I love this running gag cause it’s brilliant foreshadowing. Cause every time George brings up the money in the banana stand he looks away and says it quietly so you can understand why he’s being slightly cryptic cause having that much money could get in trouble with the irs if you just suddenly acquired it
I don’t know who’s more at fault. George senior for not explaining in enough detail to be clear or Michael for not being curious enough to seek clarification
The greatest payoff to a long-running joke in television history. Michael's final "thats what she said" in Dwight's wedding on The Office is a close second.
I just now just noticed that when he says "There's always money in the banana stand", he just clicks his mouth to give out a better hint that Michael either didn't notice or too stupid to know what it meant lol
What makes this even funnier is that you can see the guard looking at them before he yells NO TOUCHING, which implies he waited for Senior to have his say. What a respectful prison guard.
While the build up to this punchline is absolutely brilliant, it’s also kind of sad and sweet because George was actually trying to help out the family by “slyly” hinting to Michael about the stash of money.
0:15 If George Sr. is that calm, he must've thought that Michael took out all the money before burning the banana stand just so he can mess with his old man. Like seriously why couldn't Michael try breaking the banana stand with sledgehammers before thinking about burning it down?
Who's at fault is michael?.Michael never got the tick when his dad kepted hinting by the tick his father did several times should of been an easy hint.
It is a good joke, but a massive plot hole in arrested development. In season 2 we discover that the banana stand is annually destroyed by youngsters. Not the best place to hide 250k, George sr.
This is far and away one of the most clever and iconic jokes in TV history haha
When I first heard that quote I thought he meant money in the cash register. It took me awhile to understand what he meant.
@@randykane11597 he could also be saying the banana stand is a source of income
This is up there with Kramer losing the contest in Seinfeld
@@kmac1130 that's what I thought too so when the punchline was delivered in this scene it caught me off guard and was hilarious 😂

I this case it's not an IRS thing, but a fraud thing.
And never forget he had so many charges I was 100% the feds were watching and listening to him
Not only being hush hush about him saying it but the little tongue click he does like saying “I’m doing double speak here Michael”
Love how they hit you with 2 ongoing jokes at the same time
It's like a joke crossover
While people focus on the Always Money joke, the real hidden and built up joke to me was always the “NO TOUCHING”
NO TOUCHING
NO TOUCHING.

_some of you screws are alright, dont come to the yard tomorrow_
You know, George, you could have said "There's LITERALLY money IN the banana stand."
there are too many gaurds
This is no parks and rec, maybe if Chris was in arrested this never happened
Visitation is monitored because they can dry snitch on themselves, and he is in prison for fraud. That money would be seized.

Thanks for uploading this, the other upload of this on youtube cut out George Senior's hilarious 'clicking'
exactly
Exactly! This one is done better imo.
Senior seems close to hysterics when shaking Michael
The fact that Takin’ Care of Business is playing in the background makes this even funnier for some reason 🤣
The smugness of his son
"kek, kek." That was the signal dummy Michael.
The first episode i wasn’t interested at all, but once this joke hit, I WAS HOOKEDDD!!
One of the best set up/payoffs in tv history.

Because it was George Michael’s idea to burn it down. Michael just let it happen.
He only clarified after Michael burned it down lol
yeah, cause at that point, there was no longer any reason to hide that information from the guards
"kek, kek" Michael was not paying attention. Visitors are being monitored in prison.

Preserves the flavour, you see.

“How much clearer could I be?” Not all that much clearer if you were speaking in an unsecure location.
Michael Did some Detective Work on who burned downed the Storage unit, but didn't do Detective work on the Banana Stand? C'est la vie.
Oooh, I thought he was saying Bananistan like the country.
Lol I remember the line.. I do NOT remember that noise..

The father sounded delusional.
