  • Hey, mark here and welcome to another CL500 Vlog for October & November 2019.
In this "episode" I talk about the importance of having a good mechanic as well as, a couple of ongoing suspension issues, but not ABC related.
Hope I didn't ramble on too much and as always, if you enjoyed, please consider Subbing and leave comments below!
    Thanks for watching!

Great video pal. You seem like you take good care of that CL. You are the type of guy a newcomer to the CL class would want to buy from.

Hey man! Thanks for the comment... I try to look after the car, yep.... there are still a few items to sort but it's an ongoing thing and doesn't really diminish the day to day driving experience or make it less fun. The reality is, if I wanted a newish car of this quality, sure I'd have less maintenance to sort but then I'd be paying 25 - 40k.... so you have to decide what you like! Plus, I don't really like too many of the modern cars, with the odd exception!
There are quite a few decent CL owners that really look after their cars in the Facebook Group.
Anyway, cheers for the comment! All the best!

Does anyone have a link to replacing lower control arms on an 05 CL500? NOT the "thrust" arms, (already replaced those and the lower ball joints), the lower control arms. Appreciate the help!!

Well looks like you're doing better with the servicing cost than l am.Spent 3k(NZ) in the last year.Rad,B Service, lhf suspension pipe union leak.Worked on twice for the leak. Now l'm staring down the barrell for an ESP,ABC,BAS,ABC again fault.Nice car to drive but getting disillusioned with the costs.Feels like a Runaway freight train.l thought MB were better than that.

Sometimes the fault light comes up for the ABS / ESP etc on mine but goes off again. Connectors get crappy sometimes... and yeah, I have given up trying to keep mine "perfect" and just tackle stuff as it comes up... it is what it is... a fun old but flawed Benz...

I enjoy the updates. Love the CL’s and would like to own one of the newer 4.7 versions. Would you consider changing for the newer model?

Hey!! Thanks for the comment! Tbh, I like the idea of the newer car (216) but I find the shape a little bland and the interior doesn't have the vibe of the 215 for me.
It's a lovely car and I did look at a CL63 but despite it's "superiority" I actually enjoy the 215 more. It feels like there's less expectation of it but it still delivers, if you know what I mean?

Hi mate I’ve just bought a CL500, I live in 🇬🇧 I’m glad I found you! I’ve subscribed as I’m having all the problems you’ve mentioned, I’m 2 months old in ownership and I love it but am scared to death of it, I worry about it and can’t enjoy it. The car drives fine, but each corner I turn it’s like please don’t cost me £1000. I look forward to your vids!

Eat Maintenance costs for these fine cars can be horrendous sometimes and the truth is I bought my CL500 knowing full well I can’t afford to run it. But it was my dream and I was going to have it no matter what. So I only cover about 5000 miles an year and use it only on weekends. I put away a bit of money every month for future unexpected bills. After a year of ownership the costs have been very low. £250 for a failed window. £180 for a service with Merc specialist. Did you get a warranty when you bought yours? My experience of warranty with this car is that warranty is useless because most warranties have a list of approved dealers. But when your entertainment system or your window is having issues as I did with mine you will be passed from one dealer to another as they all don’t have a clue about these cars. What I needed was a mercedes specialist and there were no merc specialists listed by the warranty provider. Anyway congratulations and enjoy your Cl500👍🏾

Hey! So, yeah I totally get what you're saying. Tbh, the mechanicals are rock solid. Benz know their engineering and this V8 and drive train are very tough. As far as ABC system goes, pumps are not expensive and if you ever have that problem it shouldn't cost more than 500 if that.
As for chassis stuff , well in my case, it's a combo of age and wear and tear. Electronics stuff can be frustrating and I have a few systems not working but, tbh, its an old car and while it's not perfect, at the end of the day, it's not really life changing... so just enjoy it. Hammer it about because they fucking love to be driven properly 😉. Enjoy it matey!! Thanks for your message btw.

@@tsepoza A good mechanic - and someone who knows these cars is a good ally. There are a few specialists but in the UK at least, your looking at 80 pounds an hour I guess, in general? Parts off ebay are fine and also, there is a UK company that sell spares very reasonably priced. www.onlineautomotive.co.uk
I know my car pretty well, so quite often, I'm telling my local garage what to do and what to look for LOL.

@@rikkyash2353 save up £120 and get an independent specialist to do a health check on the car. Tell them you plan to get the niggles ironed out slowly and not all at once. They can also tell you how much each job will cost. You can then determine which ones bother you enough to get fixed. Join the UK Mercedes-Benz forums, they are a friendly bunch and have loads of helpful advice. Good luck with the car. The CL500 is a true classic and a proper Merc.
