @2dividedby3equals666
      @2dividedby3equals666 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      MrPsygo That is a good point, didn't considered that. The reason why I asked is because, where I live I don't get as much rain as he seems to, but weather here is too unpredictable here so I always have my umbrella on my bag. Since he always mentioned rain as a vital part of Seattle I thought he would always have some form of rain protection on his bag.

    • @TheUrbanPrepper
      @TheUrbanPrepper  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      2dividedby3 The version that I showed is more suited for the current weather (May/June). I will often times strap an umbrella on the top part of the backpack (e.g., top zipper pocket). I usually always have a jacket and hat when the weather calls for it, so I don't double those up in the bag.
