@@mm4chelle Yes! I have had this twice and it makes me not want to have anymore even though we had plans for a huge family. It makes me sad thinking about it.
I would love a Collab with Colleen Ballinger now that she's also a twin mom! And another youtuber from New Zealand, Black Friday (Freya), had a very interesting pregnancy. I would love to hear you talk to both of them!
My favorite part of this episode is the 3 kids quietly eating breakfast- all seated in their chairs while their dad is freaking out on the phone with their mom. It’s so surreal lol.
Ikr? Three kids under the age of 6 sitting quietly eating breakfast while their dad is freaking out on the phone? Forget the tied tubes, this is the most unlikely thing to happen in this episode :D
I saw a mom with a group of 4 children walking around an amusement park. The mom wore a shirt that read, "My favorite mythical creatures are vampires, werewolves, children who listen."
It’s crazy to me that so many types of birth control fail, and people get pregnant when they’re aggressively trying not to. Meanwhile, some of us are actively trying with no luck. The female anatomy is wild 🤣
@@summerviator5966 right! I waited until my mid 30s when I felt the most stable. Then I found out both my tubes are blocked and had to do IVF!!! Thankfully I’m pregnant but I don’t think I’ll try for another. It’s draining and expensive.
Agreed. 4 months of nothing. A friend of mine has been trying for around a year. They thought she was infertile. They got tests done, turns out, HE'S sterile.
The fiancé asking "are you sure?" is probably because of the shock. My boyfriend asked "how?" when I told him I was pregnant! We were actively trying to get pregnant and he's a grown ass man who knows how babies are made! Now he denies having said that but he absolutely did and it was so funny.
My husband said something similarly disbelieving in the same situation, I was so confused by his response that I didn't know what to say at first! I was finally like, "I don't think false positives on pregnancy tests are a thing".
EMS worker here - it is very possible she did not go to the hospital after the car wreck. Many people are very reluctant to go for financial reasons, and it's not like we can force them, so I was not at all surprised unfortunately
Yes, we refused medical attention after our wreck and my mother unfortunately now has permanent damage and chronic pain that may have been treatable at the time. We had good insurance but hell no were we about to pay for an ambulance ride!
Re: the car accident... she's a young working mother in the US. I wouldn't be surprised if the medical attention she got after the accident basically amounted to a paramedic checking her for signs of a concussion and then telling her to seek medical attention if she thought she needed it, which she then decided she didn't, because the medical system in the US is a joke, and lots of people avoid going to the hospital unless they think they're actively dying because of money issues.
I mean, is it routine to get a pregnancy test if you go to the hospital for something else? It probably should be, but I’ve only had to go to the ER in the US once, when I had a bad case of mono, and they didn’t do a pregnancy test.
@@jglobetrotter2830 They might if they collect your urine, just because they already have it available. The ER has collected my urine maybe 50% of the time depending on why I'm there.
It depends, she had 3 kids and was in a stable, long-term relationship/marriage. I have a friend who is 37, and a single mum of 5 kids, who was turned down for tubal ligation because there is a possibility that she could meet a man and want more kids.
I was 23 when I got mine tied. I had one child already and got it done after having my second. Not married. Just had to find a doctor who would do it. I was sure and still am that I don’t want anymore children. Very content with my little family 👩👦👦😊
Some doctors sure are weird. A male friend of mine (after having 1 kid and not wanting more), tried to get a vasectomy but the doc said "no, you may be married, you may be like 40 years old.. but we don't know if you won't want another kid in the future". I don't unterstand those docs. It's one thing to say "Think about it and come back in like 2 months" after having a talk about pros and cons but its another thing to just say no.
I work in maternal health and the only person I've ever seen strongly encouraged to not get a tubal ligation was a woman who discovered she was pregnant during the appointment. It was 2 months after the birth of her 5th child, poor love.
So, when I was in college, my anatomy and physiology professor told us a story about her friend. We were doing our study of the reproductive system and she told us that her friend and her husband decided they were done having kids, so she got a tubal ligation. She got pregnant. After that surprise, the husband got a vasectomy. The wife got pregnant AGAIN. My professor said she never would have believed it was true if she didn't actually personally know the couple.I have no idea what the odds of that happening are, but I thought you'd find it interesting.
I mean, with the current world population, we can expect a 1 in a billion chance to happen seven times. It's just that we never expect to meet one of those seven.
Happened to a relative of mine- not twice but THREE times! Her husband had a vasectomy, baby #5 born. She had a tubal, baby #6 comes. She gets a second tubal and along came baby #7!! I can't remember what exactly they did after that, but #7 was thankfully their last! 😂😂
At this rate I think I will stick with fertility tracking, condoms, and a urine pregnancy test right after my period every month! Now I am wondering how many years I should wait after menopause before we ditch the condoms, if ever...
People like this OB are partial to being a quack. When I find that an OB hardly engages in active research and improving women’s health rather than relying on what currently exists, I take their perspective as light as a grain of salt. I noticed she always turns to facts when something comes up that she didn’t expect and has an excuse for everything rather than state the very real truth that women’s health is still a developing and there’s much that is unknown or misunderstood.
Right?? I have tokophobia so anytime I have to take a pregnancy test (I got sterilized and don't have tubes so there's only a 0.00000000001% chance) I dread a positive diagnosis. I'd have to call in a diagnosis for abortion next lol
If you have a uterus and you're serious about not having children, consider getting a bilateral salpingectomy (sal-pin-geck-to-mee, 'geck' as in 'gecko') instead of a tubal. In a tubal they clamp/cut/burn the tubes. In a bilateral salpingectomy they remove the tubes completely. The failure rate of a bilateral salpingectomy is lower than that of a tubal because the tubes are totally gone. This also provides some protection from ovarian cancer as some types actually originate in the fallopian tubes, not the ovaries. It's a laparoscopic procedure, you can go home the same day, and it's usually covered by insurance the same as a tubal.
