Thanks for this video about your lovely new car. I am going outside in a few minutes to check the plugs in the truck of my 2000 CL500 to make sure that if there are little holes in them they are clear enough to allow any water that might get in to escape. Been subscribed for a while ans my new project 03 CL 500 has the same issue. I’m all the way from Germany! My trunk is wet and the rear lights corroded. My trunk will close with a gap on the left side I’ll think of a fix for the hinges. Sadly my radio is gone but my Bose sound system still works. I have a canbus short according to diagnostics and am trying to find out where it is. Right now my mirrors don’t work properly, rear windows won’t move an inch and my car has the occasional weird moment which is all due to the Canbus in my eyes and forums seem to agree. Right now my culprint is the rear SAM and or the computers behind the offset rear panel. My previous prefacelift had a pristine interior and no electrical gremlins but ABC issues. My new one is mechanically sound but has the electric problems. No such thing as a cheap perfect C215 😂
Man…….well first off, thank you for subscribing! The CL is such a beautiful, awesome car. But it requires some time, patience and diligence in order to make it perfect. Keep doing your research and I suggest getting a Mercedes grade scanner. Like a iCarsoft MBII. Something of that nature. It’s like…….being in a relationship with a beautiful top model girlfriend. 😂😂
@@goldelementautoworks oh yes I agree. I did a complete wishbone and wheel bearing job on my old one and did some tricks with the ABC to at least keep it running. There’s some stuff called „LecWec“ here in Germany which is an additive and can essentially cause rubber seals to expand again. Used that and I’d like to believe it helped with keeping the ABC running. At the end it sank down immediately after turning the engine off and after like 3 hours of standing it was completely bottomed out. I have an iCarSoft but want to make the step up to a C4 SD soon. Couldn’t agree more with the top model girlfriend analogy brother!! Yes everyone is jealous if ur seen with her, yes everyone will look but god only the ones in the know will know how much she probably pains and nags you 😂😂 got a 55 Kompressor like you too that thankfully is in a pristine condition and is currently waiting for the end of winter. @@lethalhype1931 That’s usually related to a module that operates just those rear windows. It can go bad or get wet. Before that….make sure to check the feed wires. The door jam wires for breakage. @@goldelementautoworks appreciate the fast reply man. Doors get sound, controls work and lights are on on my switches. Another great video. Can't wait to see what you do with the new wheels. I'm in the UK and Gorilla Glues head office in the UK is around the corner from my home - it's brilliant stuff.
Great video man ! very useful content ! Im contemplating grabbing one of these projects, but Im weary, Im pretty hands on, but my experience is with simpler W124, 201, 202 models; quick question do a lot of parts fit from the W220 ? far easier to source those
Thank you! The W215 CL500 has a lot of shared suspension components. Same exterior mirrors. Same sun visors…..😂 Same engine and tranny components. Different modules and mechanical assemblies.
Regarding rust, I have never had any issues. I’ve seen some with the oxidized roofs near the sunroof. But never have I seen rust. These cars hold up better than the pre-facelift S-class of the same years, which were known to rust heavily. There are other mechanical issues of course that you have to look for and prepare for.
I left mine removed. Not likely water will accumulate unless you’re in a flood. In such a case…..it will drain out. 😂 Roaches are not a issue with me individually. But if so……put the rubber back in place. Just keep an eye out for unwanted moisture and water. Keep the plugs clean.
👍🏾I hear you. The V8 does have an awesome sound. Every since my first car at 17…..I always give special attention to the audio. I can’t help it. It’s essential for me. 😂
@@goldelementautoworks Audio was a big thing when I was young, you had no money for petrol, but always a good sound system, but now I just don't want anything too loud, getting old, I~ still kind of childish when it comes to cars though!! As we are I may as well tell you why I am here: I have a CL500 it was error free, and it just threw the red ABC code in my face yesterday on the highway while I was caning it ever so slightly, so now I am trying to figure out what happened. It was doing fine then suddenly I had ESO, BAS and ABC throwing errors ay once and the car lowered itself, ABC module is responsive and ok, but: I have 2 height sensors on opposite corners showing live data at less than 1v, and the two corresponding "plungers" apparently stuck? ABC is reading fine as said above, but wont do any actuation test. BAS AND ESP I cannot even access the CPU. It also threw a low current error, it must be said that in the morning I had to jumpstart the car and "motor electronics" cannot be accessed now. If you have any idea, feel free to share!
@@goldelementautoworks Well I just bought the car and apparently it was driven where I picked it up, however not long, so when I went to start it the current owner had to jump start it, it made me cringe, but it then started, I ran a quick diag, engine on after waiting a while and gave me a couple of fantom errors, but no motor electronics, a couple of seat adjustments , steering wheel heater, parking assistance, an undervoltage, that we just had, but ABC was fine, I can find the logs and send them to you, I have an xtool D8. Point being that the car was raised, no fault on the dash, driving fine, going up and down when I tested it, went to put air in the tires, water in the screen wash and everything was fine, then bought the car, for a steal that is, so I sort of suspected something was going to happen, but not so fast, on my way back it started throwing a couple of errors the the red ABC, I was doing 80mph, or something, when I say caning it was just motorway speed, as it needs a full service, and apparently now, something more too. Not apparently I can't access BAS, nor ESP systems, height sensors 2 undevoltage and I can access ABC but wont actuate anything, and won't rodeo. PS I didn't do anything with the tool a part form the initial diag, until I go home, put a fresh battery and hooked it up on my Deutronic before doing any actuation test, but nothing moves now, car is sitting, but drivable, but rubs when you steer too much. I drove it home like that for 300 miles at 50-55.
Quick question, the rear brake light stays on even after the car is off. It's not the side marker light that can be turned on when on the side of the highway like it's required in Europe. It eventually turns off like hours later. And it's not wet either.
@@goldelementautoworks it is not draining my battery, it used to but I changed the battery and it hasn't died since, now it stays on but eventually turns off, I haven't timed it but has to be in the hours later. Yes I've checked for corrosion, I've removed the whole taillight assembly and everything within it. And nothing has changed.
@@bajaboy27 At this point…..you have to narrow down what module controls that circuit. Could there be corrosion or a fault with such module? Have you googled ‘brake light stays on Mercedes’ ? It doesn’t have to be that exact model.
Have all your CL's been leaked through that same spot?. It would be a nasty surprise if you bought one thinking it was rust free or at least not a bathtub for who knows how long. Never get the rust cleaned out after that. Especially with the thin sheet metal used. I feel for you and your baby.

