    Just started getting back feed in my speakers this week with my radio not working and cd changer not being recognized and about two weeks prior to that vacuumed water from inside the trunk on the left side. Glad to learn that there is a drain plug. I will tear apart the trunk to see if water is in there again. Thanks for the video

    As an R230 owner the words "Rubber Seals" send shivers down my spine... Any seals that I can get to I clean with window cleaner and lubricate with the Mercedes compound oil at least once a year to prevent leaks in the boot or in the cabin. Great video man, inspiring my next purchase!

    Just picked up an 02CL500 Saturday (also cheepcheep -- previous owner got tired of dealing with it), wouldn't start when I first looked at it, was slammed. Got it started and one side pumped up so the pump was working. When I went to get it both sides pumped up, so all is working. ESP and ABS issues i need to dig into, causing limp mode, so that is annoying. Also drains the battery quickly, not sure what is going on with that. Thanks for the great vid! Will have to check out your others. Also getting an 09S550 on the road after a deer hit took out the front, been scrounging parts to fix all that, almost ready to go. Fun times Benzing!

    Thanks for this video about your lovely new car. I am going outside in a few minutes to check the plugs in the truck of my 2000 CL500 to make sure that if there are little holes in them they are clear enough to allow any water that might get in to escape. I hope that the wheel wells are not already full up like yours! you should also check the hole at the bottom of the cabin air intake thing under the hood to make sure that if any water gets in there in can get out because if that one fills up you can fry countless modules in the cabin of your CL's. You have to stick your hand in all the way down to feel for it. I would send a picture if I knew how ... that was such a bad problem back in the day that they changed its design after a few years of production!

    • @goldelementautoworks
      @goldelementautoworks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you bro! You’re absolutely correct regarding the cabin drain. As a matter of fact.....this car came with a lot of paperwork including a recall or bulletin letter from Mercedes stating that known problem and their willingness to repair any damage caused by it for free. I never knew Mercedes-Benz actually acknowledged that problem publicly.

    The CL500 is good enough, in the long run and ofr an old car, I much prefer a simple aspirated engine as you have much less potential failings than on high pressure kompressor or turbocharged ones.
    I am now in the dilemmatic position of repairing red faulty ABC go to shop message, which is caused by ESP/ABS ot put it on coils, any experience on what makes it drive as close to stock bar the ABC dynamics?

    Looks so good down low like that. I like these years in all models, but the quality of mercedes as a whole was not as good because Chrysler was involved. Body corrosion issues because of contaminants in the paint and body. My ML320 is really nice but for $80K USD starting they couldnt even get door gapping right or level to the next panel. The CL is another animal, its the bait to entice the lower cost mercedes to sell.

    • @goldelementautoworks

      I agree. The early 2000’s were some of the best years for certain models. The lower priced ones were not the best quality. The S and CL were undoubtedly some of the best, most advanced and well built models. 2003 and up were the best paint and rust free years.

    Just bought a 2005 cl55 with 200000km on it. Has a few issues. The dealer ship was persistent on doing all repairs needed. The abc on the car failed and passenger side stays low. No sign of leak at the mb dealership. They want to coil over swap the car for me. I sent them info on the tandom pump loop line and the swap out to a s430 pump. Hopefully they just do everything correctly. Ill likely add the s class lower control arms and sway bars after but just nervous. Is it still okay to reach out to you with some guidance. This 05 is my newest car yet lol.
    My other cars are a
    1990 z32,

    66 mustang
    67 mustang
    1939 plymouth coupe
    1989 fleetwood hearse
    1983 buick regal
    So getting back into it with mercedes will be a learning curve again.
    Where do you stand on coilover conversions?
    And what is all included with doing a swap as far as other parts that would need attention such as power steering,importance of sway bars if they are needed right away. And bypassing warnings for abc afterwards.
    Would you keep the oem pump and run a loop line or replace with another s class pump and bracket to do away with more abc components. Also so that you can use a cheaper power steering fluid
    What are other areas to be concerned with or keep a close eye.
    Would it be wise to buy a cheap cl500 for a parts car?

    Been subscribed for a while ans my new project 03 CL 500 has the same issue. I’m all the way from Germany! My trunk is wet and the rear lights corroded. My trunk will close with a gap on the left side I’ll think of a fix for the hinges. Sadly my radio is gone but my Bose sound system still works. I have a canbus short according to diagnostics and am trying to find out where it is. Right now my mirrors don’t work properly, rear windows won’t move an inch and my car has the occasional weird moment which is all due to the Canbus in my eyes and forums seem to agree. Right now my culprint is the rear SAM and or the computers behind the offset rear panel. My previous prefacelift had a pristine interior and no electrical gremlins but ABC issues. My new one is mechanically sound but has the electric problems. No such thing as a cheap perfect C215 😂

      @@goldelementautoworks oh yes I agree. I did a complete wishbone and wheel bearing job on my old one and did some tricks with the ABC to at least keep it running. There’s some stuff called „LecWec“ here in Germany which is an additive and can essentially cause rubber seals to expand again. Used that and I’d like to believe it helped with keeping the ABC running. At the end it sank down immediately after turning the engine off and after like 3 hours of standing it was completely bottomed out. I have an iCarSoft but want to make the step up to a C4 SD soon. Couldn’t agree more with the top model girlfriend analogy brother!! Tell me why the plugs are not supposed to be in?

    • @goldelementautoworks
      @goldelementautoworks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ok.......let’s talk about it. The plugs serve a purpose. They’re intent is to release any moisture or water that enters the trunk. Some are solid. Access points to release water. Some of them have a weep hole or small hole that allows such intent to take place when necessary. The problem is....when large enough debris, dirt etc naturally build up inside of a 17+ year old trunk...and seals are compromised allowing excessive water into the trunk, the weep hole clogs easily and will lead to disastrous consequences to your expensive electronics. Such as in my case. It is more advantageous to increase the size of the hole either by increasing the diameter of the hole in the rubber.....or eliminating it all together. I do not see the problem with having open vent hole in the trunk unless the car is submerged in water or snow. In those instances.....your trunk is least of your worries. If water ever enters your trunk.....you want it eliminated as soon as possible.

    • @marcusadams02
      @marcusadams02 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ok, what about riding in rain? From what I understand, those are made to keep water from coming into the trunk area and designed to release any water that may come in.

    • @goldelementautoworks
      @goldelementautoworks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@marcusadams02 Correct. This is a personal opinion, but I see it more advantageous to remove water inside quickly than to prevent the entry from underneath. it much if any will build from underneath in comparison to what leaks down from above. Just my opinion. It proved true in my CL55. I hope so with this one as well.

    • @marcusadams02
      @marcusadams02 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@goldelementautoworks I can dig it. But, if you ever had to ride in high water or hit any puddles, water will come in without those plugs. They come from the factory like that for a reason. Just like you have the ventilation panels for a reason. Nothing kicks up water more than tires. Ride in reverse and see how much water you pull in your truck area without those rubber grommets