Do doctors actually do this though… because I can’t find one who will do anything despite me never wanting kids. I get told “what if your future husband/boyfriend want them”
@@toroallin5734 you have to find the right doctor to do it. There are lists somewhere of doctors who are willing to do the operation on people without children. I don't know exactly where you can find it, but you could look for it.
Yeah for the first few months I started bleeding on the exact day I would’ve gotten my period had I not been pregnant. My doctor theorized that maybe it was my body trying to keep up with routine but idk. I agree somebody needs to look into it more!
40 years ago, I asked for a tubal ligation and found my husband had to also sign before the hospital would do it. I had been pregnant at the time so it would be after the pregnancy or during a c section if required. In the meantime, my husband learned how big the surgery would be for me when it was just an office visit for a vasectomy . He went ahead and had the vasectomy, only I didn’t have to sign anything. Are they still making women get their husbands permission while men can decide on their own?
Even today, doctors can be sexist with scheduling tubal ligations. A woman could need to be married, have kids and be dead sure she doesn't want more. I want to add, if a medical professional brushes off your concerns without explaining why you shouldn't be worried, try seeking out a new doctor.
I had my tubes tied at 21 after my second child was born, that was 13 years ago and I also had to get a signature from my then husband on the form. I had it done directly after my planned c-section. The form had to be signed 4 months ahead of time. They said it your even a day late then clearly your not that adamant about not having anymore kids so they wouldn't accept it if so. Luckily my ex husband didn't want anymore kids either or I would have been at his will. It took me 3 years to get divorced from him bc he refused to sign the papers just to be spiteful so I'm sure if he had wanted to keep me barefoot and pregnant he would have refused signing for my tubal.
At 23 I had mine done with my second c section and wasn't married to the father of my kids so my OB never asked him. She just asked me and my mom if we were sure right before my surgery and we both said "hell yes" without hesitation haha.
Yep they still asked my partner if he was okay with it too. 🤦♀️ Meanwhile he had his done about a week ago while I’ve been in the process for 9 months now to get mine done too. I’ve known since I was 16 that I never want kids, am 32 now. It sucks, I just want to get it over with.
This is such an interesting case, thanks MDJ!! It proves the importance of why we always do pregnancy tests when female patients of reproductive age come in. Even with tubal ligation or “ongoing periods” (PV bleeding), there is still a chance of pregnancy. And missing a pregnancy or ectopic pregnancy could have awful consequences!
Facts! When I had my bilateral salpingectomy, I felt comfortable in its effectiveness because I was only able to find one documented case of this procedure failing (as defined by the patient accidentally becoming pregnant later), and reassuringly that paper did say they too were unable to find any other evidence of this procedure ever having failed and they conjectured that the case they reported on stood a chance of being the only failure ever observed ... BUT THAT'S STILL A NON-ZERO CHANCE! Yeah most likely the procedure was done poorly or otherwise not up to current standards in some way -- BUT STILL! There are virtually never 100% guarantees in anything in medicine and I wish people would grasp that lol.
I always get so annoyed when I go to the doctor for, say, pneumonia, and they'd ask when was my last menstrual cycle. After watching these videos I'll be way less annoyed the next time they ask 🤣
I can’t get pregnant after cancer treatment and I don’t have a partner who could get me pregnant. Obviously I understand the medical necessity of checking, but every time it’s rubbing salt in the wound.
The reality of being one of those 10-13 in 1,000 is something I cannot describe. I have 1 ovary, and had tubal litigation during c-section with my youngest. Two months ago after being admitted to hospital for severe sickness which turned out to be hyperemesis, I was informed I was 9 weeks pregnant. My own local doctor whom I had already had appointments with never even considered a pregnancy test the odds were so low. I got 4 days to get used to the idea before I went through a ridiculous amount of trauma miscarrying, on the 3rd day I was admitted back in to hospital and went through things I will never forget. Sorry to anyone who took the time to read this, I know it's only my story but I never ever thought anything like that would happen to me...just make sure you are fully informed of every little thing that could happen x
Yeah I think another commenter said that their doctor suggested not to do the ligation until weeks after the cesarean bc the tube would be swollen and if done then the tubes might go back to normal having a bit of wiggle room for an eggs to slip by
My friend had a surprise pregnancy. She went to two doctors and they couldn’t figure out what was wrong with her. She went into labor…thought she was dying. Had a healthy baby girl. When she told me, I was shocked and then said to her “didn’t your doctors run a urine test?”
I've been pregnant 3 times, live vaginal birth 3 times, all healthy and full-term. I 100% had my period for the first trimester of all three pregnancies, confirmed by each doctor I'd had for each child (different doctors for each kid as I was in different places of my life). I did NOT know I was pregnant with my first child due to having regular periods, my doctor was sending me to have my thyroid checked, as I'd been having unusual symptoms but also having regular periods; I was pregnancy tested and turned out I was pregnant. At the ultrasound it was discovered I was already into my second trimester. When I got pregnant with my second child, I knew based on a physical reaction to meat lol, I was still having my periods and was actually on my period when I got pregnancy tested, they did a pelvic at that appointment as I was currently bleeding, they discovered I was in fact having a period; that period lasted it's normal five days, I continued having periods for two more months. My third, I knew right away I was pregnant (experienced at this point ;) ) and, again the doctor was concerned I was still having periods and so they wanted to see me the next time I'd had my period, so I went in and they did a pelvic exam and also determined I was in fact having a true period. The periods stopped, again in my second trimester. So, I don't know the anomaly there, but it IS possible to have real and true periods while pregnant.
It is impossible. You’ve now had two doctors tell you. Maybe you misunderstood. Bleeding? Yes. But the endometrial lining will not shed during pregnancy as this will cause miscarriage. Take care. ❤
@@everythingrebekahlorraine for sure! The price is a huge difference, but if I recall there is a bigger focus on midwifery in New Zealand. I’m interested to see how that plays a role in the delivery room as it would mean a larger focus on complicated births at hospitals. Though I haven’t done a ton of research in recent years, and not sure if I’ve ever looked specifically at NZ for their prenatal care and post natal outcomes.