@@lisalisa8426 I am so sorry to hear that your transmission is giving you issues. You’re correct, this is a very rare event. Those transmissions rarely EVER need replacement. It’s always the conductor plate that needs replaced. So before you spend that much money, what specifically is the car doing or not doing, to indicate it’s the transmission? My TikTok is goldelementautoworks
I removed it. It’s only the Black Series body kit. That’s why I added it at some point. Watch my newer videos and you will see the reason I added it and later removed it. They did not make a black series CL anyways. Thank you for the observation.
The “C” means coupe chassis. Often Mercedes will designate the coupe version of the S-class with the “C” rather than the standard “W” used for sedans. Not always though. Some articles and enthusiasts use their own discretion.

@@jimmyj4395 Likely your conductor plate. You need a detailed MB scanner to read the specific codes and see which sensors are not reading. If it’s an active code or stored code. It could be a failing/failed sensors. Or a bad plug/connection due to oil seepage.
Yes. Passenger side footwell, under glove box. Pull carpet back. 2-3 black plastic 10mm nuts. Remove the metal panel and styrofoam. You’ll see a red connection. That’s positive. Use jumper cables or jump box. Ground your black cable to anything grounded/metal. That supplies power to the car to access trunk.
Hello are you doing today I would love to have my radio updated I will buy all the parts I need for my radio I live in Cleveland and I don’t mind coming down so please let me know thank you I don’t mind paying for services
@@tungstenmanagement6107 Unfortunately, there is no kit for the 99-02. You have to modify it. Cut it. Carefully. And then make a bracket to hold the radio. You can bend and use some of the original radio bracket. I did that on my yellow 2002 CL500.
Ok.......let’s talk about it. The plugs serve a purpose. They’re intent is to release any moisture or water that enters the trunk. Some are solid. Access points to release water. Some of them have a weep hole or small hole that allows such intent to take place when necessary. The problem is....when large enough debris, dirt etc naturally build up inside of a 17+ year old trunk...and seals are compromised allowing excessive water into the trunk, the weep hole clogs easily and will lead to disastrous consequences to your expensive electronics. Such as in my case. It is more advantageous to increase the size of the hole either by increasing the diameter of the hole in the rubber.....or eliminating it all together. I do not see the problem with having open vent hole in the trunk unless the car is submerged in water or snow. In those instances.....your trunk is least of your worries. If water ever enters your trunk.....you want it eliminated as soon as possible.
Ok, what about riding in rain? From what I understand, those are made to keep water from coming into the trunk area and designed to release any water that may come in.
@@marcusadams02 Correct. This is a personal opinion, but I see it more advantageous to remove water inside quickly than to prevent the entry from underneath. it much if any will build from underneath in comparison to what leaks down from above. Just my opinion. It proved true in my CL55. I hope so with this one as well.
@@goldelementautoworks I can dig it. But, if you ever had to ride in high water or hit any puddles, water will come in without those plugs. They come from the factory like that for a reason. Just like you have the ventilation panels for a reason. Nothing kicks up water more than tires. Ride in reverse and see how much water you pull in your truck area without those rubber grommets

