I like the idea of locking the backpack to the suitcase, great idea
Thanks Mike
Thanks!!!
When your travels take you to Asia you may really need it
I always make a bag of goodies daily for my chambermaid and leave it on the end of the bed especially if they have kids. This past trip the wife and I brought an extra bag full of donations for the staff.
Amazing great Idea!!!!
Mike
Great tips, not only applicable to Cuba, but anywhere you travel (even in Canada). Have yet to have anything go missing in all my trips to Cuba, but have had multiple items disappear from Canadian Hotels over the years.
so True!! Absolutely anywhere Colin
Good advice Mike. I never leave anything out. I even pack away my toiletries/makeup everyday. Once had a housekeeper steal a lipstick. That is the only thing that has ever gone missing in Cuba. I hope you had a great time at the Valentin.
Absolutely love Perla Blanca
Thank You
Mike
Grate video again. I travel light I only take what I need. I’m going to get away I don’t need a lot beach cold beer and sun. I keep my room clean leave them a nice tip everyday and your safe
Absolutely So True!!!
Beers and Sun Beach!!!
Life Is Good
Thanks for your videos! Great info. I'm also a light traveler and careful about my stuff. I do the same things you noted. As an extra safety measure, I bring dog bells. I hang them on the door so that when we're asleep, nobody's getting a jump on us. That being said, I've never had an issue with safety or stolen items in Cuba. Ever.
That’s great idea
Great video Mike with some excellent advice. When we were in Cuba I felt safer than walking downtown Calgary. I look forward to your next video, keep them coming!!
Absolutely Gordon
Cuba is known for it’s Safety
Just a few bad apples
Mike
We just got back from cayo Guilerrmo about 2 weeks ago. The mini bar guy would show up at random times and just walk right in our room. You can never be sure no one else will be in your room. Also, our key card lock was hit or miss, sometimes we couldn't get in our room and sometimes the door wouldn't even lock. We were at Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo, which we thought was supposed to be a good resort.
Good morning my friend, I consider you to be a very intelligent and organized person. I think we are similar in some ways 💪👍🙏🇨🇺don't forget that I wait for your visit
Hi Mike, another great video full of common sense advice.
Bill
Hey thanks Bill
Thanks for watching
Mike
Great video, great information and ideas. I never considered airtags before that is definitely on the must have list now. Thanks as always.
Thanks Bud e!!!
I’m watching this from my room in varadero
That’s Awesome Super Brad
Hi Mike I do the same I leave my clothes in my suitcase and lock it when I'm ot great info and video❤
Hey Lisa thanks for watching and your comment!!!
Like Minded 😀
I just put the "Do not disturb" sign on the door from day 1 to when I leave. So far ,so good.
I’ve actually done that before!!! But sometimes the cleaning staff still come in lol
We usually use the safe and haven't had any issues, but I do like the lock idea , esp for my purse ( in the safe) which has everything like passports etc in it, for an extra fail safe. Never have had an issue yet at a resort, but know they happen so still always do the typical drawer checks etc and have the room tiday as you do with the bedding checks before leaving. . But also , always like to meet the maid etc as well as whoever may be deliverying water etc to the room. We have always had the issue with the airport. Cologne/perfume seems to be a thing, that's what has been taken from us too , a couple of times now, so try to do carry-on/purse for anything like that if possible or just not bring it. Duely noted as well if we decide to visit Varadero.
Absolutely Sue!!!
Meeting People who work at the Resorts is Key to great relationship
Hi Mike, we were once accused at the Rio del sol Luna holguin for stealing a towel from the room. We were already in the bus waiting to go to the airport. I told them to go through my luggage to find it. They wanted $ 20.00 for the towel. I told them we brought towels and don’t need any. Finally they let us go. Never will go back to that place
Wow!!
That’s why I never take a beach towel from my room, it seems they can go missing to easily.
Thank you Mike for another informative video! I am going to go to Cuba solo for the first time. Would love to know your tips for travelling alone.
Video coming out soon TrainFactor!!!