@@karawbear I live in NZ and originally from the UK. Here in NZ (I’ve had a baby here) you can get a midwife throughout your pregnancy for free who does all prenatal visits, checks, blood and urine tests, prescriptions for anything you need including antibiotics etc, they’re there for the birth, and do 6 weeks of home visits/postnatal care :) including weighing the baby and tracking growth, helping with feeding. There are also hospital midwives on hand during labour and delivery and they’re also there if people don’t want an independent midwife. Generally an obstetrician would only be required if the person requires a c section or if there are any complications throughout pregnancy/labour, and normally they would just consult at the level that MDJ is at. Any clinics they run would consist of more complex things rather than just general pregnancy and baby updates. If someone came into A&E with a pregnancy related problem or complications like hyperemesis or bleeding etc and needed to be admitted then the junior doctor (house officer or registrar for O&G) would generally see the patient in A&E and if they were admitted it would be under the consultants name, and they would lead the ward rounds in hospital for the gynae patients. So I guess it’s quite different. Everything is also free. Hope that helps. Any other questions id be happy to answer :) obviously MDJ would know more about the specifics of her job and be able to compete to the USA, which I know little about
@@greenerpasturesgrl that absolutely sounds quite different! In the USA there are not proper standards for midwifery laid out so I could technically tell people I’m a midwife and not get in trouble for it. Because of this midwifery is not common and often discouraged as a whole by physicians regardless of the individual qualifications. Not to mention, insurance hardly ever covers a midwife or a doula and so you pay thousands out of pocket for their services. I have not had my first live birth yet so I don’t have personal experience, but I do plan to find a midwife who has nursing certifications (since as mentioned that is not required) to help me through birth. I’m not sure I’ll be able to afford postnatal midwifery though as that costs extra in most cases. I hope MDJ makes a comparison video that encompasses the diversity of care in the USA while making the comparison of the separate countries, because state by state it can change how dangerous it is to give birth.
My mom has her tubes tied after having her third child. A few years later, she and my dad were more financially stable and owned their own home and they started to regret the tubal ligation. They were wishing that they could have another baby and BAM! She got pregnant with me.
This is literally my worst nightmare. Lol. I had tubal ligation with c-section of my second. I was 32. My two were the result of failed birth control. First one the pill, second Nuva Ring. I was on the table and the doc asked me if I was sure I wanted to do it. I said not only am I sure. If it fails Imma come find you. She laughed... I didn't. So far so good... Of course I use an IUD as well. I'm really, really done tho.
Genuinely curious, how did the birth control fail? Were you on antibiotics? Or didn't take it at the same time, or-with the ring- not take it out or put in when you were supposed to? I'm always curious how these things happen
@@jessiebouclier4776 the ring was used as directed. There is a fail rate with every method. Even when strictly observed. The pill was taken every day. I will say it was not taken at exactly the same time each day. However, I'm not certain honestly how much that contributed. My OB appeared to believe that I was simply very fertile in combination with my husband, who is the father of both children.
@Veronica Robinson I use NuvaRing as well and I'm literally always paranoid it is going to fail. You should have seen my face when hubby and I were messing around in the hot tub on our first day of our honeymoon, while I was in my most fertile week, and I look over and see my ring floating around in the hot water 😳 we stopped for that night and I was extra careful after to make sure it didn't happen again. And that is not the first time it has come out during sex. But I'm too unreliable with the pill, read too many horror stories of the IUD, I'm needle phobic so the implant isn't an option, and I'm allergic to condoms .... so ring it is until vasalgel is approved for males.
I wanted to have my tubal ligation done at the same time as my cesarean with my youngest, but my obstetrician and gynecologist advised me to wait at least 3 months until the swelling had gone down, so after about 3 weeks I got my 2nd IUD. In the 5th year of having the IUD, I had my tubal ligation. That was 6 years ago now and complete success, no more babies! The problem with getting the tubes tied straight away is because they are still swollen, the clips can't be done up tight enough, or they have to use bigger clips. Then once the swelling does go down, there's room for an egg to slip through. This comment isn't directed at Dr Jones, obviously 😆 but this is exactly how my gynecologist explained it to me, so I hope it helps someone else understand.
I was told almost 40 years ago not to have a tubal the same time as my C-section because of the failure rate. I'm surprised they still do them at that time these days, it's not like it's a new discovery.
@@anntowle1706 I've had it presented as a more useful option, since the tubes are much closer to the surface of the skin shortly after birth. Didn't know what the downsides were until now.
I absolutely love the kiwico sponsor on this video. It’s like “Did you too not know that you were pregnant, and you know have a kid? Here’s how to entertain it!”
honestly the most unbelievable part of this is that a young woman got her tubes tied without permission from her husband, father, father inlaw, priest, several doctors, and like 20 rejections over 15 years.
Literally was just told by my (female!) Dr that she won't let me have a partial hysterectomy because I might get a bf/get married in the future and they might want kids. Excuse me what?
@@catb8703 I would have walked out of the office before she finished the sentence, ass hanging out and all. Find a better doctor, even if it takes a while.
Yeah that's because the regret rate for tubal ligation is about 40% for women who have it done in their 20s (as MDJ explains in another video). So yeah. I'm sure it's frustrating but would pretty much be medically negligent to be gung-ho about it.
@@luna-p I state so often in my family that romance, sex and family doesn't interest me at all and one of the discussions I had "My mom and her sister both had ovaries cancer. You're telling me you're not accepting to remove them once I'm in my thirthy if I didn't have kids even if it's a preventing mesure because it was a really agressive one? What the fuck?" (And knowing they were 45 and 51 when they needed to be operated... What the hell?)
I am always shocked when a routine pregnancy test isnt run when visiting the hospital for anything. I am a Virgin and Ive had countless pregnancy tests at the hospital, pretty much whenever I go in they run one even when I say im not sexually active.
I'm actually surprised that I wasn't given one when I got x-rays on my tail bone, considering my mum was beside me when the nurse asked when my last period was and whether I was sexually active. Like, what teenager is going to admit, in front of their parent, that they're sexually active? I wasn't, but that's besides the point.
