Thank you for this information Simon I have a few nest boxes in my garden and love to see the little birds using them :D I have always wondered if I should or should not empty them so thank you for the info. However I put up a small wicker roosting pot last year and a wren nested in there and it wove more twine around the opening so i do not think I will be able to empty that one ? should I just leave it there ? :D Teddy
Apologies for the late response. Did you leave it in the end? If you wait until the autumn then you can completely empty and remove all of the material.

We have 3 and no birds, we put out plenty of food and lots of bushes and trees.
they will come when they want,sometimes it last a months
