Audio Demo of DBX 160 Compressor/Limiter
This was recorded using Cubase Pro 14 and commercially available vocal and guitar loops for the best possible source quality and consistency.
A Focusrite 8i6 interface was used for the recording. The DBX unit was set up in Cubase as an “External Effect” and patched as an insert effect into a single track. Focusrite Output 3 fed the input of the compressor, and Focusrite Input 2 was used to capture the output of the compressor back into Cubase.

The exact same source materials (vocal loop and guitar loop) were used on two tracks: one with the compressor patched in as described, and one with no compressor in the signal chain. I matched the levels as best as I could. The threshold on the DBX was set so that the compressor did not engage (no Gain Reduction). This gives an accurate picture of any distortion that may be introduced by the DBX unit. Test #5 is included as requested to show the noise floor of the DBX unit. In the final test, the Threshold was set to Maximum with the guitar loop as source material.
