Sound bricks are some of the rarest LEGO bricks in sets. Only a handful of LEGO sound bricks have ever been created since the first one in 1986. From sirens to doorbells and alien sounds, LEGO has experimented with a wide variety of noises. Recently, the LEGO Harry Potter Talking Sorting Hat set was released introducing LEGO’s most advanced sound brick. This LEGO brick can say 31 unique phrases! Let’s explore the evolution of these special sound bricks.

Can you think a set that would benefit from a sound brick? I had a lot of fun making this video. I hope you enjoy it
Hi
lego Angry Birds.
You suggested R2-D2, and I can't think of a better set for sound a brick in its current form. If it were somehow integrated with Powered Up, sound bricks could be an awesome addition to Lego trains too.
Maybe speed champs
Star Wars imperial sett with the alarm sound.
The LEGO Minecraft set "The Diamond Sword Fortress" could've benefited from a sound brick. Imagine putting that disc in the jukebox and actually hearing the C418 Cat song?
Exactly my thought. Or that ancient city set and when you spawn the warden it actually makes the warden sounds. Or an enderdragon set with all the enderdragon sounds...
Oooh or what about a pillager raid set with a sound brick for the horn
Lego does NOT need any kind of phone app! Sound bricks=cool. Light bricks=cool. Battery bricks=cool. Motor bricks=cool. Phone app=NOT COOL. We don't need to make Lego unusable if your phone is dead. The biggest joy Lego brings is it's sophisticated simplicity. No phones!
Agree 100%! And if they take the servers down, you’ll never get that functionality back! Sound and light bricks are actual physical things that are part of the set, they’re real!
Yeah no, what about sound bricks that can play ANY SOUND THAT EXISTS!?! Vs 25 dollars per sound?
@@amandacourtney3519 You completely missed the point. What if your battery is dead? Then you lose that novelty. What if you don't have internet to download the needed app? Then you're gonna have to wait. 25 bucks a sound may be impossible for some, but it would break LEGO's simplicity, we love plastic bricks that you can build with. Not a button on your phone that plays a sound within the set.
@@dantecontreras887 just replace them, and plenty of apps can run without internet, I’m sure Lego could also do it. If you want to buy a fortune for being able to have the very few sounds sound bricks can make then sure, but what if you want to build, let’s say a Lego cat. They don’t have that sound as far as I know of, and what if you wanted to build something more obscure with sound, you ain’t gonna find that sound
What abt if you lose the instructions? I had to use the app because of that.
The Optimus Prime would’ve been legendary with a sound brick
So true
In color psychology, purple is associated, among other things, to magic and creativity - just see how many video game and superhero characters associated with magic just dress in purple. So it definitely makes sense for the brain/core of the magic hat to be purple.
The Talking Sorting Hat has not just the extra cost of the sound brick, but the brand tax.
Alongside the cost of getting the voice actor or using the old voicelines
Plus the cost of all the people who refuse to buy from them as long as they associate with someone actively working to oppress them.
@@keiyakins keep crying
@@keiyakinsI don't get it, pls explain.
@@cjsantiago4035 JK Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter books, is a well-known transphobe, antisemite, and stereotyper of minorities.
The 9V battery box, lights and spinny siren piece are some of my strongest memories of Lego when I was a kid. Kinda upset to learn they’re not particularly well regarded today!
I have some and they finally stopped working :(
They should’ve put a musical sound brick into the huge Pacman arcade cabinet to play the game theme song
SNES set with Mario too
Copywrite: what are you doing?
@@godzillaboi0967 Lego got the rights to Pacman for the set itself tho
@@justsomefox8910music copyrights and game copyrights are separate apparently
The possibilities of having a sound brick compatible with powered up would be amazing, it could be used that you upload the Powered Up app audios into the brick, that way we would have some sort of a library to upload different audio to cars, trains, or even MOCs
This.
It's great... until the not-so-great people start loading unsavory, inappropriate sound files to play on their sound bricks.
I'd hate to see all the raunchy custom sets those people would start making...
They could even just put a speaker in a hub block. This would allow for a bigger, better speaker and having it in multiple sets with outer functions without an extra part.
This!
I've built so many mocs that would benefit from customisable samples that can be triggered with a button.
in 1998 the Insectoids line had lights and sounds bricks. Indeed in 1999 with two sets 6454 and 6456 from the Space Port Line. These modules were powered by AA batteries.
Also Disney sets such as large buildable Simba, also Mario Kart when you pick up mystery boxes
Mario kart would most likely use the figure for all of its sounds.. like how they've been doing it for years in lego mario already
One sound brick I'd love is a Star Wars sound brick that not only has engine sounds, but also electronic contacts like the old electronic bricks that provide power to light bricks that could light up engines. This would not only make the set extremely cool, but it could be very versatile as you could put it in multiple sets, and it would also be very good for MOCs as well since it wouldn't be limited to one design.