Would you keep the oem pump and run a loop line or replace with another s class pump and bracket to do away with more abc components. Also so that you can use a cheaper power steering fluid
What are other areas to be concerned with or keep a close eye.
Would it be wise to buy a cheap cl500 for a parts car?
Wish you all the best and happy wrenching! Casmir
@@goldelementautoworks checked today it was my Navigation computer... Completely rusted and ocne removed voila no more can bus errors in diagnostics. Thankfully my Bose Amp right next to it still works however the power windows on the rear still dont work... have you ever had this problem that both sides dont move not even when opening / closing the doors?
@@lethalhype1931 That’s usually related to a module that operates just those rear windows. It can go bad or get wet. Before that….make sure to check the feed wires. The door jam wires for breakage. I can’t remember where the module is located. Maybe right rear behind carpet in trunk? Gotta Google that one.
@@goldelementautoworks appreciate the fast reply man. Doors get sound, controls work and lights are on on my switches. They won’t open from the rear passenger switches either so I believe it’s my module. Think it’s above the rear SAM or even behind the side panel but I’ll figure it out. Appreciate everything u do brother and I wish u a good weekend from Germany
I believe if you had a puddle the water was shut up and had all the electrical wires and cause it to go out early

Sir I checked my trunk all the drains are unplugged there’s no water but the passenger floor is flooded and the rear passenger floor also is there any plugs or water drainage I could look out for under the hood in the front of the car?

Great video man ! very useful content ! Im contemplating grabbing one of these projects, but Im weary, Im pretty hands on, but my experience is with simpler W124, 201, 202 models; quick question do a lot of parts fit from the W220 ? far easier to source those
Thank you! The W215 CL500 has a lot of shared suspension components. Same exterior mirrors. Same sun visors…..😂 Same engine and tranny components. Different modules and mechanical assemblies.
How are these with rust? Anything in particular to be aware of?
Regarding rust, I have never had any issues. I’ve seen some with the oxidized roofs near the sunroof. But never have I seen rust. These cars hold up better than the pre-facelift S-class of the same years, which were known to rust heavily. There are other mechanical issues of course that you have to look for and prepare for.
you leave the rubber drainplugs open without them now?can not come water inside now from there or cockroaches?
I left mine removed. Not likely water will accumulate unless you’re in a flood. In such a case…..it will drain out. 😂 Roaches are not a issue with me individually. But if so……put the rubber back in place. Just keep an eye out for unwanted moisture and water. Keep the plugs clean.
I would like to buy a CL
Can you help me fix it ?
TBH with you sound system is the last thing I care about in the car, as I like to hear the V8 purr into action.

As we are I may as well tell you why I am here: I have a CL500 it was error free, and it just threw the red ABC code in my face yesterday on the highway while I was caning it ever so slightly, so now I am trying to figure out what happened.
It was doing fine then suddenly I had ESO, BAS and ABC throwing errors ay once and the car lowered itself, ABC module is responsive and ok, but:
I have 2 height sensors on opposite corners showing live data at less than 1v, and the two corresponding "plungers" apparently stuck?
ABC is reading fine as said above, but wont do any actuation test.
BAS AND ESP I cannot even access the CPU.
It also threw a low current error, it must be said that in the morning I had to jumpstart the car and "motor electronics" cannot be accessed now.
If you have any idea, feel free to share!
@@thewizardsofthezoo5376 Start backwards……why is the battery dying?
Is it draining your battery? Have you checked for corrosion where the bulbs install?
@@goldelementautoworks it is not draining my battery, it used to but I changed the battery and it hasn't died since, now it stays on but eventually turns off, I haven't timed it but has to be in the hours later. Yes I've checked for corrosion, I've removed the whole taillight assembly and everything within it. And nothing has changed.
@@bajaboy27 At this point…..you have to narrow down what module controls that circuit. Could there be corrosion or a fault with such module? Have you googled ‘brake light stays on Mercedes’ ? It doesn’t have to be that exact model.
@@goldelementautoworks imma look into it. But yes I'm sure I have looked into it before. Even asked others in the Mercedes Benz group I'm in on FB.

whats the diffrence between w215 and c215 ?

Tell me why the plugs are not supposed to be in?