Thanks for watching
Mike
Always put perfume on your clothes before putting them in your suitcases ;) Leave your perfume at home
Absolutely such a great idea
It’s funny I was just wondering if AirTags worked in Cuba and you just answered that question thank you❤
They seem too FireFly!!!
Thanks for watching
I do all that security stuff except the extra locks on the backpack...i have those locks just never thought to do it....and yep we have had stuff taken from our room a few times...then i learned my lesson...Viv
I just do it because I travel so much Darrel!!!
Thanks for watching
Mike
I don't normally complain. I did lose my Phone from my room. We went to the pool and I left my phone on the TV Stand. Someone brought a Bottle of Water and left it on the TV Stand when I was gone from 4 to 6pm and my phone was gone. A big of donations was missing as well. I contact security and 3 days later my phone was returned. I didn't ask questions I just said thank you and that was the end of it. I moved a ceiling tile and hide all my valuables in the ceiling now. I couldnt believe I got my phone back but I make sure I hide everything now.
This was last week at Memories Flemenco. I am currently at Grand Muthu Imperial and no problem. My stuff is well hidden. Lesson learned. But my vacation was still amazing.
Sadly!!!
Yes that’s why I always lock my items up and when I drink 🍺 my phone gets locked up so I don’t mistaken leave it somewhere!!!
Thanks for your comment
Mike
Hi Mike, I am amazed by how light you pack! Maybe next time I will give it a try. Air tags! Getting to know your chamber maid is a good idea...they get a day off! Plus you might have someone else stocking the mini fridge! Better safe than sorry! Thanks for sharing! Wendy from NS.
Hey Wendy
Absolutely!!!
Thanks for watching I hope the weather in NS is better then Ontario
Mike
Currently nice & sunny! Chillier by the ocean...not quite beach weather yet😅But a good day to walk on the beach! What's going on with the weather in Ontario!? Take care!
Hey Mike, as always, great info. I'm the same way, I always keep everything in my luggage and keep them locked up. Better safe than sorry. Good piece of advice for 1st timers...if you leave it on the bed, it's considered a gift and will be taken with much appreciation 😊
Absolutely Cynthia!!!
Always better safe then sorry!!!
Thank for the comment
Mike
Good tips there. Never really thought of locking my luggage. thanks for the video!
Thanks Adam for watching
Feel exactly same Mike.. 🤗👌🥂
Hey thanks Serge
Appreciate you watching and commenting
Just went to Ensenachos. Such a beautiful and safe resort!!! And yes we did put our stuff away as well just in case :)
Absolutely
Most places are totally safe!!!!
Glad you had a great time
Love that place
Mike
We always lock our valuables in our suitcases, i personally don't 100% trust the safe in the room
Yup understandable
Unfortunately!!!
Thanks for the comment and watching
Mike
I started travel to Cuba in 1989. Been back many times. I lock my wallet, passport and i-pad in the safe. The housekeepers have always been honest. I bring chocolate bars and tip every day. On my last day at a resort 6 years ago, I looked for my pants, gone. I reported them missing. My housekeeper had the day off and her replacement helped herself to my pants. She claimed I had left them at the bottom of my bed. I only brought one pair so they had to return my pants. I travel light, 2 dresses, 1 pair of shorts, 2 tops and long pants for travel.
My regular housekeeper was honest, her replacement was not. Remember not to leave anything at the bottom of your bed or beds.
I’m in Varadero right now always feel safe about my personal belongings in my room it’s things being stolen from my checked bagged when leaving the country is my main concern.
Absolutely Rome
Thank you for the great tips
Thanks For always Supporting me Chantal!!!!
Mike
Great video Mike just saying I’ve been to Cuba eight times in the last year to the same resort and never lost or had anything stolen from me if anything I give half my stuff away I usually go with a 50 lb suitcase and when I leave it weighs like 20 lbs lol. Wow guess I have been lucky never had anything go missing in Cuba. Good tips here sorry to hear that you have had things taken. Have you only had things gone missing in varadero?