See, I had the opposite problem. I went to the campus doctor in college after a CAR CRASH complaining of pain in my side, and he absolutely would not move on from “you’re probably pregnant” I get he had to ask, but how is that the only possible diagnosis for pain after a car crash? I ended up just taking Tylenol for a few months until it didn’t hurt as much…
When I got Nexplannon (implant birth control) they tested if I was pregnant I think a week before, day of, and then I got in a car accident and had to again. That was so wild, I'm always shocked when people's pregnancy are slipped under the radar when they have frequent dr. Apts.
@@bookcat123 yea honestly the medical field fails alot of females/people with uteruses. Its hyper focused on our reproductive organs and often that pulls away from the actual cause of concern.
My mom had no clue she was pregnant with me she ran track for her college. She did her physical before a race and that's how she found out she was pregnant the only was she pregnant with me she was 5 months along. I seen pictures of her you could not tell at all . She also has a heavy flow and never thought anything because she said she never skipped a period
I've been certain I've never wanted kids since 12 years old. I'm 39 and still haven't convinced any doctors of this fact and am gonna put my energies into getting my partner a vasectomy (he's also 100% not interested in kids) since everyone presumes, on my behalf, that I'll regret this decision and change my mind when I meet some imaginary "right man."
Vasectomies have an easier recovery period as well, so if you are able to get a doctor to give your husband a vasectomy(it’s much easier to find a doctor who will do a vasectomy vs. one who will do a tubal ligation) it will be better in multiple ways
I had a "period" with my 8.5 year old. At least I took a test. It's just I was much further along than I thought. Lol And it wasn't light or pain free either, it was super heavy and I had intense cramping. I consider my daughter a miracle baby because of it. I still wonder how she survived all of that!
Same, my doctor even told me that I must have written the day of my last period wrong, but I do keep my tracks very organized Im sure I wrote all the dates correctly 🤷♀️
5 pregnancies all the same... they finally figured out the complications that was causing it for me and turned out to be more dangerous so thankfully we have 4 healthy babies hoping to be 5 soon
I recently got pregnant with an IUD in place. I had the covid vaccine about a week before I was supposed to get my period so when it didn't come I just thought it was because of the vaccine. I waited to take a pregnancy test for several weeks longer than I normally would have because of that, but the whole time Mama Dr. Jones' voice was in my head saying "just take a pregnancy test".
@@mollyapteros It was 1.5 years into a 3 year IUD and when they removed it they said it was properly in place. I've got a nice ultrasound picture of it right next to the gestational sac and the fetus
Could you talk about bleeding during pregnant? I’ve had 5 miscarriage and 1 beautiful boy who is 4 now. I’m now 17 weeks pregnant (with a girl) and have bleed bleeding on and off through the whole pregnancy. I never bled through my first and it stresses me out so bad!! And now I have the flu so bad for a week now and started bleeding a bit yesterday. The stress in this pregnancy is so high!!
I'm no doctor but I had bleeding with my second and I always thought I was gonna miscarry. Turned out I had a subchoronic hematoma, its usually harmless my doctor said. you can look it up, talk to your doctor. Hope that brings you peace of mind
I'm not a doctor, but I had bleeding during my pregnancy. The doctor said it was because my hormone levels were so low. She wasn't that concerned but it freaked me out. She gave me progesterone for the whole first trimester. Luckily, I didn't have any bleeding in the second trimester. I had a tiny bit of bleeding in the third trimester. I ended up getting preeclampsia in the third trimester, they kept me hospitalized for over a week and baby girl was delivered during an emergency c-section at 37 weeks and one day. If you have any bleeding in pregnancy, you should get your doctor to look at it. Sometimes it's not a big deal but sometimes it is so only your doctor can know for sure after testing you.
Are you taking any medications or supplements with blood thinning properties? If so, talk with your OB about whether it is beneficial to continue to take them. If that's not the case, it could be a SCH. Most are harmless and resolve eventually on their own, but it's worth getting checked out.
I know it’s hard but try not to worry too much. I had spotty bleeding off and on for my whole pregnancy with my second daughter. Having had a previous miscarriage and being 40 it really worried me, but when they finally did a pelvic exam after months of sending me for emergency ultrasounds, it turned out to be harmless cervical polyps caused by the pregnancy hormones, which eventually fell off when I gave birth. Subchorionic hematomas (blood clots along the uterine wall) are also very common and can cause huge gushes of blood with no damage to the baby…my best friend had that and gave birth to a very healthy boy. Soon you should feel your baby moving which will make it easier to relax. Best wishes!
My mom still got her "period" for both of her pregnancies. She didn't realize she was pregnant till about 6 months in both times. There was nothing wrong with us, just due to the position of her uterus and cervix it didn't hold the blood in well so every month she'd spot for 4-5 days and she thought it was her period.
Man, she's twenty four with four kids! Man I know you can have kids as soon your period will come in, but anytime I hear someone around my age with multiple kids I can't believe it. I had a classmates who is 22 and with 2 kids and I was like how!
@@kristineapodaca3173 I think it's more like, I still don't feel mature enough to be responsible for another human life at my current age. It's wild that some people who are the same age or even younger took the plunge to step it up.
Thank you so much for explaining the period during pregnancy thing. I have OCD that manifests in the obsessive fear that I'm pregnant so this was SO refreshing to hear that you can't actually have periods, because I am so worried that I would never know until it was too late. Love your videos, thank you!
Best way to take away that anxiety is to quiet your mind and listen to your body 💖 because the period statement is false lovies , every female has a different body and all doctors have is opinions on how they think your body should be 🤷🏾♀️ They can’t possibly know the outcome of every single female in this world. As long as you ended up having a healthy pregnancy isn’t that all that matters love ? Sometime it’s hidden so the anxiety or fear doesn’t take over 😮💨 Not everyone can deal with pregnancy so sometimes it has to stay a secret to everyone including the mom so the baby can grow in peace 😅
When my mom was pregnant with my sister (her first pregnancy), she didn't know she was pregnant until about 6 months bc she hadn't really started showing and still had monthly bleeding.
