I kind of am torn on this guy. I would add it to my server (am pretty much adding all vanilla-esque fitting creatures) but the binoculars feels too cheaty to me. For people who generally play with super spyglass or something I’m sure it fits in, but I personally try to play vanilla so I’m picky on new tame abilities haha Literally if the binocular feature wasn’t there I’d install it already, I like the max level detection and heat vision is perfectly fine, I love the tank feature for taming, it’s not OP because you can’t move while doing it, and I also just love more mammals getting added in general
If it helps you get off the fence: this mod feels pretty vanilla to me, it doesn't do anything that you can't already do in the game (my definition of vanilla), you mention the super spyglass so I'm sure you're aware that the Tek binoculars do exactly what the spyglass can do and more so unless you're disabling Tek on your server you already have access to this dinosaur's abilities. further comparing it to the tek binoculars, you still have to do a pretty big trade off for being able to use the ability pre ascension: the mod version doesn't let you track creatures, doesn't have a zoom, and ultimately is locked to a creature that can't fly or fight particularly well. The super spy glass feels cheaty to me because its basically obtainable right off the bat, the Sivatherium's version doesn't have most of the Tek binocular's features, is locked behind a lvl 71 saddle and again doesn't do anything you can't already do in game. Hopefully that gives you the enough of a push to try it, I've been playing with it all afternoon and its just feels really fun to use
@@MoonlightKingfisher Everything you say is true, although I could argue that the tek binocs being locked behind ascension (essentially) equaling how OP they are as they are legit the last thing that you can unlock in ASA rn. There’s not much point to beating all three bosses and ascending if I can do the most fundamental things that the binocs can do with a creature, at least to me. You’re probably right though.
You should still give it a try. It's really not that op you're just looking for high base stats while the bonus stats after you tame a creature get added on randomly. They really don't do anything to break the game.... you get to use it once you spend hours looking for that high level Dino LOL

I'd like my mods to fill niches that haven't been fleshed out much or at all (as I'm sure many modders do!) so it's a case of finding and choosing a niche, and then deciding what creature fits best from there. Some ideas I'm throwing around at the moment include a successor to the doedicurus (ankys have magmasaurs, beavers have thornys/roll rats) or perhaps a late game creature that is small.

Now THIS is a creature that could so easily be mistaken as official. Its got the looks. And it's not too shabby. That's a testament of the quality of these mods. Ark might not be perfect. But the creativity is endless. You got to admit that

UGH the biggest problem with ASA (besides the bugs) is I just wanna download every cool creature mod I see but I want to keep some of the base game charm and creatures, I'm on the fence of just saying screw it tho considering I have 6 creature mods I already wanna check out

Agreed! I do wish it could be toggled, like the Megatherium sit animation. It'd be so lovely to have around in the base. Maybe without the defence modifier if having an external tank is too much
TDR: There are cool herbivores in game, they were just shit on and need buffs to make them proper. Trike should be equal to rex in damage and tank, need slight speed buff. Stego has plenty of damage and tank to match the big theropods but its never gonna be fast. Change bronto neck to match its family, rename it apatosaurus because bronto is much smaller in mass and height. Make all sauropods in game have at least one stop attack and tail attack. Add in Garuda's brachi. Add in a ratite (rhea, ostrich, kiwi, emu, cassowary, moa, and elephant bird.) Moa and elephant birds being the largest and the only two of the group that are extinct. A note on there being cool herbivores. There are several, some in ARK. They just got shit on as early or mid tames and are slow. I love the overhauls that make a trike faster and equal to rex in combat as well as raising its saddle level to match. Stego also should be equal to many large theropods, though it will always be slower. Many sauropods can take on large theropods just fine. Diplodocus is just sad what they did to it. Honestly they need to rename the bronto to apatosaurus (still have the platformsaddle) considering both apatosaurus species are bigger than brontosaurus. Bronto is the same length but smaller in mass and height. Also fix its damn neck shape. Give it a neck proper posture to the diplodocidae family. I think if they added in Garuda's brachi and gave all sauropods in game a stomp attack and a tail attack, then the sauropods would be good. Also if you look at post dinosaur herbivores you can find a wide range of creatures. We already have a terror bird which is the titanis going by its size in game (don't know why they didn't just call it that), but they could add in an elephant bird like aepyornis maximus standing just under 9.8ft tall and weighing in with a wide estimated range of 610lb-2,200lb (funny side note on aepyornis, it is the largest ratite and its closest living relative is the kiwi bird which is the smallest ratite, not the other large ratites like emu. Elephant birds and moa being the only ratite groups that are extinct). The moa would be another possibility about 12ft tall and 510lb.
Love the creature, i wish the mod was out when i was starting my playthrough. The only thing i dont like is its too floaty jump, otherwise perfect companion.
That attack speed is too fast and that jump distance is just ridiculous. Feels like a Kangaroo sized jumper and a raptor attack speed, hell i don't think even raptors attack that fast.
