Amazing video. Not only printed a whole set, but reviewed creators along the way, assembled all minis and painted them. And provided a machine review on top of that. Most youtubers would split this into 3 - 5 videos. This is top quality and should see more exposure within 3d printing community.

Lol that remark around the 7:30 mark, i 100% agree with, i literally unboxed my saturn 3, leveled the plate, dialed the resin in, and have been non stop printing for 3 months, no adjustments besides throwing a heater in the room it prints. Its a science that has been well documented and easy to follow along with. Not an art in itself.

I agree with your assessment of "not a hobby". I've had a AnyCubic for a couple years now and I have just run gallons of resin through it with little to no messing around with it. I have to change the FEP occasionally and the standard "cleaning out the vat" chores, but aside from that it's just another consumer electronic device. One of the wonders of 3D printers is how much they just work.

"Resin isn't a hobby of itself"
(-Posibility of shotty supports needing even more cleanup on the mini)
    -Needs a curing station
    -Needs a washing station
-Resin is toxic only to be handled by gloves
    - A whole setup will run you around 600$
    - Very space intensive
It is absolutely a hobby in itself, don't make it look to be as easy to pick up as a fda printer with some filament

Thank you so much for making this video, I picked up one of these and the mercury x during the prime day sale. Actually, had quite a few issues with amazon sending me first the wrong printer and then a damaged one, finally the third one works and is amazing. But I have been lacking in knowledge, pretty much just going at it and making whatever I have wanted, which is great but sometimes the prints turn out poorly or I don't understand settings. Finding this video has been a greet teaching moment and I cannot wait to dive in more when I have time to make even more high-quality prints. Oh, and that carbon filter works in my opinion, at least with water washable resin. I have had no issues keeping it running at my hobby desk, however I do have a bottle of normal resin as a gift so it will be spending some time the garage when I get around to using that up.

Deserved a sub! Funny you mentioned at the end about the Z lift at the end of print. On my saturn 2 it is more of a bug due to build volume and height. Causing the resin to splash all over inside the cover which slightly melts the acrylic cover. This was remedied with a quick email to support and a firmware update so that it now lifts about half way up (depending on print size) which is plenty enough to remove the prints already. However I still understand your point having owned Longer orange 10 which did not really lift after finishing the print. rant over anyway will def check more videos and your STLs and if I like what I see Ill toss in a coffee

It’s not that it’s a hobby in itself, it’s that you need a separate, well ventilated space that’s only for 3D printing. It’s that most of the materials you’re working with are really really nasty. The risks are very real. The fumes, the resin, the alcohol, the mess. That’s why I walked away before I started.

    • @OnceinaSixSide
      @OnceinaSixSide  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Fair concerns to have! I actually made a whole video about those fumes and making it safe in a shared space. The point I was trying to make is that it doesn't have to be this thing that consumes a lot of time or energy. It can be as easy as just slicing files and hitting print.

These are great points. I love the results I'm getting, but there's a LOT of icky cleanup and maintenance, even when you get to the stage where you know what you're doing.
I think we have a responsibility to make it clear to people that you're not buying a replicator from Star Trek when you buy a printer. 3D printing is an investment in time and money.
The "it's a hobby in itself" message is an easily-understandable shorthand for this. I'm glad I was warned what to expect, and it certainly tallies with my personal experience.

I have an Anycubic photon mono 2. I am blown away by resin 3d printing. It’s amazing at how this machine can print just about anything with no he amounts of detail it produces. I haven’t had to mess with the settings at all and I have had perfect prints on about everything that I have printed. I have had only 2 failed prints on this machine and that was my fault, lol. I had corrupted files, go figure. But with that being said it is well worth the money to get one of these machines be it Anycubic or any other brand. I encourage it thoroughly.

Great video! I come from the Gundam side of the plastic crack addiction and am very new to minis. The thing I'd love to see with minis is part separation(gold trim separated from the rest of the armor on chaos models) and snap building, a.k.a. push to fit. If there are any 3D printing creators out there that do offer such products I'd love for you to review them so I can later support them. Cheers!

Look up Toymakr 3D. He makes 3d printable gunpla kits. Mainly Power Rangers, but also anime like Macross and cartoons like Transformers. You assemble them in bits just like Gunpla and they're really fun. You do have to support each piece individually if you do it in resin like I'm doing.

What a great video, from printer review to mini maker review to cool paint schedule ideas, just... *Chef kiss* i do have a suggestion tho, you can use some leftover supports to put in the vat before using the self cleaning function, it will give something to grab onto and peel the cured sheet of resin instead of having to take a dip :)

Great job you did and a really awesome video. It also helped me to realize that GW minis and terrain still look way better then 3d printed.
    Cheers !

Love this video!! And your content!!
    Follower and fan.
I know this is an older video, and don’t know if it’s been mentioned, but dialing in your resin printer is also HUGE with getting prints to come out right. Lot of people just go right in without doing this and lead to bad prints, no prints or issues.

First video I've watched and I don't even 3d print. This was such an interesting video thanks so much! I might actually get into 3d printing just from this video alone