With my first born I didn’t know I was pregnant the whole 9 months 😭😂. On December 31st 2019 I went into the ER for abdominal pain and trouble breathing. Coming out finding out I was 35.5 weeks pregnant, from there on I had to go to an appointment every other day. I gave birth at 37 weeks due to preeclampsia and had to be induced. My daughter was born January 23, 2020 ❤️ she was healthy and full term, thank god. She is my rainbow baby after so many years of miscarriages, I always irregular periods
My daughter had a classmate who was conceived after a vasectomy. She was the couple’s second child. The third child was conceived and born after a tubal that was performed during the birth of the second child. It can happen. Some children/people are just meant to be born.
@@Emily-hd9sm I have felt that same way and pregnancy is my biggest fear in the world, however please keep in mind if it ever does happen to you, adoption is always an option. Happened to me. I kept bleeding every month on the dot and it wasn’t till I finally got them to do a blood panel to figure out why I felt like crap rather than them dismissing me, they were like “ummmmmm yeah you’re pregnant.” 15 weeks in fact. With a copper IUD. 😑
A friend of mine had her "period" throughout the entire pregnancy, didn't gain much weight, basic holiday weight, and no other symptoms. She was having back pain and went to the hospital and found out she was in labour. Also, my Aunt, with all 3 of her pregnancies, had a negative result on pregnancy tests even though she knew she was pregnant. With her last one, she decided to take a test right before she went in for her c-section and it was still negative 😂
My husband got a vasectomy, he wasn’t happy about it lol. But after 4 kids and complicated health issues and pregnancies it was the right choice for us, and the Catholic hospitals near me wouldn’t give me a tubal ligation (which I was willing to have, especially since my last 2 were via c-section.
It makes me so angry that a hospital won’t do a medical procedure because of religious beliefs. Also, why would they give your husband a vasectomy but not give you a tubal ligation? Makes no sense
@@charlleedodson the vasectomy is done in office at the doctors across from the hospital so they aren’t constrained by the religious issues at the hospital. I had periods up to 3mths pregnant, with both my sons, which still, totally confuses me, as we are all taught that once you're pregnant, periods STOP, infact the second pregnancy I even had a period at the time of the first scan, they just brushed it off, did nothing
Were your kids healthy? If you watched this video (or others similar) you’ll hear that you cannot have an actual period, but you can bleed. They likely didn’t do anything because your son was healthy and doing fine 😄
That was not a period. It’s extremely rare to release an egg while you’re pregnant and I’m pretty sure uterine lining shedding will cause a miscarriage. I did IVF and my lining had to have a certain thickness before embryo transfer. I’m pregnant now and have bleeding thanks to my fibroids. Bleeding in pregnancy can be caused other things too.
It was still bizarre at the time, caused a major family argument, in fact, the only reason I found out I was pregnant, was because I had taken an overdose to get out of and away from an abusive partner, no1 was helping, they pumped my stomach, and that was how I found out, Counsellor and my family were convince that was the reason I over- dosed, my family can never admit when they haved f'd up. baby was fine, difficult birth, with agressive sister, in tow and not helping matters, she has since tried first kidnapping him, then painted absurd picture to welfare, which they unfortunately believed, because sis ter had done course and knew what to say everytime things were going my way again
@@mellamokori Yes,. both kids were healthy, infact the 1st son, even survived me overdosing, I didn't know I was pregnant, only way I could see out of an abusive relationship at the time, no help from anywhere,w asn't planning on getting pregnant, (but that is also not something I would tell either of my children - unlike my mother, who constantly reminded me that I was 1) not planned, 2) not wanted 3) that they had me, then tried to put me back)
I've been diagnosed with PCOS since my late 20's. Some doctors said I can't get pregnant some said I can. I've miscarried once in 2008 and never got pregnant again. Watching these stories just leaves me wanting a child even if I didn't know till I delivered. I don't believe I would feel cheated because the blessing really begins when they place your bundle in your arms.

Thank you so much for explaining the “period” during pregnancy. I’ve tried so many times to explain this people with the real explanation and no one seems to believe it. Some even say their doctors tell them it’s possible which blows my mind!
My husband had a vasectomy and it's one of the best decisions we've ever made. And it's great that he can retest occasionally to make sure it's still effective.
@@allclay1993 the good thing is we had the cut and the burn so the chances of failure are very low, but just like the tubal this woman got he was young when he got it so a lot of time for it to "fail". (I think it was 2013? So he was like 27) But I'm also on other contraceptives as well for my own health reasons so extra backup!
I can confirm there is indeed a failure rate! I had a tubal ligation during the c-section with my second son in 2000. And then my third son was born in 2004. Biggest surprise of my life!
I recently found your channel and am very happy I did! This is my favourite series of yours so seeing it right after it came out is awesome! Another great video MDJ
I was pregnant and had no idea until i went into labor! I thought i just had appendicitis until i went to the hospital and they told me i was 8cm dilated and about to have a baby😬 I had a “period” the whole time and i was taking birth control! My daughters 1st birthday is on the 22nd!!!
I was in a car accident on my 18th birthday and ended up in the hospital. They didn't give me a pregnancy test. I think it depends on the kind of injury if they would give her a pregnancy test, plus they often just go with what you say. Every time I've been asked if I was pregnant before an x-ray, they just go with what I say and don't test me.
Yep. I went to urgent care when I broke my ankle earlier this year, and was not given a pregnancy test. Nobody asked me if there was a chance I could be pregnant, but there was a sign on the door about letting them know if I was pregnant. Not really something I was looking at when I was in pain 😅 Obviously if I were pregnant or thought maybe I could be, I would have said something.
I was 23, married and pregnant with my fourth child. I literally had to beg my OBGYN to tie my tubes. I got divorced that year, and ended up getting pregnant four years later, after being w a partner who hadn't had a vasectomy for the first time. I was shocked and devastated when I got the call from the doctor's office, and was told I was pregnant. I often wonder if the doctor really did tie my tubes. He assured me that they were cut, tied, and burned...
