You can buy a decent VNA for the same price that does a lot more! The days of the old MFJ 259 are over. I own a SV4401 and it kicks ass.

Agreed the VNA does more but how many people actually require or want or can use all the that the VNA is capable of? I have a VNA and have used it a lot for antenna work, i have also used it for other purposes but, i'm no expert. The thing with the VNA is the setting it up for the different frequencies, the start end settings and the calibration, all of which takes time whereas the unit on test here requires none of that and so the job of scanning an antenna for swr is much quicker and easier.

I have the MFJ version which I bought used. In my opinion it is built a lot more rugged which makes it hold up better for field work, such as field day. It also has rechargeable batteries with long battery life. It has capitence adapters which work as a dummy load for calibrating the tester. I need to purchase the option carry case with shoulder strap.

I don't have the MFJ analyzer either, although 15 years ago I thought about buying one. On the other hand I saw a recent TH-cam video that compared the Nano Vna to MFJ's device and I assume with a high degree of certainty the guy doing the testing was an EE. I can't precisely remember if he actually used a lab quality analyzer to make the comparison, but believe he did. The consequent is buy the Nano Vna because MFJ's device has some significant limitations.
The TH-cam chanel could have been any of the well known electronic's type channel but seems to me to have been named similar to Electronics for the Inquisitive where the publication date was roughly a year ago.
Footnote: Rig Expert was tested too. While better than MFJ's device the Nano Vna still was most accurate.
Added: The video can be found here & is roughly 1 year old. It was quite interesting.

The Rig Expert analyzers are the ones to buy.
Save your money a little longer and avoid these chinese MFJ clones of 1980’s technology.

I have the mfj259, but since getting a nanovna haven't used the mfj much. I will say the mfj is a piece of cake to use in comparison especially if all you want to do is switch over to it from your transceiver for a quick tune up.

May or may not be the analyzer for me, but I do like having more options.

Cute, I got a cheapie that sweeps and an MFJ with 2 analog meters. Next step up is the Rig Expert!

That's a neat bit of kit, especially for farting around while out and about where you may be more apt to leave your more expensive gear at home. Very cool.

I swear, you have all the best toys!!! Sorry, the antenna analyzer was immediately upstaged as soon as the Sysjoint VNA came into frame. Super jealous, by the way! If I may ask, why did you go with the sv4401 and not the sv6301?? Cost or availability?? I’ve been drooling over the sv4401 since it was released, so congrats on procuring one. Do you know if there’s considerable difference between the hardware of the two VNAs or is it firmware.

NanoVNA has more features and is really easy to use (not to mention it is around 50$). This one does only a bit more than the MFJ259 does.

I'd have a difficult time justifying this at $275 on Amazon over the 4401 at $320, presuming that whomever is building that 4401 at that price is doing a competent job of it.

It may be a nice meter for beginners or people with a little budget. The meter looks nice but do not differ a lot from the MFJ types. The presented AW07A must be a Chinese clone of the MFJ ONE with minor changes. I use since January a brand-new RigExpert AA-1500 Zoom. That VNA runs from 0.1-1500MHz with many more features. Offcourse that VNA cannot be compared with the AW07A but if you want an affordable instrument you better save a bit more money and be a happy amateur for the rest of your life.

This looks very much the MFJ desigs ... with a touch of being outdated, antiquated or home-made.
