    I think I have my routine of picking out clothes to 17 minutes a week! I know this won't work for many, but I spend 10 minutes on Sunday night gathering 5 outfits for work. I hang them in a specific part of my closet. Then, every morning I take one minute to pick one depending on my mood and weather. Yes, sometimes by the end of the week I need to make an adjustment, but it usually works really well for me!

    • @jamie7002
      @jamie7002 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I sort of do this too as a mom of 2 babies under 2! I just take a glimpse at the week’s weather forecast, take a look at the laundry situation and then set aside some looks based on my plans. Takes about 5 min and then I might spend a few min making adjustments as the week progresses.

    In my work years, I always had to look super-polished for my formal office. So, I always put together my outfit for each day the evening before, including underwear, shoes and accessories. I also dealt with the clothes I had worn that day, steaming/ironing, airing, polishing, as needed, or putting in the laundry, everything I had worn. On the weekend, I would spend a little time on wardrobe planning, repairs, etc., if necessary. It was a lifesaver in my super-early mornings, I needed to leave for the bus stop by 6:15 am. In those days, I had a light beer while doing that, and while starting dinner, but have long since stopped drinking.

    I recently did some interesting research and realized that I have three different style uniforms depending on the season. Winter- turtleneck cable knit sweaters, jeans and boots. Spring / Fall- Jeans, light sweater, blazer, Chelsea boots. Summer- capris, t-shirts and sandals. Once I figured this out going shopping each season became way easier. I know what I like, what looks good, and ultimately what I will wear which means I never waste money on the wrong clothes. Figuring this out has been a game changer for me!

      Same here! In fall/winter: a knit wrap dress with leggings and boots, Summer: a button up dress in linen or a similar material, with a jacket if it's breezy or chilly.

    What an interesting concept! I feel like I wear anything that happens to call to me from my wardrobe that day, and there's a little bit of everything, but now I kind of WANT to find my "uniform". 😁

  • @michellechouinard4958
    @michellechouinard4958 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Now that I'm pregnant, my "uniform" is maternity leggings with a maternity cami and a big, oversized cardigan that covers my butt and keeps me warm since it's winter. This is just from necessity though. I will not spend a lot of money on a wardrobe that lasts just a few months. But when I was still working in an office, I wore mostly dresses, and depending on the season it would be with a pair of nice sandals, or with leggings and dress boots. I would love to return to dresses after the baby is born, even though I'm a stay-at-home mom now. I struggle matching separates, and a good dress feels like pajamas, while always managing to look romantic and pretty. I also don't personally think jeans are comfortable in comparison, and it's hard to find ones that fit just right.

    • @vazq_Fernanda
      @vazq_Fernanda  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with you that dresses are super comfortable. I think knowing what works for you is half the battle, and if you already know that you fee put together and comfortable in dresses, then you're in a really good place. What about matching separates do you struggle with? Is it matching colors and textures, or styling them in a way that you feel looks good?

    My go-to outfits/personal uniform include loose black printed t-shirts, high waisted jeans and combat boots or sneakers (for all seasons). In late spring and summer I also lean towards long sleeved white blouses and colorful maxi skirts.
    When I don't feel like wearing my personal uniform and still don't want to spend a lot of time picking an outfit in the morning I'd really love to pre-plan it the evening before - I check the weather and then create most fitting combination, place it together on the chair or somewhere and then I can sleep 15 minutes longer! 😂

      @vazq_Fernanda  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Agreed about the jacket and sweater! And if you’re comfortable with lower necklines, then the scoop one for sure, but I would say, for those who are used to a crew neckline for either modesty or preference, maybe a collared shirt is better. The point is to not focus on your clothes and not feeling self conscious.

    Thank you for helping me clarify my thinking! I think my uniform might be knee-length knit fit-and-flare dresses with sandals and a cardigan. I think I have basically dressed like this for a long time. Short sleeved t-shirt all year round, with pants in winter and maxi skirts in summer. Cardigans or light zip hoodies depending on weather and level of dress. But my problem is that I can't find a decent t-shirt, so I've been experimenting with other types of clothes and getting frustrated. Now I'm spending my efforts on just finding a t-shirt brand that actually fits. I think it will be more worth my time. My decade + old shirts are looking pretty worn, but unfortunately clothes are just not made to fit like they were back then. The search is on

    • @vazq_Fernanda
      @vazq_Fernanda  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @JessicaPandino
      @JessicaPandino 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@vazq_Fernanda My favorite older ones are American Eagle and Old Navy. I bought them in my late high school/early college days (late 00's before the oversized trend). But ever since oversized became "in", I haven't been able to find anything that flatters my shape! I am also trying to move toward more slow fashion brands. I just received my shirt from The Classic T-Shirt Company. The stitching is great, the fabric is beautiful, and the sleeves are a great length. But it's still cut straight down, which isn't ideal for my hourglass shape. I'll try the next smaller size (I already sized down 1) but I'm also looking into other brands. Fair Indigo is next on my list to try. These brands are both pricy, but I figure the price per wear from a t-shirt I love will make it worth it.

    I love picking up my outfit for the day. It's part of my daily routine. It's very meditative - I check my mood, nature's mood (the weather), my schedule, and then pick my statement piece and build my outfit around it. I love my wardrobe, it isn't minimalist but it's curated, and there is nothing more important than feeling comfotable and confident the rest of the day. I gladly spend 10-20 minutes on that. Furthermore, I hate the word 'uniform'. All the associations it envokes are negative.

    Influencers and bloggers keep saying, when they give their advice over what kind of pieces you should use to create a capsule wardrobe, that you should choose different styles to add variety to your modules. For example, if you need to add four tops, they all say you need to pick four different cuts/styles, otherwise you will end with wearing basically the same style over and over again. But usually, they say it as if it is a bad thing, explaining that probably you will get wardrobe boredom very easily.
    At the beginning it seemed reasonable to me, and so i tried to diversify my items; but i must admit that it was not a success to me. I want very simple tshirts for my tops, but not button-downs for example. I never reach for other options, apparently i am perfectly fine with a very clean cut boat neck or round neck tshirt, the same one just in different colours. I was wondering if that might be considered a lack of fantasy, but as a matter of fact, this simply is my uniform. And you know what? If that makes me feel alright, that is all that matters 😁😁😁
    As always, thank you for opening my eyes and giving me food for thoughts. You are a precious person❤️

      @vazq_Fernanda  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have to say, I do agree with that advice - but as with all advice, you have to know what works for you and what wouldn't. I do need variety in my wardrobe, otherwise I get a bit bored, but it does help to understand what makes you comfortable. I have two personal uniforms, and they change with the season, so that helps mitigate wardrobe boredom.