One of my first sets as a kid was the Space Rocket 6454. The rocket engines at the base were one massive block that lit up and played 3 different sounds. Those sounds are burned into my memories for life :)
The ecto 1 would have been really nice with light and sound + rc function it would have been absolutely persect
You forget the Insectoid soundbrick that played three different sounds and had also flashing lights.
Duplo had light and sound for police and fire too
The Retro radio will probably have one too. Hence the price part ratio and the fact that it is a radio.
A marvel bridge scene with the avengers music playing would be a awesome
The point here is that you may get tired of this music over time, and you will have to turn on another one on your phone/headphones.
Just two things - 1st, Legoland Town didn't become known as 'City' until the 1990s. 2nd, In the 1980s, Lego did include different stickers for each country in their Train sets. BR for Britain, etc, etc.
6:45 this image broad back memories i didn't know i had, i never got the set because i was too small but it looked so cool
Cool! I still have the light&sound fire truck and police car. Loved it when i was young. I annoyed my parents so much with that beeping siren sound. 😁
6454 & 6456 ... space rocket and space shuttle ... powered by AA batteries, making noises and light effect ... still having this wonderful sets - not exactly sound brick, but still lights and sounds
4:57 now thats a *tthhhhhiiiick* brick
I agree that Ninjago sets would be great with sound bricks, imagine a dragon with one or a mech with a giant sword.
I'd imagine the 4x4 size is so more data can be stored.
Have you seen a micro sd card?
Thanks for sharing 😅
Absolutely not. The difference in physical size between storing one sound and thousands of sounds is negligible. The larger physical design constraints are the speaker and the battery.
Just to be clear, the LEGO IDEAS Lighthouse set doesn't include a lightbrick. It has a Technic battery box, a motor, and wired train headlights.
One of my kid relatives got the Mario set last Christmas. Being the AFOL in the family my jaw dropped at the amount of features on the box. I whisperd something like "That is definately more expensive then the robot dinosaur [X] got." Maybe he'll actuall become a big Lego fan. They've come along way since the light and sound shuttle set I got in 2000 (which you forgot to mention).
no mention of the Lego Insectoids theme soundbricks? watched the entire video waiting for that one to show up! kinda disappointing, I had one of those and I loved it!
I would imagine that with the Harry Potter sound brick, you also need to pay the actor who did the speech and the script writer who wrote the script. All these things add up
From the 80's I still have two original white Police 9V battery holders, two black sirens, a few plates with metal contacts and two lights without the colour caps ‒ these might be the rarest pieces in my big inherited box of mixed Lego. 🙂 Sadly all the manuals and catalogues are long gone, leaving me just a box of pieces and my not too vivid Lego creativity. 😐
Not sure when mine are from, but I have a police battery box, one from the airport fire truck (at 5:09) and a yellow one from a digger/trailer combo. Plus two of the twisty siren pieces, 3 four stud/two light pieces, one single light, a wire piece, two 8 or 10 stud pieces with 3 lights in the sides each and two lightable roadworks signs. I used some of them to make a scanner bar for the Technic Super Car so I could pretend it was KITT from Knight Rider!
@@mb2000 Cool. When I was younger I didn't knew much about things and we never tried purring battery into the actual holder, I don't know why. I tried pinching two wires between two electrical conducting Lego plates to get things working, but that was just a short "experiment". Later when I got older I finally put in a battery to try it out properly, the whole thing was kinda "meh", I stored away the electric things separately from all the other Lego I have ‒ I forgot where I put them.
I had the red motorcycle. Loved it. But it had more sounds. If you kept holding it down, it would making a racing sound for as long as you held it down.
one idea is add the sound block as part of a set upgrader like the unofficial ones to light the titanic or colosseum
to be fair, tiny speakers always sounds... tiny. It's a physical limitation.
Just compare to model trains with sounds. The quality is always on the low-fi side, despite a sound fitted loco being in the realm of a 200+$/£/€ purchase.
There are tricks to do better though, like used in phones via a chamber of tiny plastic balls.
I’m not sure much people cared about the old sets, but now we’re gullible Lego-buyers
Yea
I think many Lego sets would benefit from a sound brick playing the song "We`re in the money" to remind us of the price we just payed...
Dang I was really sure I had Lego with lights and sound back in the 80s, but when you brought up the Light & Sound System and showed that firetruck set...... OMG MEGA NOSTALGIA!!!!
Oh man..... that Space Robot too!!!!!
You forgot to add some really big bricks from the late 90’s. City space and alien sets came with big but cool light and sound bricks. Set number 6454 and 6907
I love the old light and sound bricks. I don't care for the Sorting Hat, but I'm excited to see what other sets they put the new sound brick in
A sound brick in the upcoming Artemis Rocket set would be incredible!!!
All the Powered Up Sets have special sounds in the app - having those sounds come from the vuild itself would be much more interesting.
"the clasic space theme was another logical choice for sound bricks"
Is it, now?
