What my mom used to do was, place a small davara that's been greased on the outside, inside the paruupu dish. She'd place the puli, veggies & sambar podi with a pinch of salt in it. This way, you can cook more rice in a bigger vessel. Once cooker pressure releases, take out the puli, mash it with a little water, voila, sambar is ready. Alternately, she'd cook it with only b puli, tomatoes ( full with the eye removed), one red chili & one green chili. Take the red chili for sambar & the tomatoes n green chilles for rasam. Both were ready simultaneously. 60: 40 puli sharing, with paruppu kattu, coriander, ginger, milagu & jeeragam for rasam while getti paruppu along with thalichhu, vathakkina kaioda she'd add to sambar. Great for sudden guests. She'd call it 2 tier sambar & rasam !

Nice...I too make cooker sambar..but after taking veg tamarind mix from cooker I directly pour this mix in kadai which is ready with thalippu, so that the " pongina vaasanai " will not be there..

I have never used castor oil for cooking before, how much quantity should we use and what kind of castor oil should we buy? I hv only seen castor oil for hair in shops, can the same be used for cooking? If we add it to dal everyday whilst cooking is it safe?