Just had a bilateral salpingectomy last month. I'm 41 and was fed up with horrible IUD and pill side effects over the years. Now I'm like... uh... this is scary!!!
Scared of what though? Getting pregnant anyway? You won't. Your procedure is much safer in terms of birth control than having your tubes tied (1/200 failure rate, which is still lower than the PEARL pf IUDs and the pill, mind you). Don't worry please. You will be just fine and have surely made the right choice.
I am getting the same procedure done in February, and after discussing it with my doctor, she told me it's far safer because the tubes are entirely removed and not clamped off. So, just follow up with your physician and talk about the risks. I'm excited to be free of the pill.
I feel like I should add: If you want to make absolutely certain, like banging stones against each other certain that there will never ever be a baby, you can always ask your partner to get a vasectomy. That would be overkill, but then you'd get into the realm of lottery (which is to say never, ever going to happen).
My BEST FRIEND GREW AN ENTIRE NEW TUBE and became pregnant after tubal ligation ( because of her heart damages) having already given birth to three children ( back in the 1970's.) She went to worship at her temple and had a VISION of herself giving birth to a baby after her ligation and felt terrible. The doctors had given her powerful medications to "start" her "period," because it hadn't come for three months after the ligation. HOWEVER, their baby was born PERFECT AND FULL-TERM! Later on, she told me that she had a ghost pregnancy after that one. To me, it just meant that her little baby KNEW IT WAS SUPPOSED TO COME to their family and just wasn't going to be STOPPED!
And this is exactly why even though my tubes have been tied for 8 years I still take pregnancy tests if my cycle is wonky. I had them tied at 24 and had no idea that the younger you are when you get them tied the higher your chance of failure. So far so good though.
My sons girlfriend felt sick whilst at school her mother picked her up early and she ended up in emergency care with suspected kidney infection. This was on a Friday at around 3pm. By 10pm she messaged me saying she has a positive pregnancy test and they would scan her in the morning. By 5am on the Saturday I got a message saying she has given birth to a baby girl 😮 Biggest shock ever! I was expecting my daughter (5 months pregnant) so I took over all the bits I had started to buy as she had nothing. She was in my house the week before and her stomach was so flat! Never suspected she was pregnant at all let alone full term! She is now a very healthy almost 3 year old. My granddaughter and my daughter are just 5 months apart 😂
When my mom was pregnant with me, she didn't know until she was 5 months along. She took birth control the whole time and had bleeding whenever she didn't take it (in Germany placebo pills aren't as common, if you take birth control you just stop taking them every 3 weeks for 1 week to bleed) though it was very light. She was very surprised 😁
I wonder if they looked at her tubes after the surprise Cesarean to see if/how the clip/ring failed. I would be demanding a full hysterectomy at that point.
I really loved the way you explained the bleeding during a pregnancy in this episode. I know you've talked about it before but I feel like I understood it better this time! 😊
I had my normal periods right on cue with all the same symptoms for 4 months into my pregnancy. Luckily I was doing a pregnancy test every week because we were trying for a kiddo so I knew right away. I brought it up to my dr who said it must have been implantation bleeding the first time. The 2nd time I called freaked out and he said it was probably spotting from my cervix being sensitive. The 3rd time he asked me to come in, did a bunch of tests, told me the baby was fine and he didn't know why I was still having bleeding. Same with the 4th time. After that it stopped. My hormones where fine, no complications, and it was always at my normal period cycle and felt the same with the same amount of bleeding I normally get. I have heavy cycles so I was scared the whole time till it stopped, despite what the dr said, that I was gonna miscarry. All these women in the comments saying it happened to them, and all these drs saying it's not possible. My dr. said it wasn't a possibility of it being a period and must be something else, despite the evidence other wise, and them never being able to find another explanation. Maybe a study needs to be done to find the cause?
I definitely agree there should be more studies on this! There’s so much about women’s bodies that we just don’t understand, especially with hormones and pregnancy. However, since as she mentioned a “period” is the shedding of the lining of the uterus, if there is a fertilized egg implanted in it then it won’t shed the lining. So definitely has to be something else but why it would occur so regularly like that is beyond me. I’d guess that it might have something to do with certain hormones affecting sensitivity but the fact that we don’t know means that there should definitely be more research done on that!
When most woman bleed during pregnancy first thing they do is run to the doctor 🤑 just to be told they’re fine or need to come back for observations which is more money for the doctors 😮💨 Its most likely all about money , pregnant woman are jackpots for doctors 😅 I know & know of over 12 females who have had their period while pregnant, yes period ( heavy flow , 7 days , on time , pmsing , cramps & had healthy babies ) but doctors claim it’s impossible when nothing is impossible same way you can get pregnant while already pregnant 😮💨 Just a whole bunch of opinions 🤷🏾♀️ No one can ever truly define the female body because every female has a different body 💖
I spent a lot of time in the hospital with my son that had cancer and I wish to God a doctor would have talked to me so blatantly as you speak. I love it and I thank you
My cousin was in a similar situation, in which she didn’t know she was pregnant until she went into labor. She had regular bleeding throughout her pregnancy, and her only symptoms were slight weight gain (which coincided with her overcoming an eating disorder) and craving strawberries (which she otherwise hated).
My mom got pregnant with my little brother less than a year after she got her tubes tied, hes always taken pride in the fact that hes the result of a particularly determined egg lol
8:55 Ok, but how do these bleedings happen so often, and at the same time each month? She said her "period" came each month, by the seventh or eight day... That's so weird...
I had regular periods for the first 4 months when I was pregnant with my daughter; if I hadn't gotten sick whenever I even smelled or thought about food, we wouldn't have known that I was pregnant.😳
I had daily very light brown or pink bleeding throughout both my pregnancies. My cervix was thoroughly checked and the bleeding wasn’t from there. I had an ultrasound to search for a haematoma or other source but none was found. My babies are 7 and 10 :) Never did find out why I had bleeding during pregnancy.