I want a lego sound brick that you can record/choose the sound for it
so glad one sound brick justifies 100 bucks,
The recently announced LEGO Icons NASA Artemis Space Launch System (10341) would be insane with sound
the hallway where darth vader comes in in the first movie with a sound brick that plays the imperial march
would be ,,dayum''
I remember having the police vehicle in the 80s
You should check out the Duplo trains. Their light, sound and Bluetooth capabilities are impresive
You didn't mention lego rocket and insectoids bricks which had both light and sound bricks.
WHAT? I never knew that lego had sound bricks, I allways knew the light up bricks but dang that’s rare
There were more sound bricks in Insectoids and a Town Space Shuttle.
1:19 Photos from Russia in the 90s, in such stores you could buy LEGO, boots, pirated cartridges for NES and SEGA and other
I can’t wait until the brick says “What -what's wrong with being adopted? Um. Well... lack of parents, for one.”
wheatley portal 2 reference?
Hacking those soundbrics to play other lines and prank peoples should be fun.
Meanwhile Sembo has a sound brick with Bluetooth and you can make it say everything 😂
There's one more sight you guys forgot about. That has sound and lights There was a fire hall set and it has fire truck. A fire truck that goes it. I noticed that while I was in arcade last year. I was doing a part of the program where we made stuff.
And this stuff was lego.
The Firetrucks by LEGO Duplo also come with Light and Sound Bricks
Lego train set with some brick would be really awesome
I think that the Boarding the Tantive VII set would be so cool if it had like a Darth Vader breathing sound brick or Imperial March sound brick also a big red light brick to make a cool scary scene
I own one of the police sound bricks. Quite a bit of fun, until the batteries run out.
really i did not know, i only know about the 1989 police car with light and sound and i reallt thought that was no more... i was wrong thanks of this video
I got this set for my birthday, It’s amazing. I would definitely recommend!
Sorting Hat has a license fee as well which increases the price. And the eyes and mouth move too.
i had the house bell set love that one
I just had to grab my monster dino and press the button. He still roars!
nice video spitbrix
Lego Pokémon with sound all the contacts you need right there
Would be nice to have a sound brick that could connect to ones pc, for adding your own soundfiles.
I think a Jurassic World set with a sound brick would be good.
Anyone remember the Duplo Explore sound bricks? Lovely sound design on those.
My Lego set that talks to me is telling me to let the voices in my head win
In one of the pictures of the sorting hat it has two tips of the hat
Pacman arcade would be cool with sound
The Lego ideas guidelines could be one. Of your videos. 11:17
You forgot the Lego set 4996, Beach House, LEGO® Creator
It also had the barking dog ring bell piece it was also one of my favourite Lego sets back when i was a kid
I really wish they would bring back the monorail.
I have the hook and ladder truck set and it still works and the spaceship
I feel an important set was left out of this, 6907 the Sonic Stinge from 1998, it utilized a unique sound and light brick that ran off of AA Batteries.
Sound bricks are awesome (not worth $50 in the sorting hat though)
Lego should bring back sound bricks in police, fire, and ambulance sets. Maybe speed champions would be good for sound bricks, as long as its not more expensive
11:04 I tried sending an email with an instructions mistake multiple times, with no response
I am shocked you didn't mention the sound blocks for Insectoids theme :3
They should do Smell, Taste and Color Change.
I actually have three battery boxes that appeared ages ago ,one white ,one yellow and one black however I can only find one of the little light bricks unfortunately no sound bricks
I think Star Wars should have a sound brick with blaster sounds and droids! Idk I see lots of potential with a sound brick for Star Wars for sure!
my son so dum he try to make freinds thay call him king kong
Only Lego can make you pay 50$ of soundbrick that costs 2$
man i have the really old brick light thing
imagine a way to make a customizable sound brick, then it would be worth 40 bucks. imagine this you build something, such as a train and you decide to add some sound so you can add chugging noises and a whistle or you want to take the same sound brick and use it on something else also im pretty sure lego could use a external battery such as powered up to recharge the coin battery in the sound bricks
I mean, with current technology, I can't imagine itd be a stretch to make a block where you can just add a usb port and put your own sounds in.
Itd be a bit more expensive for sure, but itd play far more into the "make your own" mentality of lego.
That is a super interesting idea.. would be kinda cursed though just a lego brick with a usb port in it lmao
I actually have the sorting hat, so there you go
"4x4x1"
I'm pressing F to doubt.
At best, it looks like it's four by four by one and one third.
It still has better price than The Hoopty from Marvels.
I hope there's a soundbrick you can programmed
I really didn't know about some of the sets.
Imagine the Lego idea sets
Never had a lot of Lego, but I remember the figures for the*ahem* advanced (technic) and had 3 carry cases of K'nex.. wonder if you can look into both
you should be able to record by pressing and holding the button on the soundbrick
my first thoughts were that it looked like the poop emoji
there was a lego agents sound brick i remember
Spit Brix… We need Lego ninjago videos!!! Like the old days
I wish they did this for a newer Lego R2D2 if one existed.
Dear lord rumor has it there is going to be a set like the R2D2 one but with C3PO for $50 more, I have a feeling its going to have a sound brick guys.
I STILL HAVE MY OCTAN SOUND BRICK