We have had things go missing in all parts of the world. Not just Cuba.
Thanks for watching Walker
You have Great Luck 🍀
Mike
@@jenniferfisher4912 just curious if it only happened in that part of Cuba. I haven’t visited varadero. We’ve only been to cayo coco and cayo Santa María
Hello Mike. First off all, WE LOVE YOU WORK!!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR DOING THIS, AND BEING SO POSITIVE.
Second, can you say in one sentence what is your strategy finding last minute seat sales to Cuban resorts?
Thank you.

Thanks Jenny
Can’t wait
Did you get that message I’m not good with this media stuff
I’ll check tonight Dave!!!
Thanks
Canadian government just issued a travel advisory for Cuba. There has been an increase in pick pockets and scams due to a shortage of food and medicine. Violent crime, though, is very rare.
Hey thanks Doug!!!
Sad reality
Mike
nice tips. however I don't see how the locks on your backpacks will be effective. because the material is maliable, can't you just unzip the backpack still with the locks on?
Not if there locked together!!!!
Or am I not understanding your question
Are there Limes or lemons at Resorts or market for sale? Going to Cayo Santa Maria, have you ever seen green limes ? Is it ok to bring some? Thanks
Sometimes have seen lemons!!!
I doubt you find them!!!
But maybe!!!
I don’t know if you can legally bring them into the country!!!
Google it!!!
Good luck
Mike can you attach the links to purchase the locks
Check Back Tomorrow and i'll attach!!
Thanks Lianna

I find most the issues come from visitors not the staff
true!!!
Hey Mike. Random question.
Do you know if the workers get to keep there gifts?
I brought a suitcase full of dollarstore items. Toys, make up, advil lots of Club House spices. A ton of good random items. I make bags up worth 40 / 50 dollars each and hand out to random workers. The next day (Today) all the spices I gave him as a gift were on the Buffet fish station. He didn't speak english. I asked another worker if they can keep there gifts and he said No.
I hope the workers keep there gift items. I'm sadden by this if the answer is No.
That’s Interesting!!! I assume that can keep them. I’ve never had that happen to me.
Thanks for the comment.
I’ll look into this further.
Mike
I can answer that, been to Cuba a zillion times, and I've been blessed with a few dear friends.
Here's how it works with items such as you described (clubhouse spices, advil, etc. ). These items are typically "traded" back to the resort management for other non-material "benefits" to be given to the employee who received the goods.
An example, the spices gifted to the worker is then traded to management. Management then uses the spices at the buffet for a better dining experience for all the resort customers.
The worker would receive in return : an extra day off; or a an opportunity at a better set of shifts (I.e. working days, not nights), etc.
Same for the Advil, it will be traded to Management for use at the Medical office for dispensing to vacationers as required, while the worker who traded the gift receives an extra day off, or a better shift, etc.
Think of it as an informal policy that is encouraged by management . Resort Management will NEVER openly admit to this arrangement due to the optics. Workers are reluctant to share this "barter system" with guest b/c they don't want to appear ungrateful.
Hope this helps
I gess you are a control freak. And it is fine. When I go to Cuba, I bring clothes I Don't wear anymore. Phone goes in the safe and I change the code every 2 days. No jewels, since I am a always in the Ocean and Don't want to attract fish. I bring remnant of perfume, a couple, more for my room than wearing it. Bugs love me and permume make it worse. When I leave, almost everything exept underwear, shoes and bathing wear stays in Cuba. Sunscreen, Tylenol, all non prescribe meds go to gardeners. In fact most of my stuff is given to gardeners.
You
Are
Awesome
Keep it up
this is making me realize we got lucky last time, left my laptop and everything out in the room all day for 7 days in a row (locked up passports though), nothing got stolen. our maids were really great though and I think it is partially because we left tips for them every day and also brought a checked bag worth of goodies for the Cuban people and left a lot of it in our room for the maids, and gave away our leftovers on our last day.
You know!!!
Most times things will be fine!!!
But it’s when it does happen it really Sucks😫