If it wasn't for my period I wouldn't know. I usually get pregnancy symptoms every month (tenderness, bloating, moodiness, cravings) the only thing setting it apart is my period. So if I got pregnant and still had my period I wouldn't know either.
My now 13-year-old son is the product of a failed tubal ligation. I had my first child (son) in Oct. 2000 at the age of 18. I then had my second child (daughter) in Jan. 2005 (about 5½ months before I turned 23), at which point I had a tubal ligation. My daughter was born vaginally, but I had to deliver her in the OR since I was going to be having the surgery immediately after and would have to be cut on. So, my OB/GYN did my surgery laparoscopically, tying my tubes off, cutting small pieces from each one and then burning the ends. Everything went well. I only stayed 2½ days in the hospital. Brought my baby home, and I thought that was it. Fast forward to 2½ years later, in Aug. 2007 I was going into my second month of missed period and I don't really remember exactly why I decided to take a pregnancy test, but I did and it came up positive. I remember I was slightly in denial when I saw it, but was also scared to death that it was ectopic (heard too many horror stories about those) so I called my OB/GYN and was like, "WTF?! How can this test be positive? Could this be ectopic? Do I need to get to the hospital like right now?" So she has me go into the office, do blood work, which also comes back positive and then sends me for a vaginal ultrasound. I was a nervous frickin' wreck the entire time. Once I got back to her office after the ultrasound she was like, "Welp, you're definitely pregnant and it's not ectopic. Due date is April 1st." (go figure the due date would be April Fool's Day 🤣) Fast forward again to the end of March 2008 and my son was born healthy, 7lbs. 3oz. Crazy thing about the whole thing is that my OB/GYN told me that BOTH tubes had grown back, not just one, and that if she hadn't performed my surgery herself she wouldn't have believed I had even had it done because they grew back so well. BUT... to top all that off, the even crazier part is the fact that I've also had Endometriosis and PCOS (diagnosed through laparoscopy almost 20 years ago), which supposedly makes it super difficult to get pregnant (well, apparently not for me 😆). Anyway, after this last pregnancy my OB/GYN suggested that we wait until 6 weeks after delivery and then do another surgery to just remove my tubes, to ensure it wouldn't fail again. So... that's what we did and now all I have left are little nubs. As for my son, he will be 14 this coming March 2022 (my other two are 21 and almost 17).
Although bleeding at the same time every month is not technically a "period", y'all need to come up with a name for it because it's certainly SOMETHING and not having a good name for it is just causing confusion in the general public.
In one of the comments the woman said she was tested twice and they said it was indeed a period! No one has mentioned withdrawal bleeding either. I don’t believe science knows 100% of what the body is capable of. I too agreed with you before I just read her comment

It’s crazy to me that so many types of birth control fail, and people get pregnant when they’re aggressively trying not to. Meanwhile, some of us are actively trying with no luck. The female anatomy is wild 🤣

It's awful. I feel so bad for people having no proper healthcare and I consider myself very lucky to have free healthcare in my country.
I mean, is it routine to get a pregnancy test if you go to the hospital for something else? It probably should be, but I’ve only had to go to the ER in the US once, when I had a bad case of mono, and they didn’t do a pregnancy test.

I'm most amazed she found a doctor that tied her tubes at that age considering how many women with kids in their early 30s are denied tubal ligations.
Imagine us in our 30s who don't want kids. Too many women are being denied a sterilization.
“…and ruin it with educational commentary” false. These are my favorite videos. Much humor, such entertaining 💜
Lol
She definitely doesn't ruin it. I love these videos
It’s the only way I watch the show. Makes it interesting.
My cousin was told she had pcos and could conceive. Baby #1. She started birth control. Baby #2. Husband got a vasectomy. Baby #3.
“Accidentally be diagnosed with a full term baby” my second biggest fear next to being actually pregnant 😂
Right?? I have tokophobia so anytime I have to take a pregnancy test (I got sterilized and don't have tubes so there's only a 0.00000000001% chance) I dread a positive diagnosis. I'd have to call in a diagnosis for abortion next lol
@@GreenBrierPatch I'm sex repulsed ace and a lesbian so the likelihood of be being pregnant is none, but I definitely still worry I might lol

That's what I got 6 years ago works perfectly
Do doctors actually do this though… because I can’t find one who will do anything despite me never wanting kids. I get told “what if your future husband/boyfriend want them”
@@toroallin5734 I got it done 7 years ago I never had children.
@@toroallin5734 you have to find the right doctor to do it. There are lists somewhere of doctors who are willing to do the operation on people without children. I don't know exactly where you can find it, but you could look for it.

I think the "periods," during pregnancy needs to be studied more. There are too many women saying they are having regular periods once a month.
For real. We keep calling them periods because they're regular and not at all out of the ordinary. They need to listen to us and study it!
Yeah for the first few months I started bleeding on the exact day I would’ve gotten my period had I not been pregnant. My doctor theorized that maybe it was my body trying to keep up with routine but idk. I agree somebody needs to look into it more!
I agree ,I had a" 5 day "bleeding cycle every single month upto 27 weeks when I found out I was expecting twins,it really needs to be studied more
My mom swears she didn’t know with me for 7 months because she had her period. Wild.
Yes please. I had "periods" for up to 5 months into my pregnancy and didn't know until a friend asked me to try a test.
I wonder if it was an assumption back then that men had the money and the doctors were just afriad of being sued?

Yes they do but urine tests can be negative. All but one of mine were negative.
Take care. ❤
Can’t wait to hear how New Zealand is. I’d love to hear about how different medical care is there versus the United States in future videos!
You mean other than the price lol
So sad we are losing such a good doctor, but so happy for you!
@@dawn3737 ooof that's rough. Worst nightmare!
@@meganwoehl5277 have you tried latex free condoms? It made a big difference for me. We use skyn. I get it if it's something else in the condom tho
This makes sense, thanks for the explanation.
What the fuck?"
(And knowing they were 45 and 51 when they needed to be operated... What the hell?)
She had three kids. Far more likely that doctors would agree to a ligation than if it had been her first child.
