This 1000 mile route usually takes 6-7 days to complete and our guys must complete it within 5 days for 4 of them to make it to a wedding (and still be in 1 piece). 1 of them is the officiator and one is the father of the bride! Usually no one gets a kitchen pass for such a time sensitive and risky endeavor. On top of that they start out the journey traveling 500 miles from Billings, MT just to get to the start of the BDR in Baggs, WY after trailering their bikes through the night from Fargo ND! See if these guys make it in time and peril awaits them (hint someone gets hurt bad)!

The Wyoming Backcountry Discovery Route (#WYBDR) is the newest addition to the collection of off-road adventure routes and the 11th in the series. The WYBDR is the most remote discovery route in the least populated state. Wyoming's vast public lands made it an ideal spot for the new route. The 950-mile BDR passes through five mountain ranges with elevations approaching 11,000 feet! The WYBDR can be ridden in either direction from South to North or from North to South.
Riders will experience amazing views and are likely to encounter a variety of wildlife along the route. The route is made up of public dirt roads and primitive double-track lanes. According to the BDR website, "This is the most remote BDR, so plan ahead and be prepared to have a true backcountry adventure." The route usually takes 6-7 days to complete.
Beginning in Baggs, WY, the route traces the mountain ranges to the east through the Sierra Madre and Medicine Bow Ranges, crosses west to the Wind River Range, then goes back east and north through the Bighorn Mountains, eventually ending at a remote Wyoming-Montana border. Almost every section includes some moderately technical riding, as the remote two-track flows through regions of vast high-desert, short-grass prairies, and alpine climates.

Virtually all of the videos I have seen regarding the WYBDR illustrate how challenging this route is, especially when wet/muddy. Well done!
despite video not doing it justice enough. Looks smooth and grand, but in reality sudden peril can be lurking anywhere from a sudden washout or rock or... just miscalculation. And the hard part is capturing it on video; hard to have it on all the time. thanks for commenting!
Trying to travel faster as a group can be a chore. The route is 880 miles by the way. I really enjoyed it, though I felt the Nevada BDR was far more remote.
This year is the Oregon BDR as our next one ;)
Wow, that's quite an adventure. I have some friends who went to Colorado last year with their ATVs and rode the Continental Divide. I'm anxious to see the rest of your journey. Red E rocks...!

We did the WYBDR in 5 days and didn't really feel like we pushed hard at all. The longest day was Beaver rim to Atlantic City. I felt it was pretty relentless. The other long days were mostly easy so a long day, but not hard riding. Especially the day coming into Ten Sleep. We did quite a few miles, but most were 80 mph+ roads.
good feedback. Did you choose any expert routes along the way? that definitely makes a difference
agreed. section 4 was brutal. never ending sand and ruts. my big GS1200 was a lot to handle on that.
We did this BDR this summer. (Late July) Had an absolute blast!

I was waiting to see the Carnage of coming down the sandtrap in the Shirley mountains! Disappointment, one bike going down through without incident. I'll bet the others weren't quite as lucky. Section 4, Beaver Rim, is no joke-- I'm surprised you guys decided to take that on in the same day that you exerted yourself going through the Shirley's.
They ran hard for sure. As you can imagine not every spill is captured on camera. Wait til the next episode drops... Bigger spills and some scary moments.

The two riders Chuck and Stewart who raced previously in their careers had 0 wipeouts. Skill and Experience and great bikes. The rest of us just take a few more spills but keep getting back up.
I'll stick with ATV or Side by Side. 🤔
Not trying to demean but I think those large bikes are to big for your experience level. I think you would of had a better time on smaller bikes, plus why have such large bikes and be in second of third gear tops 90% of the time? I wouldn't take my Tiger on something like that, but I sure would enjoy taking my Verys 300.
That is an interesting point. The BDR is a lot of road riding and unless you go on the technical route like we did then the bigger bikes are fine. Fine on the technical too for advanced riders. 2 pro riders were on that ride and never spilled once. 1 guy is experienced but had a foot injury and is shorter so that is why he spilled when he was in a dip. The other three ride but not as much and some have borrowed bikes. Making it all work with what we got ;)
Please do not run loud exhaust on these trails. It is not necessary and makes us unwanted. One of those bikes has a modified exhaust
Sure, not sure which, maybe the Ducati? I don't think anyone changed their exhaust after they bought their bikes.