I am always shocked when a routine pregnancy test isnt run when visiting the hospital for anything. I am a Virgin and Ive had countless pregnancy tests at the hospital, pretty much whenever I go in they run one even when I say im not sexually active.
By law they have to :)
Now that I think about it "I didn't know I was pregnant" is a very useful show for educating people and dispelling pregnancy myths.
Well she obviously did miss her periods. Wow crazy though. Glad she had a healthy baby/pregnancy which kinda tracks if she was an athlete
I am 37 and same!
Vasectomies have an easier recovery period as well, so if you are able to get a doctor to give your husband a vasectomy(it’s much easier to find a doctor who will do a vasectomy vs. one who will do a tubal ligation) it will be better in multiple ways
Not to mention they are also cheaper, much less invasive, and the procedure is quicker as well
I had a "period" with my 8.5 year old. At least I took a test. It's just I was much further along than I thought. Lol
And it wasn't light or pain free either, it was super heavy and I had intense cramping. I consider my daughter a miracle baby because of it. I still wonder how she survived all of that!
I glad your baby is okay :)
I've heard that's called pregnancy bleeding, I'm glad she survived it!!!
Same with my mom
I had my tubes tied during a c-section 6 weeks ago. Stories like this are why my husband is also getting a vasectomy next week 🥴

Are you able to go see an ob/gyn in emerge? As someone who has been through a full term stillbirth, I urge you to go get checked out.
My friends 21 with 3 kids. First right out of high school and later had twins. I'm 20 with a 3 month old.
I had my daughter at 20 then twins when I was 22. I'm in my late 30s now and I look back thinking how? And why???? 🤣
I had my first ten days after I turned 22, second at 23, third at 27 and fourth at 29. It's totally possible.

Nobody asked me if there was a chance I could be pregnant, but there was a sign on the door about letting them know if I was pregnant. Not really something I was looking at when I was in pain 😅 Obviously if I were pregnant or thought maybe I could be, I would have said something.
Same, I had a car accident, X-ray and no pregnancy test. It's not the part of the protocol in Hungary.
I live how MDJ makes this face at the woman driving herself to the hospital as if she did not drive herself to the hospital in labour 🤣
I drove myself too with my son.
She judges herself for doing that 😂
She’s probably like - DON’T BE LIKE ME!
:/.. i genuinely continue to be baffled that we trust these people with our lives and they just fuck with us
8:14 INCORRECT...I personally had my period for the first 3 months, I in fact didn't know till my final day of my 3rd cycle that I was even pregnant!
Yup , plenty of woman did 😮💨
Just had a bilateral salpingectomy last month.
There's an extremely small chance you'll get pregnant again. I get you're scared though. But you don't need to be. Sterilization is very reliable.
I had period level bleeding for the first few months of my most recent pregnancy, it was quite a shock to find out i was 3 months along
@mamadoctorjones I think your commentary is great and makes "I didn't know I was pregnant" even better.
And this is exactly why even though my tubes have been tied for 8 years I still take pregnancy tests if my cycle is wonky. I had them tied at 24 and had no idea that the younger you are when you get them tied the higher your chance of failure. So far so good though.
It doesn't matter how many of these videos she's done. MDJ just has the most wholesome looked of awe when she sees a newborn baby. Warms my heart ❤
This is why I got a bisalp instead of a tubal - the risk is low, but I wanted the risk to be as low as humanly possible
Flat stomach! Wow!!
I'm never this early but absolutely LOVE this series!
I know, right?!
As do I! It’s what made me subscribe.
It's the best best best
You are so upbeat and fun to watch and so knowledgeable. I really enjoy your videos. They always put a smile on my face!
Every time I come on this channel I feel the urge to take a pregnancy test… despite the fact that I haven’t even looked at a guy since May
When my mom was pregnant with me, she didn't know until she was 5 months along.
@@goddesslov3339 girl!!!! This comment!!!!❤❤❤
That's so weird...
these videos always come at that time of the month for me, makes the week much better love these
The look on Dr. Mama's face when she drove herself to the ER... 😂 Had me thinking hello pot, that's kettle! 😂
at 11:20.... that entire look is my spirit animal. It's everything and ... I feel that in my soul.
I had regular periods for the first 4 months when I was pregnant with my daughter; if I hadn't gotten sick whenever I even smelled or thought about food, we wouldn't have known that I was pregnant.😳
I love how conscientious you are for people of all lifestyles. The language you use is quite inclusive!
Love that you talk about non-monogamy so normally!
If it wasn't for my period I wouldn't know. I usually get pregnancy symptoms every month (tenderness, bloating, moodiness, cravings) the only thing setting it apart is my period. So if I got pregnant and still had my period I wouldn't know either.
Omg I love these scrubs on you. You look amazing in this color!
Do I need to get to the hospital like right now?"
So she has me go into the office, do blood work, which also comes back positive and then sends me for a vaginal ultrasound. I was a nervous frickin' wreck the entire time. Once I got back to her office after the ultrasound she was like, "Welp, you're definitely pregnant and it's not ectopic. Due date is April 1st."
(go figure the due date would be April Fool's Day 🤣)
Fast forward again to the end of March 2008 and my son was born healthy, 7lbs.
My sister (who is 19) was born in April 1st!
i love the addition of "someone that can get you pregnant" it doesnt exclude people or hurt people
I love the way you just casually mention that not everyone is monogamous! Can we love you more?
I got warm fuzzies when she mentioned that! She was so nonchalant about it too...loved it.
I had my tubes tied when I was 24 after my 3rd child. I'm almost 40 now and yay! Still only have 3 kids and one granddaughter now 💃💃💃
Although bleeding at the same time every month is not technically a "period", y'all need to come up with a name for it because it's certainly SOMETHING and not having a good name for it is just causing confusion in the general public.
In one of the comments the woman said she was tested twice and they said it was indeed a period! No one has mentioned withdrawal bleeding either. I don’t believe science knows 100% of what the body is capable of. I too agreed with you before I just read her comment
Mama Doctor Jones being cautious to include non monogamous folks in her choice of word made me sooo happy!
